Once again here at Miltons ,this time I brought my sister and my mother to try some sandwiches. Sister had an opened face tuna sandwich that was OK for a $20 dollar sandwich with not so freshly melted cheese, Mom had a turkey sandwich that she loved with ok coleslaw, I tried a pastrami sandwich also with ok coleslaw and some fantastic homemade chips. Milton's was always hustling and bustling, today it was empty, some pastries looked like they had already been bitten and then put back in the case. I recommend you try read more

This place only exists because there are so few Deli's left. It is not a real Jewish Deli, which anyone from back East would realize when they see ham on the menu, but it isn't even a good regular Deli. The Matzo Ball Soup was so salty it was inedible, adding water just watered down what little flavor it had since nothing but carrots and chicken was added. No turnips or anything that really makes a good matzo Ball Soup. The corned beef was dry and tasteless, the so called Kaiser Roll was really just a Challah Roll. The pickle wasn't even good and the cole slaw was flavorless and bland. The potato Knish wasn't bad but it cost $12! They could easily make it smaller and more affordable. They served gravy with it but not deli mustard. Gravy with a Knish? Is this Idaho? The owners clearly have no pride or they wouldn't serve such bad food just because customers have no where else to go. read more

Always very good! Great sandwiches and sides for everyone in the family. The pick up service is fast, accurate and timely.

Decent deli food, horrible bakery, and it's all too expensive. I'm from LA where there are many delis with reasonable prices. Unfortunately San Diego only has a couple Jewish delis so they probably feel justified in their prices. I can't rationalize what the heck is going on in the bakery. Absolute worst black and white cookie I've ever had. I watched the Seinfeld episode about the bakery a few days ago and have been craving a B&W cookie ever since. Everyone knows the white side is slightly harder frosting than the chocolate side, which is supposed to be softer frosting that's a little firm on top and soft underneath. This chocolate frosting was rock hard and tasted like dry fondant or plastic (I could probably survive just once if at least it tasted like yummy chocolate). But it was so hard it broke off the cookie when you ate it. $6 for a garbage cookie that went in the trash. The chocolate rugelach is the biggest disgrace I've ever seen and isn't even a rugelach. Rugelachs are delicate pastry cookies that are rolled/twisted around a filling, and should be delicate, flaky, and softish. Not at Milton's. This thing was as dense as a brick, wasn't rolled whatsoever, and had a small ball of that hard crappy chocolate inside. Seems like they use the same dough as they do for butter cookies and it's the same texture except denser. One small crap rugelach and one (underwhelming) small chocolate chip coconut macaroon cost $4. Their Reuben, chicken noodle soup, and pickles are good. Their reuben is $20 and it's $2 extra for French fries if you don't want a small sides of potato/pasta salad or cole slaw. Chicken noodle soup without matzo is $8 for a bowl that's not enough for lunch or $13 for a big bowl. Super over priced. They won't do their Half Sandwich Combo (comes with a bowl of soup for $16) with the Reuben, so if I want both like I usually do, I get stuck paying $35 for a deli lunch with a coke. This place really needs to make some changes. If I could buy a reasonably priced lunch, I'd eat there once a week (but forego the bakery). Instead, I go once every 6-8 months when I can't go any longer without a Reuben. It's a shame. read more

We ordered 2 bowls of soup and 1 bagel. The bagel came plain, no butter or cream cheese. We were charged $6.00 for the bagel. As we were leaving I looked at the price of bagels and they were $2.00. The waitress had already changed our ticket twice. I will not be going back any time soon! read more

Milton's, unlike another deli in the college area looks more like a back east Jewish deli. The service is very friendly and the food is quite good. The menu lists tongue (when available). Unfortunately the last couple of times I ate there, it wasn't available. I ordered Pastrami on rye and it was very good. Our waitress was delightful. I was pretty close to leaving a review but then I went to the bakery counter. We ordered two mini black and white cookies and two anemic looking almond horns to go ($17.40). We had them for dessert when we got home. The cookies were ok. The almond horns tasted like they were made last week. Hard or almost impossible to chew. Fortunately I didn't break any teeth. I know what a fresh almond horn should taste like and this wasn't it. Still prefer it to the deli/sports bar where the wait staff are wearing Padres and Chargers jerseys. Are they still wearing Chargers duds? read more

