Popped in while walking the City of Salem on a hot July afternoon. Friendly vibe with seating area and a bar. Everyone was cool and helpful with the menu. We had the Clam Chowder- Delicious, one of the best that we have had on our visit to Massachusetts. We also did burgers with fries, all of it was delicious. Mac and cheese was just ehhhh, but the havarti grilled cheese was a YES. The clam chowder was cold, so I'd skip. cocktails are super unique. Definitely order the sun damage! I got the mocktail version and it was so tasty. The live music they had this night started at 9 and was super funky. You can't really have conversations during it, it's very loud, so don't go there if you're trying to have deep conversations instead of vibing to some music lol. This place was such a pleasant surprise! It was located right near our Airbnb and is also a short walk away from The House of the Seven Gables. It a small restaurant/bar but everything was beyond delicious and the service was excellent! We came here twice during our weekend stay. I swear I had one of the best cups of New England Clam Chowder I have ever had here, it was perfect. My husband also isn't a hummus fan but devoured our hummus appetizer- and I agree as the one who is actually a fan of hummus it was absolutely delicious. We also had a chance to try their burgers and WOW, every bite we took left us just wanting more and their fries were also amazing as well. Great cocktail menu and beer list, this place should absolutely be on your must try list when visiting Salem! read more

Mercy Tavern has some of the best food and drinks in Salem, hands down! Service is always friendly and attentive. A cute little gem on Derby Street, with indoor and outdoor seating. Tiny place, absolutely delicious! I don't have one bad thing to say about the place, food, or staff. The menu doesn't look particularly amazing, standard-ish pub fare (steak tips, fish&chips, mac&cheese) but they do them EXTREMELY well. The tips were tender and flavorful, the sneaky star of the entree was the salad with feta though. I'm pretty sure the feta was marinated in whatever outstanding salad dressing they use. The havarti grilled cheese with avocado, garlic aioli and fried egg...C'mon. You have to spend the extra $2 for the bacon jam, you will not regret it. I'm sure we've all seen truffle fries right? Some bullshit frozen garbage either drowned in cheap truffle oil, or "dusted" with truffle salt. Well, they don't do that crap here, however they do garlic fries. Hand cut, with whole cloves of roasted garlic all over. Not one or two cloves, like several heads worth of glorious, slow-roasted garlic. I managed to scrounge a couple spoonfuls of the kids mac&cheese from my son, almost lost a finger in the attempt and I found out why. They put just as much effort into the kids food as the adults. If you need a break from your witchy business in Salem, definitely stop in here. read more

Amazingly kind bartending staff with great, local energy. We visited on a night with an incredible, New Orleans-style band playing, and the entire vibe was so great that we stayed til closing. This was my boyfriend and I first stop on our Salem trip! Loved the cozy atmosphere, the decor of course. Tis the season for amazing apple and pumpkin drinks ! Excellent vibes, excellent drinks, excellent food! We needed a place for a quick nosh before hitting the 7 Gables museum and it was "near me" so we walked the few hundred feet over. We got a seat at the bar right away, almost the last seats in the very small venue, packed in the early afternoon of a chilly Saturday. Austin took care of us right away we ordered the clam chowder and baked Mac and cheese with bacon to split and it's a good thing because it was a massive portion of Mac and Cheese. Now I love a good New England clam chowder but I love it even more when it's chock FULL of clams and potatoes and bacon like this one was. Then came the Mac and Cheese and I don't know whose idea it was to put big slab sized chunks of onions in it but it was a masterful idea. I was dubious at first but OMG they were so good and elevated the flavor. I didn't want to eat as much as I did but I just kept going back for the onions and just one more noodle, I swear just one more! Excellent experience. The Mercy Tavern of Salem is a great "local" corner bar. Welcomed as we dropped into this cozy bar, we noticed the locals at the bar but that didn't stop great service nor and they made us feel very comfortable. A quick drink and order we ordered up a perfect 4 roses Manhattan, Buffalo Cauliflower and Fish and Chips. The Manhattan came out "perfect" albeit a little small but the price of $8.50 with a $2.00 upcharge was very very small. Out came the cauliflower warm and spicy with Buffalo, just what we wanted. This was followed by fish and chips that were crispy food on the outside, moist on the inside with delicious fries on the side. We split everything and both enjoyed it. My son treated my husband and me to dinner here this evening, and everything was great! My husband and I shared their steak tip entree with garlic French fries and a medley of fresh vegetables (summer squash, zucchini, broccoli, and Bermuda onions). The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. I also had their frozen margarita, which was yummy! And my husband had a pint of Maine Lunch. Our server was kind and efficient. Was glad to find this place while we were visiting Salem on a busy Friday. When we arrived, there was only one other party in front of us. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but being that it was October and Salem that is not bad at all. Our waitress was very friendly and nice. I ordered the ribs, but after a few minutes, she came back and told us that they were out of ribs. I was able to swap it out for the tri-tip steak, which was absolutely delicious. They even brought me some of the rib sauce on the side so I could dip my steak in, everything was delicious on my plate. Someone had the mac & cheese and said it was also very very good. Not sure what the other review writers are ordering when they go to this place, but I found the food just typical bar food, it will help stop your hunger but nothing that will make you say that was the best ever. My steak tips had way too much sauce and the wife's chowder bowl was thin and runny. The atmosphere is just as you would expect, a local tavern to be, sort of dark and playing 80's music, so I enjoyed the atmosphere more than the food. This could be a nice place to meet up with some friends and have a few beers, but if you're just looking for lunch, it is a bit of a letdown. read more

