What we were given instead of the classic breakfasts.
Diana R.

We ordered 2 classic breakfasts with pancakes but they didn't have pancakes, so I asked for the salmon bagel, they didn't have that either so they made something up. It's been a long time since I have been served disappointment for breakfast. If you don't have what I want I'd rather be told "No" than to pay for something I won't eat. Not likely to be coming back with the exception of coming back for a refund. The place is cute and all but cute doesn't make up for the disappointment.

Very casual place, very close to the beach. You order and pick up your food at the counter. They do have a seating area, though the tables could use a bit of cleaning because of crumbs from previous customers--but not a big deal. Our order was prepared quickly, and we got our food in less than 10 minutes. I love the açaí; it had just the right amount of sweetness, and the tangy yogurt combination was great. They cooked the egg just how we like it, and my son loves his croissant sandwich with bacon. Prices are fairly reasonable. I would definitely come back here next time I visit.

I moved here 5 years ago I cannot tell you how much I love Katie's cafe. I'm there every morning at 6:00 a.m. it's a great place to hang out. Meet the locals. They all stop by. Very dog friendly. I also love all of the people that come by from out of town. Some of them I see every 6 months. Or once a year. They always come back. I am a big fan of the crescent beginning. Katie's is located right next to the beach. Could not ask for a better place to start my day.

Decided to take a walk in IB today and came across a cute little cafe. It was very busy from the minute we tried to order. Line was out the door. We went with two crossiant sandwiches and half a cinnamon roll. My coffee was a Mexican mocha and that was just okay. My sandwiches needed more mayo I am not a fan of a dry sandwich. We got our food before my coffee made it to our table. That kind of threw me off. Not sure what was going on today, but I'll still come back and give it another shot.

Steak Sandwich

This was actually the first place we ate at while visiting Imperial Beach! Location was convenient and there's parking right outside the building which is nice. Also close to the water. :) Staff were very friendly. I got the steak sandwich while my girlfriend got the Lox Bagel. Pricing for both was pretty average and nothing outrageous. Steak was very well good, had a nice texture and was savory. I also liked that the bread was nice and crispy. Well portioned too, I was pretty full in finished both halves. Tried some of the Lox Bagel too, and the salmon was delicious! I can see it being a good breakfast option. Great place for a quick bite. Interior has seating and feels on par with the beach vibes. PROS: - great location, parking available - pricing is average - steak sandwich is delicious; meat was well cooked CONS: - none! :)

After I spent the night in the downtown Imperial Beach, I was cruising through their Strand and was looking for a quiet place to relax, grab a coffee and do some remote online work. I found Katy's Café and was pleasantly surprised. Katy's Café is a quaint coffee shop in downtown Imperial Beach and it is almost the perfect spot to grab some breakfast, a sip of coffee and even do remote work. Katy's Café is right on Seacoast Dr, within walking distance and close proximity to the beach and many other shops in the area. The interior decor is cute and comprises of many hand-painted murals that amply represent the coastal beach vibes. They have a few pieces of decor and also paintings for sale. The seating is varied and has space for singles, couples or even bigger groups of 6. My only observation is that the seating wasn't cushioned, but the setup was still nice. Their bathroom was spacious, clean, had a changing-table and more beautiful painted mural artwork. Service was excellent and attentive. I was greeted with a smile and also observed that they were very thorough in asking customers if they served the military (to give a discount I presume). My smoothie was pretty tasty and I loved that they used real bananas. The price was reasonable for the size and I was pleased that I could enjoy sipping while plugged into their outlet in my own quiet space. Perfect for remote online work. I definitely recommend coming to Katy's Café the next time in Imperial Beach and try their delicious sandwiches too (everyone was enjoying theirs).

My experience here has been wickedly good. Great location by scenic Seacoast Dr in Imperial Beach. Clean cafe with the obligatory sandy floor being by the beach. It's busy for a good reason. This place is great and in demand. To me, you get what you wait for. I've had great service with sincere smiles and courtesy from most of the cashiers even in busy times for me but I've just moved to the area. Nothing wrong with a cashier being real with people when they want to smile. I'm chatty with them but they've never rushed me along even when my Spidey-emphatic senses could tell the line was getting restless. My steak sandwich was great, especially the steak and pickled purplish veggie stuff. Highly recommend. I hope to frequent.

