You really can't beat the location. The patio sits right along the beach with beautiful views of the ocean, Imperial Beach, Mexico, and Point Loma. It's the kind of place where you could easily linger over a meal just for the scenery. The food was a pleasant surprise. Everything we ordered, including the drinks, was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. Unfortunately, the service was a major letdown. Our server disappeared for what appeared to be a break while we were still dining, and no one else checked on our table. We waited quite a while before my dining companion finally got up to track down someone just to get a glass of water. It felt like we had been forgotten. The food and the view were definitely worth the visit, but the service kept this from being a great experience. Hopefully it was just an off day, because the location alone makes you want to come back.

Wow this exceeded my expectations. I needed a last minute plan for Father's Day and I wanted ambiance, views of the ocean, a solid menu, and close to home. I found this after a some research and I am so happy I did. We got a booth right next to the beach and had the best views right before sunset. We order the mediterranean dip sampler which included pita bread, hummus, labneh, and roasted eggplant. So delicious. I got the grilled shrimp tacos and my dad got the chicken fettuccine alfredo. For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake with some ice cream and this a must try. Parking was easy to find, service was great and timely, and it's a nice area to walk around after. I can't wait to come back with the rest of my family.

The Wagyu Cheeseburger extremely dry and a waste of money

9/12/26 sitting at Sammy's while I'm writing this and let me tell you ... from Yelp the place looks appealing and a great food place . In actuality it sucks ! We seem to have came on the same day the CEO decided to be here and staff was making sure they were attentive when it came to job security, so much customer service lacked ! We had to Ask several times for a steak knife just to be brought a butter knife while the waiter explained we don't have any thing except these and use elbow grease ! I asked 3 times for a water never received it . The Waygu burger was extremely dry and when asked for ranch it took 20min and by then I was over it ! But as long as the CEO is tended to I guess the rest of us can wait .... My advice go somewhere else or call first and ask if customer service is high on the list or the CEO is in attendance.... And if so go elsewhere

Sammy's is hands down one of the best lunch spots in Imperial Beach. It's such a beautiful place to have lunch right on the water, with a great atmosphere, excellent food, and an incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Javier, the manager, was wonderful, and Jose took such great care of us. Great service from start to finish. I'll definitely be back!

VIEWS! VIEWS! VIEWS! From IB pier to Point Loma this is a great place to watch sunset. They also have HH every day, including weekends, that is unbelievable - you have to try the duck tacos!! The pizzas are always great. This location even has a brunch menu that is so great. Recommend: lobster avocado toast or salmon benedict. In short... get here asap because you will be coming again and again!!

This place is AMAZING! You can't beat the atmosphere. Brunch and lunch is absolutely a perfect time to enjoy. The waitstaff is very friendly, helpful, and attentive. They really compliment the experience. The food tasted incredible. The food presentation is just as beautiful as the ambiance. I truly appreciate the entire staff for making my wife's birthday very special.

Updated review: We had Sunday brunch and enjoyed the experience immensely. We were promptly seated outside near a large heater, with expansive views of the beach and pier. We ordered the ABC Hash, Smoked Brisket Hash, and a Bacon Benny. Cappuccino, Hammerhead, and a Green Bloody Mary completed the meal. The ABC hash, standing for avocado, pork belly, and cheddar, was a surprisingly light tasting dish with a primary flavor of avocado. It needed more seasoning but improved with hot sauce. Everything was nicely cooked, it was just under seasoned. The smoked brisket hash was outstanding, with rich Smoky flavor and nicely seasoned potatoes. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly. The thick slice of rosemary sourdough toast was worth the extra $1.50. The star of the show was the bacon benny, with soft poached eggs, four slices of bacon and spears of asparagus under a pile of hollandaise. Accompanied by truffle fried potato balls which were soft and creamy inside, very tasty!! The garlic roasted tomato was the perfect extra touch. We all decided that's what we would get next time, or at least one of the Benny sandwiches anyway. It was a very nice experience, we all left with full bellies and smiles, promising to come back again soon. Highly recommended. Service was a little bit slow, but they told us from the outset that they were short staffed. It wasn't that slow and the service we received was perfect otherwise.

Messy sundae desert was delicious

We have been here a handful of times and every single time we love the food and we are always welcomed by staff with great hospitality and a wonderful atmosphere. Our server tonight, José, was so kind and attentive. He was funny and professional. We had a large group and he took the time to speak with each one of us and to be patient as we made our selections. We ate on the outside deck overlooking the ocean. There were several groups eating at the same time as us, but we felt like we were getting careful attention from start to finish. We ordered short ribs, Greek salad, Wagyu burgers, lettuce cups, and don't get me started on the delicious house made chicken strips with basil ranch! Truffle fries were excellent, thank you for the suggestion, José! Please stop by and enjoy delicious food, beautiful view, elegant setting and great service!

