I know it's a chain, but I just don't care. I can't knock Mimi's. French bistro meets large scale restaurant, Mimi's has never let me down. After several breakfasts & lunches here, I can say a few things for certain... Don't be on a diet. The cream cheese stuffed French toast is kind of amazing. Order the tomato bisque. Order the pumpkin pancakes. Don't come on a weekend if you don't want to wait an hour for a table. The pumpkin pancakes (seasonal) are dynamite. Every November, you need these pumpkin pancakes (along w the pumpkin truffles from See's Candy), in your life. Trust. Then, there's the home baked breads. You get a warm basket as soon as you sit down for lunch or dinner. A sourdough roll, a carrot bread slice, & corn bread. They're all great. You must order the tomato bisque. It's creamy & decadent. The ratio of deliciousness to guilt is toe to toe, but it's way worth it. You can be healthy here, too. Grilled salmon, roasted chicken, & apples w warm brie (I just don't eat the crostini served w it to omit the carbs), just to name a few things to keep you in check. My mom has had the pasta dishes & loved them, & I've got to mention the blue cheese & walnut salad. The chicken crepes are also good, & the quiche is fantastic. Now, the size of things. The muffins are huge. Blueberry, pineapple, bran, chocolate, buttermilk spice. I love the bran. Entrees are huge, too. An order of pancakes w a side of bacon & eggs is enough to put anyone over the edge. They're always introducing new dishes (hello, chicken mattone!), & the manager always says hi & checks in w you. So why not 5 stars? The coffee. I'm sorry, but I cannot lie. And it's better to skip a latte here altogether (or any espresso drink ftm), & grab one somewhere else beforehand. There are very few wine & beer options, but remember, this is a chain. The options are very, very, basic. Finally, the wait. I usually avoid this by sitting at the counter, but sometimes life dictates that you eat at a table. My pick? The corner booth in the back of the back room. A must for breakfast. 4 stars. read more

From the moment you drive up to Mimi's, you forget that you are at a mall or at least this one is. Adorably decorated inside and out French music is playing throughout . Wait am I in France? I was just greeted with bonjour! The staff pleasantly introduces themselves and asks you if this is your first visit. If it is,be honest because they walk you through the menu ...the favorites and give you special attention two items you might overlook. They attend to your every need and a prompt and efficient manner. These are items I consider important as if I own my own restaurant, I would want my staff to provide personal attention to each and every person that walks in and they do that at this Mimi's. I ordered the bacon Brie mushroom omelette with fruit instead of loaded potatoes. Excellent choice however my bacon was limp and undercooked and my Brie was less than Brie. Lori made it right by crisping my bacon and bringing more Brie at no extra charge She offered me a to go menu so I could consider coming back for lunch smart I ordered in 8 and left in 45 minutes you can't beat that! read more

What happened to Mimi's? While one friend had a brie, bacon and mushroom omelette that she really enjoyed, two of us had quiche Lorraine, which was really quite awful. Dry. Rubbery. Mimi's used to serve a nice slice of delicious quiche, they now serve individual pies that were obviously previously frozen. I'm pretty sure the potatoes were too. I would have only given two stars (after all, my friend liked her omelette), but gave three stars because our waitress, Suzie was the BEST server we've had in years and years and years. Friendly, respectful, attentive and so, so nice. If the Modesto Mimi's is to survive they need to fix the decline in food quality and put Suzie in charge of training staff in customer service. read more

Went to Mimi's Cafe in Modesto for breakfast with mom n hubby one Sunday. The whole atmosphere was musty and warm. None of us were happy with the food, but the Baileys coffee was the best. I received my pancake well after my other food because the first one was burnt. The llate replacement was still wet in the middle, so of course it was sent back by me and never replaced. I took the rest of my food to go at this point, and got an even worse experience when I got home and attempted to eat my omelette. There was a full sized piece of wax paper in my omelette. (SEE PHOTO) When I returned to Mimi's the next day with the tainted remainder of my omelette and to alert management of my full list of unsatisfactory services, I was offered a muffin NEVER AGAIN MIMI'S in MODESTO!!! read more

This is one of the few Mimi's still around and its just okay. They were busy as usual on a Saturday so we had to wait for a table for a few minutes but not long. We got seated and our waitress came by to say hello right away. Then came back a few minutes later to take our food orders. She brought refills regularly. They seem to have changed their menu again. I had a new item - the Mushroom & Brie Burger. I would say it was just okay. The brie was a bit too strong and the meat did not have much flavor. I have had good burgers here before but this one was a hit. The fries were good though. Nice and crispy. One friend had the mix and match trio with salad, soup and half a sandwich. She really liked her meal. The portion sizes are quite big. My other friend had the Tuscan Style Grilled Chicken. She really liked her meal too. She loves the flavor and all of the goodies with the chicken. I did order a carrot muffin to go which was yummy the next day for breakfast. And we loved the bread and mini muffins that the waitress gave us. So overall not bad but not great either, as least for my meal. Hopefully next time will be better. read more

I'm giving this place five stars because of Tracy, our server. She was absolutely wonderful! Attentive, accurate, communicative, friendly, prompt, and so much more than I ever expected from a chain restaurant. The food was decent, the atmosphere was satisfactory, but Tracy went above and beyond. Mimi's is not a regular dining spot for my family, it's a 15 minute freeway drive to get there, but I'd go back in a heartbeat for Tracy. If you're looking for a good meal, lots to choose from, comfy seating and superb service, I highly recommend visiting Mimi's and requesting to sit in Tracy's section. Wow, this place has gone WAY down hill. The outside might look nice and new, but the food is still the same... MEDIOCRE at it's very best. How very sad.. They no longer give you " fresh bread ", but instead cold, hard, old bread. They now charge you for any other type of bread. They also no longer give you muffins with your meal. This used to be our favorite restaurant to go when we were in Modesto. However, the last couple of times we ate there we were very disappointed. The food was not up to its usual excellence. Today I ordered an omelette, potatoes and toast and everything was cold. Eating a cold omelette and cold potatoes does not appeal to me. Very disappointing trip to Mimi's today. I brought the lady I care for in at Mimi's this afternoon for appetizers. She ordered chicken tenders with ranch, a bread basket, and Virgin Bloody Mary. She specified not spicy, and virgin, meaning no alcohol. First try, drink was spicy, second try brought the drink made with tomato juice instead of mixer, but it was made with alcohol! We had the most disappointing restaurant meal, I believe, we've ever had. We shared a four course meal. It started with bread and what tasted like margarine, definitely not butter, a very over-dressed Caesar salad, then French Onion soup which had a piece of bread that was so tough it couldn't be cut in the bowl. Soup was passable. An appetizer of Brie and bread (was served third) the Brie was heated to rubber in a pool of grease along with not-so-fresh bread. Our main course was Chicken Parmesan which tasted like a microwave dinner. Dessert was bread pudding which we took to go and after a bite decided it wasn't worth the calories.