October 31, 2023 about 9:30 AM. My sister visiting from Virginia treated me and my husband to this cute little cafe in Imperial Beach. She was due to fly out later in the day. I hadn't been here in years and was pleasantly surprised at how much they've improved IB. I was impressed at the array of new storefronts. Katy's Cafe wasn't very big but was bright, clean, and colorfully whimsical in decor. The ladies behind the counter were very sweet & welcoming. We all ordered their breakfast croissants aptly named "Croissant Beginnings" along with hot coffees. My sister & hubby had sausage while I ordered bacon. They are deliciously made with cheese and egg on a toasted, buttery croissant. Coffee was very tasty. Will definitely return when we're in the area again.

Do they have high chairs?

Yes, we have one high chair available for toddlers.

Do they have cinnamon rolls on fridays? Or just saturdays and sundays?

We normally offer cinnamon rolls Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but this weekend the baker that we get them from is out of town. He should be back next week though!

What are the updated hours? We came by this morning and they were closed. Yelp and google say it should be open. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Reopened Memorial day weekend. 6am to 5pm 7 days a week. Kitchen currently open till 2pm.

It looks like it might end where the corner is, but it extends all the way in. Note that it still fills up quick on the weekends. Very cute interior, coffee, cups, everything. The menu looks like graphic design was someone's passion, although I low key wonder if AI was used. The mazapan latte was a bit too creamy for me, but as someone that usually takes their coffee black, that's probably my fault for ordering something like that. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, and I like how they were mixed in. The cheese was a nice touch. Sometimes, I think refried beans + potato is too dry, but these beans were not as thick and the potato was also surprisingly soft and warm. It also came with some nice tortillas. Finally, a shout-out for this special hot sauce. It's deceptively hot for how sweet and syrupy it looks and feels. Quite tasty. I wouldn't mind purchasing a bottle of this.

We came on a Saturday and waited about 30 minutes to be seated--and let me be clear: this was not a wait, this was worthy anticipation. The interior alone is was everything! With Valentine's Day around the corner, the place is dressed like it's about to propose--warm, charming, cozy, and flirting with your serotonin. I started with the banana matcha, which arrived crowned with the cutest little bear ice cube I have ever seen in my life. I'm talking weaponized cute. The flavor? Smooth, balanced, lightly sweet, and comforting in a way that made me feel emotionally supported. I didn't just drink it--I healed. Then came the machaca. Listen. This dish did to me what that scene in Ratatouille did to that critic--except instead of a French childhood flashback, I was spiritually transported to a Mexican tia's kitchen I'm not even sure I've lived in. Deeply savory, perfectly seasoned, rich without being heavy. Every bite whispered, "You've been hungry for this your whole life." My husband ordered the huevos divorciados, but they were so good we convinced them to give their marriage another shot. Perfectly cooked eggs, sauces with actual personality, and a harmony so strong it felt like couples therapy on a plate. And then--the salsa. Served warm, spicy, and oil-based (the holy trinity), presented in a literal swan container. A SWAN. Regal. Dramatic. Slightly unhinged in the best way. I would've signed a lease for that salsa. The only tragedy of the entire experience is that I got full. Genuinely devastating. I would've happily kept eating until they had to roll me out wrapped in Valentine's decor. El Encanto isn't just delicious--it's joyful, playful, soulful, and absolutely worth every minute of the wait. I'll be back, hungrier and emotionally prepared next time. Elite Squad, if you're listening: this place understood the assignment.

They also have a young man who plays jazz piano there every Sunday, so the ambiance is pretty awesome along with the nice weather. I also had a matcha ginger thyme latte with oat milk which was just tasty since ginger is a rare flavor in coffee drinks. I loved it, and it was so good that I took an extra one home. Unfortunately, from service to food, nothing stood out in a way that made us eager to return anytime soon. The food was just okay. The meat lover omelette was small, thin, and surprisingly light on meat. The chilaquiles portion was also on the smaller side and lacked flavor. Overall, there wasn't anything memorable or a "wow" factor that set the dishes apart. Service was slow, and there was little follow-up from our server, no check-ins to see how the food was or whether we needed refills. When it came time to pay, we also waited quite a while to receive the check. The decor felt average and somewhat lacking in attention to detail. Some elements came across as a bit tacky, for example, bathroom fixtures appeared to be spray-painted gold and were already peeling, and the greenery looked artificial rather than real. We've really been hoping for a standout, go-to brunch spot in the South Bay, especially since many of the more unique and vibrant options require a drive north. Unfortunately, this visit didn't quite meet those expectations. Parking was a bit hectic due to the shared lot, though that's not entirely the restaurant's fault. Prices are moderate--not overly expensive, but not a great value considering the overall experience.