Tried Mercy Tavern on my first trip to Salem and it didn't disappoint. We chose this spot for its fun sounding drinks and interesting menu. This place did not disappoint. We waited a few minutes for a table and were seated quickly. The staff were very friendly and the place itself was very local feeling and had a nice atmosphere. We ordered drinks and a number of dishes. Drinks were excellent and unique. Food was extremely good. Garlic fries had a lot of flavor and real garlic gloves on it. I tried their clam chowder and wings which were both delicious and packed with both ingredients and flavor. My friend tried the pumpkin ravioli and they were great with so much flavor. I visited Mercy Tavern on a Thursday night after a long day of work. Immediately, the decoration and lighting struck me very positively. The space is well lit but not excessively bright, and it's clear that the owners have put a great deal of thought into the arrnagement of the establishment and the furnishing. I was seated within seconds of walking in, and my server was attentive and polite. I ordered a virgin cocktail, and my partner ordered a beer, and they were both delicious. For food, I ordered the fish and chips but substituted a salad and some vegetables - the server was nice enough to point out to me that the fish and chips comes with two sides to make sure I got my money's worth. The vegetables were well seasoned, the salad dressed with a bright vinaigrette, and the fish was fried perfectly in a light batter. All of my food was fantastic. But admittedly, my partner's food was the star of the night. He got the Havarti grilled cheese sandwich with a fried egg, and the sandwich was grilled to perfection and had some delightful umami notes. It was served with the garlic fries, which were perfectly salted and were difficult to stop eating. Overall, I couldn't recommend this place more. It was 100% worth it. read more

Was hoping I would have a chance to check this place out when I was visiting Salem/Beverly for some concerts. This place didn't let me down. First off, this is prob busy most of the time around meal times, weekends, holidays, etc. I think it's one of the best places around for a pint and a burger, which is exactly what I had. Would have love to come on a weekday, but alas my visit was on a long weekend in February on a Sat (around 3pm) but the place was still very busy. Because I was solo and it was the only option, I sat at the bar and had great service. My first option for beer was sold out so I had a Lawson's and the Mercy Burger or whatever it was called. Both were excellent. The garlic fries were a little soggy/smooshy but otherwise, still very good. Honestly the food and drink were just were just what I needed. All told, a little bit pricey but I feel like that's the new normal these days and is in a particularly historic section of Salem. I would def come back but prob wouldn't do a night of drinking here because I could see it getting expensive - that said, the place has a very cool ambience with neat art, good staff and pretty chill clientele so I have no hesitation giving it a 5/5. read more

While visiting Salem this weekend we decided to try Mercy and it was awesome. We arrived in Salem around 3:45 pm Saturday afternoon and walked to the restaurant. Upon arrival I could see a long line formed outside. I was starving and afraid that it would take forever to be seated but the line moved quickly. Once inside we ordered a few cocktails and apps before deciding on our main courses. We started with hot and sweet wings and truffle fries. The wings were cooked perfectly and the hot and sweet combo was spot on. And the truffle fries were just as tasty. Our main courses of house ribs, mercy burger and pumpkin ravioli arrived soon after. And we spared no time digging in. My house ribs were amazing. The meat was so tender and the bbq sauce was so tasty. My dining companions were impressed with their meals as well.