Gone downhill since it opened 15 years ago had to send back food twice. It was cold both times. The food would've been good if it would've been heated properly and the weight staff seems depressed the whole place just lacks energy that it used to have. I found Milton's when I was cold and hungry in Del Mar after running errands. A sandwich sounded really good so I pulled in the parking lot and checked their menu to see if they had gluten free bread, they did! I ordered a pastrami Reuben and wow. I've been searching for a good gluten free pastrami Reuben for 5+ years and now I can rest. The meat, flavors, and bread were all so good. I've ordered it multiple times sense. The menu is super extensive so there is a choice for everyone and the staff has always been really friendly. read more

Will not be returning. Have been coming here since I was young. Milton's is a staple and the past 5 times has been a disappointment every time. They forget food, zero service, management is rude to their staff, there is zero quality in the food. I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and enough is enough. Poor service, terrible food, horrible management. I will not be returning. read more

After years of driving by this restaurant we decided to try it. The wait time was not unreasonable and the atmosphere was good. The time for us to be first served was excessive and two other tables were served before us(although by another waitress). The waiter seemed to be in a rush and quickly took our order and was gone in a flash. My water cup remained empty and eventually I had to ask for more. The food arrived by someone else and every dish was delicious although the ribs were cold. The waiter never checked back with us and sitting for about 10 minutes after we had finished we had to ask for boxes for our left-overs which after awhile we had to ask the busboy. The waiter finally brought the check and waited impatiently for me to get my credit card out so he could process it. As I stated before the food the food was excellent but the waiter, that seem to hid out in the back most of the time, was the worst I have seen in a long time. The hostess asked "how it was" and I stated "that the service was awful" and she asked how they could make it better. I thought about being "comped" for the meal but the food was great and the other employees we encountered were all OK. After reading other reviews it seems like there is a common issue of poor service. Not sure if we will return. read more

How the mighty have fallen! Miltons used to be pricey but worth it, because the portions were so large there was a second meal at home built into every order. The prices are still high, but the portions of meat is half of what it once was. Sad. This was not a one sandwich fluke, because I went with my spouse, and his sandwich was just as empty, not even enough meat to cover the bread at either end. read more

I was on site a couple of months ago for FrI. I had dinner on a Friday night and was looking forward to it after working 65 hours that week, putting in double hours. Unfortunately, my experience was not pleasant. The manager on duty was unprofessional and seemed to lack accountability for the service and food quality Once I asked for assistance This was not the owner, but I did email the owner and never heard back Additionally, in front of other customers, she made allude accusations about a child's meal that could have been for an adult Not only did that. She announced it to customers, but to her staff out loud to try to intimidate me due to my comments about not being waited on for 30 to 40 minutes and the food coming out completely wrong, which was unacceptable and embarrassing. The food was also not consistent with what I had experienced in the past. I emailed the managers expressing my concerns but haven't received a response even though it has been three weeks. The restaurant is usually short-staffed and lacks kindness. However, the food is good but inconsistent. They do not read reviews, so ordering to-go is recommended. Perfectly read more

Our family was sick and a friend picked up 2 - 1/2 gallons of matzo ball soup from Milton. Each half gallon cost $30.95. The soup was over salted and we could eat it. When I got well I took both containers back to Miltons and asked for a refund via a gift card. I spoke to the manager Eddy. One container was unopened and the other was over half full. Eddy asked me for a receipt. I told him I didn't have one as a friend picked it up for our family. Eddy said he could only give me a gift card for the cost of one 1/2 gallon of soup. I was very upset and told him I thought that was unethical as we could eat the soup. He said take or leave it and was very rude to me. I took the gift card but as soon as I use the value of it I will not return to Miltons. This is not the way to treat customers. read more

Showed up to Milton's in a very uncrowded atmosphere out of our table grouping. We were the first ones there to sit down two or three customers came in after us and we seated they were served first we were served last could not get a water refill and we basically just got ignored until we were ready to get our bill which we set for 10 or 15 minutes waiting to be acknowledged, it's a sad day. What's going on but especially we're not in San Diego. This is the third restaurant in two days having to sit and wait for a prolong period of time. Seems to be the norm. Prices have gone up in the service is incredibly bad no one seems to care, shame on Milton better training is required read more

if you are looking for a NY Jewish Deli in the San Diego area, this is NOT it. I am somewhat of a Jewish Deli acicalado having lived many years in NYC. unfortunately, Milton's failed the basic Deli tests: 1) they do not make pickles and do not have a tub of half sour and full sour pickles on the table. my sandwich was served with a Klausens pickle (Oh the horror!). 2) the pastrami was not made in house (Boars Head?) it was sliced too thin, it was too lean and frankly dry Matzoh balls were good though All in all a bit disappointing. San Diego has better NY style Deli's read more