Ube Cheesecake

The view here is perfect, you can sit anywhere and still enjoy a clear view of the beach and pier, which is why I gave it 3 stars. The ube cheesecake was also amazing! Unfortunately, the service really brought the experience down. It wasn't busy at all, yet our waiter seemed to be avoiding our table. Every time he walked by, he looked down to avoid eye contact. He never refilled our drinks or checked in to see if we needed anything. With such a great location and good food, this place has so much potential but the service needs serious improvement. Please hire staff who actually want to be there and take care of their guests.

Parking is a bit rough since it's street parking only, but it's totally worth it. The outdoor patio is surrounded by lush greenery, making it feel cozy and tucked away. They have a good variety of both Mexican and American breakfast options, along with a lunch menu. Their coffee selection looked delicious, and we opted for the Horchata Latte and the Lavender Latte. The Horchata was a bit too sweet for my liking, but my friend LOVED it. I really enjoyed my Lavender Latte. She ordered the Florentine Egg Benedict and I had the chilaquiles. She said they were the best egg benedict she's ever had because they're served on focaccia bread. I really enjoyed my chilaquiles, especially the tangy salsa. The potatoes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. The service was good. Our server was attentive, checked on us throughout our meal, kept our water glasses full. It's a charming little brunch spot that is worth checking out if you are in IB.

For the coffee, I find this big and wide cup rather ostentatious for me just ordering regular coffee. That doesn't matter, but it does cool down too fast when I want to drink it slow. Also, the handle on it is too small for how big the cup is. It's unwieldy to drink. The eggs are fine. The potato and toast are both really plain. The potato has the most average texture and no seasoning at all. There's no jam, which is not an issue since I tend to devour toast as long as there's other food. But it doesn't even have a dab of butter on it either. It's truly just toast with nothing. And this is on top of my portabello really being more quinoa than anything else. So now I have quinoa, potato, and toast. No hot sauce either. I should've asked for a fruit cup or something instead of toast. I guess most people ordering this breakfast probably wouldn't want it to have a really strong flavor, so I'm in the minority. The quinoa also only has spinach. Not even a bit of tomato. Finally, I like my mushrooms hot and juicy. This portabella is kinda dry, deflated, and sad.

I also had a matcha ginger thyme latte with oat milk which was just tasty since ginger is a rare flavor in coffee drinks. I loved it, and it was so good that I took an extra one home. The service is amazing, and on busy days you may have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. If you have any questions about a dish, don't hesitate to ask!

She made us feel like we were in for a treat. Everything is fresh, nothing is microwaved, and by her account this was going to be a whole experience. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the sales pitch. Not even close. We started with the IB Twinkies, which are basically bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers stuffed with cream cheese. They were mid to mediocre at best. Think about the ingredients: Fresh jalapeño, bacon, cream cheese. That's already a winning combination. But there was some kind of ham or other meat stuffed inside that just got in the way. A good jalapeño popper doesn't need much. Give me the fresh crunchy heat of the jalapeño, salty crispy bacon, and cream cheese to mellow everything out. If you're going to make a jalapeño popper, just make a really good jalapeño popper. Next was the Scotty Doesn't Know smash burger. For around $15ish, this thing was SMALL. My friend and I split it and we're talking maybe three or four bites each. The spicy ranch was basically ranch and Tapatío, and the whole burger was just kind of... fine. Smash burgers work because of their simplicity. Crispy beef, cheese, bread, sauce, balance. Once you start complicating that, whatever you're adding better make the burger more interesting. This didn't. I wouldn't pay that price for it again. Sadly, the BBQ Chopped Cheese was the real offender. I don't know what this was, but it wasn't what I think of when someone says "chopped cheese." Instead of chopped hamburger and cheese, the meat had this weird thready pulled-pork or pulled-beef texture. There were large chunks of green bell pepper, an off-putting barbecue flavor, and then the entire thing was slathered in this cheese roux where I swear I could taste the flour. It was basically a pile of pulled meat, peppers and onions covered in floury cheese sauce. I couldn't get past one bite. Our waitress didn't ask us what our thoughts were. Mercifully. And that's ultimately my problem with the food here. If you're going to make classic dishes, make them outstanding. If you're going to play with expectations and reinvent something like a chopped cheese, make sure you've mastered what makes the original good before you start introducing new flavors and textures. The location is cool. It has that beachy, surf-bar vibe, you can see the ocean, and the service was stellar. I take nothing away from the atmosphere and our server. That's honestly what pulled this review up to three stars. But the food? Mediocre to gross and all things in between. And considering the four-and-a-half-star rating and the expectations we walked in with, genuinely disappointing. I don't blame the wait staff, and I don't blame the cooks in the back. I blame management or the owner. If THEY think those dishes are delicious, that's fine. I can't change someone's messed-up taste buds. But I CAN say, as someone who has eaten some of the BEST food San Diego has to offer, it's very easy to recognize what isn't. Fix the food and I'm SO down to give y'all another chance. https://www.youtube.com/@TheFoodSleuths_SD
