Then tried the steak. It was cooked right, medium rare. From there it went quickly down hill. This was the toughest steak I have ever remember eating. My fork would barely penetrate it. Cutting it moved the meat from side to side. It was riddled with gristle and sinew. I definitely will never order that if I come back. The music was very loud. Holding a conversation would be difficult at best. Leaving with a headache. Waitress's are service challenged. Not once did the waitress stop to ask how my food was. The guy who bussed the plates did not ask either even though he could see alot of steak left on the plate. Tells me they know they sell food that gets complaints if they ask. It was also a job to get a drink. Guy next to me was whistling at the waitress to get service. I worked after a half dozen attempts. She was not busy either instead she was listening to the music and shuffling around. Not a place I would bring my kids. Wouldn't recommend to a friend either. Got to be better places.

We arrived about 7:30pm on a Friday evening. Parking was easy in a nearby lot and we could hear what sounded like live music as we walked toward the building. Sure enough, lucky for us, a live duo was playing on a small stage in front of the outdoor seating. "Sweet Talkin' Johnny" began singing songs from Tom Petty and we knew we wanted to sit and listen for a while. The interior is decorated with fun pictures throughout, which we loved. The portrait of Kramer from Seinfeld was perfect. My wife also reported the women's room has the famous picture of a naked Burt Reynolds from the Cosmopolitan magazine circa 1972. The men's room has the vintage classic poster of Farrah Fawcett and artwork of a dude on a toilet. We did not ask much about their variety of beers after finding the "Big Ass Umbrella" IPA, but we believe they have 16 taps, which, we think include both a variety of their own beers as well as other hard beverages such as seltzers and ciders. They also have a cooler full of assorted 4/6 packs which can be purchased. Tonight we were fortunate enough they had a food truck/trailer serving Nashville Hot Chicken in addition to the live music. Overall, an awesome experience!

We so enjoyed the grilled shrimp tacos and my husband loves frog legs and was happy to see they were the special Wednesday night. Great food and service. Two different servers checked on us and made sure our tea glasses were full. They are happy and made small talk and you could just tell they enjoyed working at Southern Roots. if i could rate them 0 stars i would. hell, i'd rate them negative stars. the managers are assholes, especially the managers daughter. they exploit their underage workers, are rude to their staff AND customers, and overall is a terrible company. disgusting & unethical. won't be returning - think twice about supporting this business. read more

However, my uncle's fish was absolutely excellent and the fries were good too. My husband got the monkey burger and he was very happy. My tater tots were very, very tasty. The beer we ordered was really good as well and the price could absolutely not be beat. I'm not sure if they were on special but five dollars a pint for those beers is unheard of, at least in Durham. I did not expect to find it so cheap in Charlotte. We had a wonderful experience here and would absolutely return!
