Don't believe them if there are reservations. It's all just smoke and mirrors.
    Aiden A.

Over the years Mimi's Cafes quality and service at this location have gone down hill. I keep going for random dinners on weeknights. The food isn't as fresh or the quality isn't there. I've tried to give grace over time but today was the icing on the cake. We made a reservation on OpenTable knowing it's a holiday and that some places will be closed and others packed. We figured Mimi's isn't too far from City of Hope, where we would be headed after to see my mom. We arrived and we were told that the wait would be an hour+ since their reservations are all full. I asked why would I be able to make one and they said they allow you to do that even if it's full. I know for a fact that you can turn that off if you're full or unable to take more reservations. So they are making the choice to inconvenience and waste peoples time. As I'm writing this, you can still make reservations ever 15 mins all day even though I was told there are no more reservations for the day. Guess I'll be grabbing something at the hospital while I visit my mom.

Mimi's - Monrovia - dad and I both had the turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and green beans, and cranberry sauce - which was delightful. We also had the tomato basil soup - it was exceptional! - they knocked it out of the park! I also had a glass of the Malbec wine, which was quite good. also, the complementary bread in the table was good almost a sourdough with kind of a cooked in a fire vibe with the burnt edges. Very nice with whipped butter. For dessert, he had the lava cake with ice cream, which looked wonderful and I had the exceptional buttermilk spiced muffin, which I've been coming to Mimi's for for years if you've never had one you have to have it it is uniquely delicious, and wonderful!

The ambiance here has always been lovely. The service is usually slow but on January 26th, when I went to take my friend out for her birthday, our server was actually pretty good. I would have chosen a different restaurant but I had a Mimi's gift card and my friend likes Mimi's. My friend had the salmon meal and said it was delicious. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad. The lettuce was browning and the flavor was meh. Usually there is cabbage in these salads but I don't remember if the menu said there would be. I didn't complain because my friend was enjoying her food so much I didn't want to spoil her experience but my salad was a waste of money in so many ways. I did appreciate that they gave my friend a muffin because it was her birthday. I have attached a picture I took of my salad. If I ever go back , I'll stick with the French onion soup.

Food was good and waiter was kind. Only thing service takes a while. I think they were short staffed.

The food was delicious and the server was super sweet. We went around 11a and had brunch. Easy seating.

    It's been open!!!

This place still has the French marketplace charm from years gone by. This chain was amazing before the Covid and I always drive by this location and it always seemed closed - forever gone I thought until today. My wife and I saw some activity while heading to Trader Joe's for some flowers and Kimbap. And on the way out we decided to get out and go in to finally confirm or deny whether it's open for business or just a place for senior seminars. Well to our surprise it was open! The bran muffin is slightly smaller but everything is still wonderful. This place needs to be back in everyone's rotation. Banners should be out there saying "we have been open, come on in!" And, banners should be out there facing the street whenever there is something special which is every month: New Years, Valentines, St Patty's, etc every month. The vast majority of people didn't know it was open all this time. I'm hoping word of mouth brings back the busy breakfasts and the happy energy ambiance (but I enjoyed the late lunches and early dinners because of the breads and cakes)! It was like a homecoming today for me. Thank you Mimi's!!!

***** READ THIS ****** Mimi's Cafe is like that reliable friend who never changes--and thank goodness for that. I've been coming here for years, and somehow, the food always tastes exactly how I remember it: warm, comforting, and just plain good. The quality? Steady as a rock. The service? Still top-tier. Big shoutout to Zaida, our waitress, who was an absolute gem--friendly, fast, and on top of everything without ever making us feel rushed. She deserves a muffin medal. Mimi's has truly stood the test of time. While the world spins into chaos (and trendier brunch spots come and go), Mimi's just keeps doing its thing--and doing it well. Long live the omelets, the muffins, and that cozy, vaguely French countryside charm. has always been my go to for breakfast. It never fails to leave me and my family completely satisfied I

Mimi's what happened to you? Your food used to be good, plentiful and reasonable for what you got. Today we (husband and I) both ordered the French dip. Talk about a chintzy meal. $16.99 for a half of a sandwich and 1 side. Are you kidding me? The menu showed a full sandwich, cut in half like normal. Far from what we received. To top it off, we ordered salads, which we never got, but we did receive a basket of 4 burnt slices of a very small French bread. What a disappointment.

