On a Sunday evening, we began our meal with yam fries and peach bruschetta! Fabulous. Chef Alynn uses fresh herbs from Dickinson's Farm in National City. Every bite is an explosion of flavors. My husband ordered the seafood dinner and I had the salmon tacos. His entree was a huge portion of perfectly prepared salmon covered with 8 huge shrimp, peach salsa and surrounded by roast potatoes and brussels. Again, the seasoning was spectacular!! My salmon tacos with raspberries and avo were off the charts. I am embarrassed to say that after all that food, we ordered ice cream cones - herb ice cream! That's right! Blue basil and pollen were inside and on top. Never had we ever.. I highly recommend this pop up! You will not be disappointed. read more

Chef Alynn and Emmi are fantastic - They're a great team and I've enjoyed getting to know them since discovering NU. But that's how they do it; super friendly, down-to-earth, make you feel like family. We order often to support quality restaurants in IB and it's easy to do because the food is amazing and the portions are generous. Chef Alynn uses fresh ingredients from local farms and salt = food packed with flavor. A monthly, seasonal menu allows folks to sample a plethora of Chef Alynn's creative dishes. Tim and I went to our new favorite red house kitchen pop up restaurant "Neat Underground"and the food was incredibly delicious We started off with the blackberry and brie bruschetta it was amazing I ordered the salmon and it arrived in parchment paper and was brimming with flavor. Tim had the meatloaf and its was the best he had ever had .The restaurant has a very kid friendly fun atmosphere. The kids got $1.00 hotdogs and honestly that's what got us in. We showed up and had a wonderful time kids were drawing on the chalk board, and we were fortunate to meet chef Alynn and personally thank her for an incredible meal . The owners and staff go out of their way to be courteous and helpful even when busy.. Sunday mornings this place is busy because their food is excellent and a bit eclectic. I had a Reuben with beets instead of pastrami. Omg! Could only eat half. My friend ONLY wanted their acai bowl but they had sold out. So we talked while I sipped my pomegranate lemonade. We will return on Saturday for his bowl if acai. Oh, the owner was giving us suggestions for other places for acai bowl. That is the kind of people they are. The menu is so inventive and meticulously crafted. I ate there for the first time a week ago and can't stop thinking about it. A simple thing like bread and butter got transformed into this amazing dish, with edible flowers and black garlic over the butter and this delicious, lite, pumpernickel. Got two lobster crawfish rolls and a potato salad. Everything was so salty we couldn't eat it. My mom got the potato salad and there was excess salt on top. The lobster rolls had excess salt at the bottom of the container. 72 dollars and a ten dollar tip and we didn't even eat half the food. Popcorn is good though. read more

We tried this place after a friend recommended it and since then we have gone almost once a week. My wife loves the mystery burger which changes weekly and is a flavor adventure to say the least. The combinations that Chef Alynn chooses are always surprisingly delicious and well worth the risk. I have sampled many of the recurring and special items from the monthly menu from the jack fruit tacos to the seared tuna, everything has been delicious and cooked to perfection. If you're looking for Applebee's, then go there, but if you're looking for a fun restaurant experience with amazing food and a laid back atmosphere, this is your place. read more

First of all I love the feel of the place. We've gone twice. The decor is welcoming (it's a different coffee shop/brunch place in the mornings) and all of the staff have been super welcoming. It was a chilly night both times we went and the heaters were great and we were plenty warm. They even had blankets available, but we didn't need them. The food is just outstanding. The clam bake is absolutely to die for. Just writing that makes my mouth water. If it's on the menu -- order it. Period. It's perfection. The cheese plate was well chosen and had generous portions with lots of little details and extras - honey and jam,etc. My 11-year old extremely picky eater can't stop talking about the salted potatoes. "But I didn't even think I liked potatoes, mom!" Now she does :) The menu changes monthly and is utterly courageous and creative. Even the popcorn appetizer is fun with an exciting blend of unique flavors. I can't recommend this little sweet spot enough. You won't regret it. Love this place! The chef and wait staff are so nice and the food is always amazing. It's wonderful that it's different every time since their menu changes monthly and they have new weekend specials all the time. Their food is made salty AF, just like they advertise, but you can always ask them to tone down the salt when you order. First time dining here tonight...absolutely delicious! We sat in an outside courtyard. My coffee stout was scrumptious! Started with whipped feta and a drizzle of balsamic on fresh bread, sprinkled with arugula micro greens. For the main the autumn gnocchi with tender butternut squash, roasted carrot and onions. The unique addition of toasted pumpkin seeds and pomegranate gave the dish a complex sweet and savory balance. My friend got the vegan butternut squash and jackfruit tacos- out of this world!! Delicious food with a menu that changes monthly set in a cozy covered patio environment. I've been at least 5 times in the last 2 months and everything I've tried has been delicious. Some of my favorites have been the salmon, the vegetarian pasta with greens, the vegetarian tacos, the clambake, the meatloaf, and most recently the burger. The chef is great about dealing with food issues- at a recent multi course tasting dinner one of the dishes contained an element I'm allergic to and she kindly made me a version excluding that ingredient. I wasn't originally going to write a review but after having read that someone had almost the same experience as I did prompts me to do one as well. I visited Neat about a month ago. There is only 1 cook and 1 waitress so the food takes about an hour to be brought out. When my meal arrived I was overall satisfied with my plate although the pork tenderloin was very overdone and dry. On the other hand, when my husband received his Mac and cheese he could hardly eat it. He said it tasted like pure salt and could not continue eating. When the waitress returned we asked if she would take the plate back and please half off the price as we did not enjoy it. She returns and says "we can take off $5 but our motto is literally buttery and salty as fuck and the sauce itself is already pretty salty so if you don't like that then maybe next time ask for it without extra salt." So we paid $19 for a bowl of salt. Not to mention it made him feel very sick. The chef has some amazing ideas and has the potential to make some really gourmet meals however she downplays it and ruins it with excessive salt. Salt is not a cure-all. I wonder if she even tastes the food before she sends it out. There were even sea salt chunks in the "Mac and cheese". Salt is important but is not the star of the show. You have to be able to taste the other ingredients as well. Very expensive and poor customer service. read more

This sounded like a great concept, so we headed south to try it. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The service was received we was horrible. There were four types of wine listed on the menu. Chardonnay, rose, etc. I asked the server what winery they were from, she said she would have to go check, since they were from two different wineries. Two different wineries and she can't even remember those two names? I then asked about the fish on the menu since the type was not named, just that it was fish. The server told me that she could not tell me anything about the fish, since she was a vegetarian and did not eat fish. I ended up greatly enjoying the fish off the menu. My friend's meal, the fish special of the evening, was a disaster. 1/2 was cold the other side was completely over done and dried out. The piece of fish was tuna, and it was shaped as a triangle instead of the rectangular shape I have enjoyed in other restaurants. When we mentioned The over done and under done issue to the server, she came back after a few minutes and said the chef says that's what happens when it's lightly seared all of the way around. She said she could have the chef cook another piece of tuna, But it would be a much smaller piece since my friend had had a few bites of hers. There were only us and one other table in the restaurant. The other table ordered a cheeseboard and chicken nuggets and arrived 40 minutes after we were seated. (Side note: they asked about the beer offerings and the server suggested a beer based upon "the can design looks like a lot of work went into it, so they must have worked hard n the beer too."). The restaurant was not busy, I wish the situation has been handled better. I can overlook the cheap silverware, the water that you have to go and get yourself, but I can't overlook utterly awful service. read more
