I've known and drove by this place dozens of times and finally tried them out. It is located in a tiny strip mall maybe only four businesses. Caliano was at the end. Outside the had a couple picnic tables and maybe inside for about 20 guest with a number of tables a couple tvs and a corner section with a couple Video game consoles. Simple and clean. They greeted my son and I when we entered and took our order quickly at the counter. We ordered the double cheese smashed burger, a cheese steak sandwich and an all meat pizza. My Don really loved the burger and it was smashed even the bun, lol. The cheese steak sandwich was great. Lots of meat and very balanced flavors. After we ate these we also started working on the pizza. It was alot for us and we ended up having left over pizza for the next day. The pizza was a New York style pizza and tasted like one as well. We got home and noticed the pizza was kinda burnt on the edges but decided to give it a try anyway. First bite and it tasted burnt/bitter. We looked at the bottom of multiple slices and they were all burnt and black. It was inedible. The top part with the cheese and sausage was good but the burnt taste was just too overpowering. We called them to let them know and the guy on the phone asked who the order was for and said "my coworker didn't think it was too burnt". Then he said they can remake it but in an hour because they were very busy. We were already about to arrive so we told them we were coming back right now. We got there and there's only 2 customers in the restaurant. The big guy with the glasses gives attitude right away, takes the pizza and inspects it and says "That's too burnt for you?" We say yes we can't eat it, doesn't taste good. Then we ask for it to be remade and he says it would take like 30-40 minutes to remake or he can give us a refund. We ask for a refund and my bf is telling him it's just not edible and he takes the pizza, goes to the back, and we see him throw it to the side where he wasn't visible anymore and it and it sounded like he punched it a few times. I was honestly kind of scared. I'm sad we had a bad experience because we love supporting small businesses but this was just so unprofessional and weird; he could've handled it differently, he could've gained business and a positive review. read more

I went in today to get a pizza, ordered it and had a slice while i was waiting, finished the slice i got and waited 10 more minutes after the fact and they hadn't even started making my whole pizza yet. I had to remind them of my order and that's when they started to finally make it. If someone ever told me that my favorite thing at a pizza place would be their burgers, I'd call them crazy. But man, this is the spot. I haven't had many smash burger style burgers before, so my experience is limited, but in my opinion Caliano Pizza has perfected the craft. Bun is perfect, the patty is smashed to crispy goodness, the cheese I usually opt for the deluxe burger as I enjoy the lettuce and tomatoes. We usually have them there, so I can't speak on whether or not the Patties will remain crispy if you take them home. The pizzas are good. New York style. Probably my favorite pizza spot in Chula Vista, though I'm still exploring the area. They also do pizzas by the slice if you want to fill your craving without committing to a whole pizza. My go to is the meat & co. The little shopping center isn't too busy, so I've never had issues with parking. I ordered a chopped cheese, and the wait time wasn't bad at all. When I picked up my order, they told me to have a good day, which was a nice touch. The chopped cheese itself was excellent, well cooked, perfectly seasoned, the bun toasted just right, veggies fresh and colorful, and the cheese melted perfectly. 2 stars and not 1 because the pizza & chopped cheese is so good. BUT, the customer service? HORRIBLE. It's happened twice already where they forgot our order. We called in one pizza. The guy had us repeat our name and our order multiple times. Then said "let me check how long it'll be" and said 30 minutes. Perfect. We get there & THEY FORGOT OUR ORDER. How?? All they said was "sorry" and we're going to put the pizza in, so another 20 minutes to sit and wait there. The first time, the guy seemed high or something, but definitely out of it. The second time we have no clue how they forgot to put our pizza in... but the customer service lacks at this place. We dropped by today at Caliano pizza. We ordered a whole pepperoni pizza and chopped cheese sandwich. The chopped cheese was good. A little bit salty and greasy. They should have put bell peppers. In it was fried ground beef, a slice tomato (they could've put more) , no chopped onions shredded lettuce and jarred chopped pepperoncini peppers. No sauce either on the sandwich. Please don't be shy in putting more condiments in a sandwich. I'm not going to order this again. I only wanted to try because I saw yelpers are saying it was deliciously good. I've been here so many times and don't quite understand why it's taken me so long to write a review. This place is awesome. Everything about it. The pizza's are perfect, gooey cheese with a nice crispy crust. Don't sleep on their burgers and salads too, also a great choice. The ambiance is great too. I've came in on a relaxing chill day and got to watch the Padres while enjoying some of my favorite Pizza. It also helps when the staff is super chill and friendly too.