This is my family's favorite restaurant in Monrovia. We at least come here once a week prior to the pandemic. Indoor and outdoor dining are available. Cozy environment with classic design. Friendly and quick customer service. Ordered this Sweet Glazed Salmon. Very hearty with great flavor. Fresh salmon, not dry at all. Variations of vegetables with good portion. Heard their dessert is pretty good. Will try them soon.

Came on a Saturday for lunch for 2 and was surprised that we were seated immediately. The cafe was busy inside and I love how many options Mimi's has on their menu. I opted for a Jambalaya ($20.50) and my boyfriend ordered the Corned Beef Hash & Eggs ($16.50) with a buttermilk-spice muffin. Both entrees were delicious and the muffin is AMAZING as it comes out nice and warm. However, I was disappointed that the portions were really small for the price paid. Especially for the Jambalaya - it may look like a lot on the plate at first glance, but it was spread out soo thinly that I was still hungry after finishing the entire plate. Our waitress was really friendly, but we did have to flag her down multiple times for refills on our water and coffee. For the ambience, I always love the cozy homey feel inside of a Mimi's. There is plenty of parking available in the lot which is always a plus. Overall, still a decent cafe with delicious food that I would say is slightly better in terms of quality than Denny's.

There are plenty of comfy booths to sit in. We came for lunch and the food was stellar. Great quality and large portions. I had the turkey pesto sandwich and vanilla cappuccino with oat milk. My friend had the bacon blue cheese walnut salad and peach iced tea. The server, Kevin, was on top of everything. Highly recommend.

Not as good as when I was a kid... I spent a lot of time at Mimi's growing up & always love the fresh, home-cooked type food. This time it was dry and overcooked, sad to ruin a fun childhood memory.

Food is always solid. Our server today was courteous and efficient but could have used some help as she was alone with several tables at 10:30 a.m. Like the decor and will never hesitate to visit Mimi's.

Could somebody post the Holiday Menu? Thanks.

Their turkey dinner is delicious. The waitresses and waiters are professional and they did their job, but they were not especially friendly. It is a little bit pricey, but this is a problem everywhere at every restaurant now days. Good atmosphere.

Is mimis open for pick up during quarantine?

It is open for indoor & outdoor dinning. Outdoor dining is in the shade, but the weather is so hot now in Monrovia, we think indoor dining is a much better choice. They have a lot of tables indoors. A good place. We ate there a month ago in 08/2021.

The owners added to the warmth of the space genuinely welcoming, the kind of presence that makes a place feel personal rather than polished-for show. The sea bass was the standout: perfectly crisped skin, buttery and delicate underneath, resting over earthy lentils that soaked up every bit of flavor. Paired with a smooth Malbec, it all came together effortlessly. But honestly, the best part of the night wasn't just the food or the wine. it was the company. Some highlights of the dinner were the escargot, duck pate (super gamey if you like it like that), and the green peppercorns on the entrecôte. The filet mignon was also super tender and paired nicely with the blue cheese. Other things we got were the steak tartare, short rib ravioli, duck confit pasta, and the mussels. Although yummy, everything felt like it lacked salt. We were excited for the duck confit pasta, but it was lacking a rich creamy sauce like that on the short rib ravioli. The mussels are cooked in a soup that was milkier than other places, which although yummy, threw us off a bit. Overall, it has a nice ambiance and vibes, but the food we had was very subpar. Considering the prices of the appetizers, tapas, and entrees, the portion sizes were very small (I am aware that French cuisine has smaller portions already). Service was excellent and our server was very attentive to our party throughout the night.

