The service is friendly in this family owned shop near Phuoc Loc Tho (Asian Garden Mall). There is quite a variety of banh Tet and banh Chung to choose from. I bought the banh Tet man and banh Chung man with pork belly. The sticky rice part is wonderfully chewy and tender. The mung portion is creamy. They are generous with the pork belly. Every slice has a good portion of pork belly. The rice cakes are wrapped well and tight that the cakes do not fall apart. The flavors are so well balanced. The texture combo is so delicious. I've gone here a few times to pick up traditional foods such as Banh Tet and Banh Chung for the Lunar New Year/Tet. It's a bit of a hole in the wall place, on a rather commercial/industrial street in bustling Little Saigon. Parking is extremely limited here - there are four spots in front of the bakery that is supposed to be for the bakery, but during the days leading up to Tet, this place is nothing less than a zoo getting in and out, and usually people end up grabbing those spots anyway whether or not they are actually shopping at the bakery. In any case, Minh Phung offers a selection of Banh Tet and Banh Chung - the cylinder shaped rice cake, and the square shaped rice cake. The "man" (does not refer to gender) version has mung beans and pork belly as it's filling - while the "chay" version is vegetarian. This bakery also offers the "3 mau" version - which stands for three colors - and is quite aesthetically pleasant. I don't know whether it's traditional, but I do know that the 3 mau version is more tedious to make because it requires three layers of different colors - so it might be better for gift giving. Sadly, since Tet is just a few days away, all their "chay"/vegetarian options were sold out. For Banh Tet/Banh Chung, if you buy enough, they'll give you a nifty reusable shopping bag. Friendly clerk - I was helped by the owner's son. I usually pick up enough to hand to close family/friends - and save one for myself to indulge in. The little bakery offers other traditional food items such as cha bon (dried shredded pork that you can put in rice porridge/congee), dua chua (pickled veggies). I just saw an Instagram Reel about someone making some bánh chưng and using a waffle iron to make it crispy. I was intrigued. I've never heard of bánh chưng nor had it before. But, it seems similar to a Chinese tamale (zongzi or doong). I Yelped and found Minh Phung as a place that sells bánh chưng. It's in an industrial strip mall tucked away in a residential area. I went in and the lady that helped me told me they only had one bánh chưng left since it was about a week past the Lunar New Year. So, she sold it to me for $15. Very disappointed. Order 4 boxes of the noodle early in the morning, they told me to come at 11:00 am and everything is ready for me to pick-up. About 11:00 am I stopped by to pick-up; guest what? My order had been sold to another person and nothing available for me to pick-up. At that moment I really pissed-off and wanted to yell at them; but I did not, just stepped out of the store and told myself that I will never come back to that store anymore. With Chinese New Year coming up, I stopped into Minh Phung to order banh tet to give as gifts. They're famous for the delicious traditional rice sticks. The most popular one is the banh tet 3 mau, which has two different flavored rices. I recommend frying the slices. My favorite one is the banh tet chuoi (banana). It's so sweet and delicious! They're super busy this time of year, so order ahead. Aside from those, I also get banh hoi and banh canh here. It's made fresh in house apparently. If you come at the right time, the noodles are all warm. I've seen their product in supermarkets too. The store itself is on an industrial looking street surrounded by auto body shops and businesses. I always get my freshly made banh tam from this store. On the weekend you might 2ant to call ahead to rsvp your banh tam because they only made so much & when they ran out, they're gone. This happened to me one time & I ended up with no banh tam. The banh tam here are solf & yet perfectly chewy good. I ordered "banh tet" ba mau chay, ba mau chay and banh tet chuoi to be picked up on 1/31/22. It was also my fault for not checking them carefully before leaving the store. On the 1st day of Lunar NY, I cut the one I thought it would be banh tet ba mau chay and it turned out banh tet dau chay. Today we cut 2nd one which was supposed to be banh tet 3 mau man, it turned out to be banh tet dau man. I was very upset about these mix-up items. I had learned my lesson. As a 1st generation Vietnamese-American who did not grow up in the area, I am always at the looks I get and the less than polite attitude that I get from my mom's peeps because I look more like my dad. Anyways the reason I had to give 4 stars is because not only did my banh tet taste fabulous and fresh but the lady at the counter was so kind and respectful to me. She made me feel like I belonged and didnt look at me weird because my accent isn't perfect and u dont look like I belong. This place is hidden on a small street right next to Asian Garden Mall. It's my favorite place to get banh canh which is very similar to udon noodles. The noodles are made fresh and packaged daily. There are two kinds and I love both. The blue bag is chewy, while the red bag still has flour so when you cook it in your broth becomes thick. They are both delicious! I also love buying the banh tet here during Chinese New Year. It gets really busy during that time so call and place your order before heading there!
