I was disappointed with my recent visit. I asked what meats were available for sandwiches listing two meats. I was told the choices, and that I could choose two different meats if I wanted. When I saw my total for sandwich and latte, I said it seemed a little high. The cashier looked at the menu boards and said it was "pretty close". I was in my happy place so I just went along. Got my digital receipt where I saw a $1.50 upcharge for two different meats. I didn't go back inside to dispute it, but was annoyed. Then I tasted the sandwich. Overripe avocado, eggs overcooked and dry, and very salty, cheap tasting turkey lunch meat. I expected better for a $15 breakfast sandwich. My hot latte was just warm. A cute local cafe with excellent coffee and breakfast options. The coffee has a very smooth and moderate taste and came out appreciably hot. The croissant (quaso) is flaky and airy while still having a slight crisp. The egg and sausage also have a nice texture, although I kinda like my eggs to be even fluffier now. I like the spinach as well. My only nitpick would be I'd love more sauce of some kind as well. They have healthier options that I'll have to try later. read more

Very casual place, very close to the beach. You order and pick up your food at the counter. They do have a seating area, though the tables could use a bit of cleaning because of crumbs from previous customers--but not a big deal. Our order was prepared quickly, and we got our food in less than 10 minutes. I love the açaí; it had just the right amount of sweetness, and the tangy yogurt combination was great. They cooked the egg just how we like it, and my son loves his croissant sandwich with bacon. Prices are fairly reasonable. I would definitely come back here next time I visit. read more

When you're just visiting an area, you tend to only get to eat out at some of the nearby spots once. This can usually tarnish a view of a good restaurant with a single bad experience or vice versa. And in this instance, we came and went with just an average stop here at Katy's Cafe. I had the Spring Green Avocado Toast. It was beautifully prepared, bright and colorful. But, the greens on top were very bitter, overpowering much of the other flavors. I found I had to pick them off just to get to the sweetness of the tomatoes or the salt from the feta. My lady love had the Croissant Beginnings, a basic, but still tasty breakfast. The croissant itself was light and flakey, and there was plenty of egg, meat, and cheese to make it filling. The flavors were fine, I think the only suggestion I would make is to form and fry up their own ground sausage instead of using pre-formed and pre-cooked patties. Grilling the croissant wouldn't hurt either, but they may be too soft to survive the heat. She also grabbed a coffee, which I didn't taste myself, but she was very happy with both the taste of it, as well as all of the options she had as add-ins. I believe her biggest surprise was some Oat Milk that was both fresh and the brand she preferred. So, while I doubt we'll ever come back out here for a second try, and I can easily say that if you're in the area, having breakfast here won't do you too wrong. And at the very least, I can definitely suggest having this as your local coffee spot. read more

I came in and said hi and the baristas didn't even acknowledge me let alone look at my direction. I decided to order an iced Caramel machiatto which costs almost 10 dollars. It's not brewed just straight came from the carton same with their soy milk and caramel. Then they expect me to tip as well. The straw is paper thin and broke within one minute. It's a nice little shop and I wish the service is a little bit better but they seem to be nicer on a different type of people (go figure). Drinks are overpriced but nothing special imo. We ordered 2 classic breakfasts with pancakes but they didn't have pancakes, so I asked for the salmon bagel, they didn't have that either so they made something up. It's been a long time since I have been served disappointment for breakfast. If you don't have what I want I'd rather be told "No" than to pay for something I won't eat. I moved here 5 years ago I cannot tell you how much I love Katie's cafe. I'm there every morning at 6:00 a.m. it's a great place to hang out. Meet the locals. They all stop by. Very dog friendly. I also love all of the people that come by from out of town. Some of them I see every 6 months. Or once a year. They always come back. I am a big fan of the crescent beginning. Steak was very well good, had a nice texture and was savory. I also liked that the bread was nice and crispy. Well portioned too, I was pretty full in finished both halves. After I spent the night in the downtown Imperial Beach, I was cruising through their Strand and was looking for a quiet place to relax, grab a coffee and do some remote online work. I found Katy's Café and was pleasantly surprised. Katy's Café is a quaint coffee shop in downtown Imperial Beach and it is almost the perfect spot to grab some breakfast, a sip of coffee and even do remote work. Katy's Café is right on Seacoast Dr, within walking distance and close proximity to the beach and many other shops in the area. The interior decor is cute and comprises of many hand-painted murals that amply represent the coastal beach vibes. They have a few pieces of decor and also paintings for sale. The seating is varied and has space for singles, couples or even bigger groups of 6. My only observation is that the seating wasn't cushioned, but the setup was still nice. Their bathroom was spacious, clean, had a changing-table and more beautiful painted mural artwork. Service was excellent and attentive. I was greeted with a smile and also observed that they were very thorough in asking customers if they served the military (to give a discount I presume). My smoothie was pretty tasty and I loved that they used real bananas. The price was reasonable for the size and I was pleased that I could enjoy sipping while plugged into their outlet in my own quiet space. Perfect for remote online work. I definitely recommend coming to Katy's Café the next time in Imperial Beach and try their delicious sandwiches too (everyone was enjoying theirs). read more