The iconic crêpe isn't much of you think about it but the execution of what it should be isn't as easy as most people think. The food here at Monsieur Crêpe is done and executed well. It is very reminiscent of what I expect from a crêpe. Having travelled to the iconic city of lights on numerous occasions, I can easily say that what is served here is done very nicely, unlike an elitist Yelper stated. I had the gluten free option for my Normandie and it was executed well. Again, if you expect a crêpe to be packed up like a burrito, go get a burrito instead! A loaded crêpe is not iconic just for your information. Also had the Crêpe Suzette and the elasticity of the crêpe is what you would expect. French Onion Soup was excellent according to my brother, not salty, but flavorful. My brother also had the omelette with ham and brie. He did enjoy it and commented that the brie should have been melted a bit more but was good nonetheless. Service was great, I don't understand how you measure what takes long for food unless you are that busy and impatient like the women that sat next to us. There are some public lots or street parking in the area. The creperie is a quaint little restaurant with French inspired décor. There are a few small tables inside. It was a rainy day so the outdoor seating wasn't set up, but I saw tables and chairs stacked up so I think they normally have more seating. We were seated and service was friendly. My boyfriend had a Forester ($19) which is one of their savory crepes with bacon, mushroom, caramelized onions, and crème fraiche. I had the Normandy ($19) which is a savory crepe with brie cheese caramelized onions, ham, topped with julienne apples and sour cream and a Vanilla Latte ($5.75). I was intrigued by the French Onion Soup ($16) too but I thought it was way too expensive for a side of soup. My vanilla latte came out first, but I wasn't too impressed with either the taste or the presentation. I prefer no design over a poorly made design. The food took a really long time to come out. Considering how hungry I was, my standards were pretty low... and I wasn't too impressed by the time the crepes came out. They weren't awful but they weren't impressive. There wasn't much filling, and for mine I didn't get much of the caramelized onion taste or visual of it. It was like a thin layer of ham with barely any brie and a soggy soggy crepe. Too soggy for my liking. Both taste and texture were underwhelming. This was an overpriced meal that wasn't too filling or satisfying. As we recently went to France a couple of months ago, we reminisced of the crepes we had in Paris and how much more affordable it was getting 5€ crepes for greater satisfaction. I would more likely go back to Paris for crepes or anywhere else than to come back here. -- Quick note cause I had some questions about if I was being harsh comparing these crepes to the ones I had in France. Even independently the price is too high and the flavors are too lacking for a bland snack.

La Vie has been on the corner of Fern and San Gabriel as long as I can remember. When looking for eats in the SGV, Asian food comes to mind but French food from the Julia Child days?? La Vie serves up classic -- almost kitschy -- french dishes, smack dab in the middle of the SGV: coq au vin, escargots, duck l'orange, etc. I've had an itch for steak au poivre for a while, and the featured photo on their Yelp profile beckoned (kudos to the photographer!!) I ordered their L'entrecote aux Trois Poivres -- sirloin steak with black, green, & pink peppercorn sauce. Entree includes soup of the day and a simple iceberg salad. Also, coffee if you want it. Their sides of the day-- sautéed snow peas, scalloped potatoes, and carrot purée, were also really tasty as was the soup. Pretty sure the beef was "choice", not "prime", but it was prepared really well and with care. I'm also pretty sure the cut was New York, not sirloin. The ambiance is equally nostalgic and kitschy and homey. Like the cuisine and the restaurant, this place doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. Although it's not pho, egg rolls, rice rolls, or fan tuan, La Vie is still an SGV dining institution. It's nice to know La Vie is close by.

Overall (5/5): We booked a reservation here on a Friday evening for DineLA back in early Feb but didn't get to posting this till now. The restaurant was pretty vibey and perfect for a date night. We were seated in the corner by the entrance making it feel more private than the other seats in the room, which was nice. It wasn't too loud either. Service was friendly and prompt. The food was very well executed, although at this price range we'd hesitate to try the regular menu. Overall, a very solid experience I'm glad we had!

The hostess was very kind and attentive. The waiters were amazing ! Our main waiter check in often! He gave us a lot of good suggestions but ultimately allowed us to make our own decision. The food was decadent and delicious. One of the best French onion soups I've ever had . Tasted strikingly like the one I had at La Chaise au Plafond in France. The crème brûlée was amazing , well prepared with just the right amount of sweetness.

But we really came here because of what we heard about the food, and it didn't disappoint. Definitely make a reservation if you are going on the weekend. We got there early and were lucky to be seated a little early. It was an outside table so the view of Del Taco was a bit weird given the quality of food but just need to ignore that. I don't remember the names of the items we ordered but they were all great. Calamari and beef carpaccio for starters, as well as a crab bisque. The mains were the sausage and black truffle pasta (our favorite), lobster pasta, and scallops and squid ink. Tiramisu for dessert, and they also gave us a refreshing spritzer type of drink. Can't remember the name but it's apparently derived from grapes. Definitely not cheap if you get the specials which the three pastas above are, but we really enjoyed it and plan to return again soon.

Good service. Ambience: 4 stars. Nice clean restaurant. A/C was blasting so bring a jacket along just in case. Overall a solid, Italian restaurant. Highly recommended. We'll come back if we are in the area. It's over an hour drive for us from westlake village.

Waiter Manuel. This…read moreis a review reflected on you, solely. Being kind is the moral of the story, from the beginning you were passive agressive with your comments and tone. Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket. Do better Manuel, you alone got your place of work a 1 star. The rest of the staff was kind, facility beautiful and food and wine was good. This restaurant is not reflected in the 1 star.