I have always loved Milton's for any meal throughout the day. This restaurant has meals for everyone in the family. The menu is about as diverse as any place in the country. The picky eaters can always find something to eat. They have this Monte Cristo sandwich to die for, salads galore, and home cooking sort of meals for anyone who misses Mom's food. You can go there dressed up or in board shorts, no one cares. It is the perfect place for anyone in town. Thank you for providing such a variety of foods that even my picky family loves. read more

Milton's - Re-fried the next day for breakfast! - Delis Near Me - Del Mar, California

Went there with my daughter and family tonight. The cabbage soup was not hot, so we had two soups sent back to heat up. How hard can it be for restaurants to serve hot food. I've run into a lot of this lately and am not tolerating it anymore. The brisket looked like deli meat, thinly sliced like you would get at an Arby's. My daughter took it back for grilled chicken breasts which were better. The corned beef sandwich was very good. Chicken soup good. Everyone liked the cole slaw. The service was excellent, and the waitress was very accommodating with taking our food back and attempting to make it right. The good news is so far we have not gotten sick. Had I read the Yelp reviews before going, we would not have tried it. I recommend not wasting your money on this restaurant. read more

Man is it so satisfying to check a bookmark off your yelp list! ha ha I've had Milton's bookmarked since August 2016. I first passed by it while I was on a lunch break at my old job and I was getting Nothing Bundt Cakes in the same plaza. I saw Milton's from the outside and I thought it looked nice so I bookmarked it right away! I'm hardly in the Del Mar area but one of my co-workers doesn't live too far from this plaza so when I hung out with her a few weekends ago I made a quick stop here. Milton's is a Jewish restaurant. I've never had Jewish food before. I've seen their breads at multiple grocery stores across San Diego. We didn't have time to sit down for a meal but I did get to try out their bakery. They had fresh fish, soups, cookies, breads, pastries, cakes etc. I ordered an onion bagel with cream cheese to-go. It tasted great. Their bakery section is ideal for takeout lunches. They even have pizzas and soups in their fridge that customers can take home to prepare for a later meal. I for sure want to come back when I have more time to try out their sit-down restaurant! read more

Let me start off by saying the food here is excellent but the service is hit or miss. Their pastrami sandwiches are a must try and so is their desserts. Avoid coming here during the racing season as you'll never find a parking spot or even a place to sit. The best time to come is during the midweek. You can thank me later. read more

We went there for chicken pot pie. their pie is not a pie at all. It's a bowl of stew that could go into a chicken pie and a square of puffed pastry on top. I don't give Miltons 5 stars because it's a jewish deli. I reserve 5 stars for fine dining only. I don't give it 4 stars because it is understaffed or poorly staffed, don't know which, and the service was incredibly SLOW! From the time I was seated until I was served was just over an hour and all I had was Matzo Ball soup. The soup was good. I mean, we're talking chicken noodle soup with a single matzo ball. A ginormous matzo ball. When I make this soup at home I make smaller, much smaller matzo balls. This is what I prefer. The giant matzo ball is intimidating. The smaller ones much more accommodating and easier to eat. read more

We placed an on-line order thru Milton's website for pickup. When we showed up 15 minutes later the restaurant was closed for repairs and were told we would be refunded for the order. It is shame as their food is superb but Maria's neglect is inexcusable. read more

Not impressed with sandwiches to come back, and I think the prices are really expensive, even if I were really rich and had more money than I knew what to do with, it would be painful for me to order Reuben or other meat sandwich. The pastrami is very lean, if you like lean you will be happy with it, But I like fatty pastrami, with the fatty edges like bacon. Cole Slaw and potato salad just average here. The water is really HORRID, smells and tastes so strongly of chemicals, I couldn't drink it. I suppose you have to buy bottled water, but with such horrid water, if I was restaurant owner, I would get a water filter or RO system. I came here to hear a speaker who provided lunch, but I had to ask server to replenish the coleslaw and potato salad bowls, they were so tiny to serve so many people. Other situations give service 2 stars. Only the dill pickles gets 4 stars. read more