October 31, 2023 about 9:30 AM. My sister visiting from Virginia treated me and my husband to this cute little cafe in Imperial Beach. She was due to fly out later in the day. I hadn't been here in years and was pleasantly surprised at how much they've improved IB. I was impressed at the array of new storefronts. Katy's Cafe wasn't very big but was bright, clean, and colorfully whimsical in decor. The ladies behind the counter were very sweet & welcoming. We all ordered their breakfast croissants aptly named "Croissant Beginnings" along with hot coffees. My sister & hubby had sausage while I ordered bacon. My experience here has been wickedly good. Great location by scenic Seacoast Dr in Imperial Beach. Clean cafe with the obligatory sandy floor being by the beach. It's busy for a good reason. This place is great and in demand. To me, you get what you wait for. I've had great service with sincere smiles and courtesy from most of the cashiers even in busy times for me but I've just moved to the area. Nothing wrong with a cashier being real with people when they want to smile. I'm chatty with them but they've never rushed me along even when my Spidey-emphatic senses could tell the line was getting restless. TERRIBLE place. NEVER. EVER. Come here. Employees were drinking white claws on the job, I noticed on the menu they had a caramel macchiato. I asked the girl at the register if their caramel macchiato was a traditional macchiato or more like a starbucks macchiato (which is like a latte). She goes to say "are you asking if it has vanilla in it because the starbucks one has vanilla in it" I say no i'm just wondering if the macchiato is traditional, espresso with a little bit a foam. She goes on to say "well this isn't starbucks so I don't know what you want" she proceeds to turn around and shout to her coworkers "this isn't starbucks right guys!" and they all start laughing. I should've taken the hint if they don't know what a traditional macchiato is, then it wouldn't be good. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich and we were waiting around for 20 minutes and still haven't received his sandwich. My boyfriend goes up to ask if his order is okay, the worker proceeds to not look in his eyes, sighs loudly and says they are still working on it. We wait around for another 10 minutes before we go back up and ask to speak to someone else. This kind worker finally decided to help us and checked on our order for us. He said the order was sent out 25 minutes ago and someone must've taken our order. He offered to remake it for us but we said it was okay and he gave us a refund. I feel terrible for him, he was the only one doing his job as his coworkers were squealing downing white claws one after another. The worker from before who didn't even acknowledge my boyfriend or help him also offered a customer a white claw as well. Will never visit again. read more

I have never experienced discrimination in my entire life until yesterday. I'm a traveler and stopped at this café early in the morning around 6:00 AM because the location near the beach looked beautiful and I was craving a coffee and a sandwich. The moment I walked in, I was met with hostility. Several customers immediately started recording me for no reason. The employees told me they were going to close the door on me, and they even went as far as calling ICE on me -- despite the fact that I am American. I wasn't intimidated, but I was shocked and deeply disappointed. No one should ever be treated this way, especially in a place of business that should welcome all customers. What happened was unprofessional, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable. I will never return, and I hope management takes this seriously because no one deserves to feel targeted or dehumanized when simply trying to buy breakfast. read more

The inside had lot of beachy decor, with some worn furniture, very relaxed and casual vibe. I don't think its the best place to stay and sit as they only had a few seats inside, but they had some outdoor tables in the back adjacent to the beach (it is literally a 20 second walk to the beach!)
