We've had the pizza and salad combo twice, and it was really pretty good. The price for the combo can't be beat ($12)

Maddie's is located on a side street off the main drag of old town Marblehead. The restaurant is located upstairs and the bar is located downstairs. We began our meal with the fried calamari. Cook fresh and served hot. The marinara was ok. Our entrees were the Pasta Fra Diavolo and the baked haddock. The pasta came out with a tasty sauce and a generous amount of seafood. My wife enjoyed her haddock which was something she doesn't usually order. The portion was generous and the veggies on the side were fresh and not canned. The service was very good and friendly. The prices were very reasonable considering the area. There is street parking on the main street but not the street it is located on.

Use the outside stairs to joueny up stairs. They don't take reservations and on a Thursday night it was full so plan accordingly. They have a full offering of drinks and I went draft beer, Alagash, a wheat beer from Maine. A good choice to go with a heavy meal. At the recommendation of our local host, I went for the Pan Seared Haddock. This comes with lobster meat in a white sauce served over potatoes and cooked spinach. So tasty, the seafood was tender and delicious, the sauce not overwhelming the flavors. Our server, Casey, was top notch and gave the right amount of earnest attention. When he wished us a good evening, I think he truly meant it. Husband had the seafood platter mixed and I tried one of the shrimp which was excellent. Great spot, though it is dimly lit and noisy(just know before you go type thing). Didn't hamper our enjoyment of a fun evening at all!

The steak fries were hot, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Burger was juicy with double patties and good topping ratios on a decent bun that held together. We just went in and dropped a worthy $80 on lunch - 2 tequila mules, a special of buffalo bites (if u are lucky and these are on special again - order them!). Chicken kabob sandwich - juicy, perfectly grilled chicken and my husband got the mouth-watering pastrami sandwich. We packed half of it up for dinner tonight. I only gave 4 stars due to the lousy, noisy, raunchy bar flies. They couldn't care less about other customers as they were shouting and cussing away. Having a conversation with my husband was impossible. The bartender, who was 5 stars in her service to us, attempted to remind these people to stop yelling. I understand being a local, as I am one, and it makes me want to keep my favorite places in business. However, disruptive and rude bar flies should be shut out ff earlier and asked to leave or at the very least pipe down. Ultimately, I highly recommend anyone local or out of town to try The Tin Whistle for the food and service. Maybe try one of the tall comfy wooden booths would make for a better atmosphere.

My partner and I made a reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday night, needing to attend a concert nearby at 8:00PM. Our server, Joey M., came right to the table and was apprised of our need to leave by 7:45. A&B Burgers was packed that night, so this was a good test of service. Joey brought our drinks within 10 minutes of taking the order and then took our burger order. It took about 25 minutes to arrive, and with a leisurely meal, we were able to depart at exactly 7:45 as requested. The burgers are definitely as good as I remembered when they first opened. My partner had the Nick's BBQ burger and I had the Black and Blue burger. Both were excellent: the Carolina BBQ sauce was tart rather than sweet, and the black and blue with onion crisps and bacon had just the right amount of blue cheese flavoring. The "hand-held" burger was just right for eating, neither overstuffed nor just too thin. I had the sea salt fries (good but not distinguished) and my partner had the side salad with a vinaigrette that sadly for her was balsamic and thick, although I loved it. We passed on dessert (not enough time). We each had the 9oz Black Stallion Cabernet ($21/glass) and it was good but overpriced for the quality. We walked out feeling that we had enjoyed a good pre-theatre meal for $100 including a tip. We were not able to stay for the music, but the one song we heard was promising had we stayed. We would return with reasonable expectations.

The homemade chips came with a French onion dip that was inedible, and the potatoes were initially undercooked. We sent them back, only to have them returned overcooked and hard, although at least crispy. The burger had a very gamey taste and the pasta was bland and tasteless, with the pasta itself overcooked. The only thing that was remotely enjoyable was the crème brûlée--but even that was an incredibly tiny portion, barely 1/4 inch thick, and it didn't even have the crispy caramelized top you'd expect. For a Restaurant Week menu, this was a huge disappointment. Terrible food, poor execution, and absolutely not an experience I would recommend. This is unfortunate because we used to love this restaurant.

I suppose if you're not a local in a tourist town, you shouldn't expect customer service, at least here anyway. After a not-quite-awkward amount of silent time watching the bartenders back, we were addressed. Look the long and short was the service struck me wrong from moment one and I no longer felt welcome when sitting down to eat. Beer selection was decent. Sip o sunshine makes for an excellent sauce. The food was excellent. Salty, delicious roast beef on a perfectly toasted roll, Rueben set up perfect with melting cheese catching the light from the high placed windows. Decor is was cool. Old world nautical theme throughout with rich dark wood tables and chairs. Maybe she had a bad day, maybe I did, and this was what was perceived. Wanted a welcoming lunch place to pop in when I'm in the next town and didn't find it today. The sad part is though the food was good, I don't think the wife and I will give it another go. Shame.

The restaurant is deceptively large with a pleasant atmosphere. Service was prompt even on a busy Saturday evening and our server was enthusiastic about the food. I also tried the Brussels sprouts, which were terrific. I snuck bites of my husbands truffle fries, which were also super good. My husband ate every bite of his sea salt burger, which he reported was very good between bites. Also worth noting that the burger patties were gigantic. We finished up dinner with an Irish coffee.
