After a full day of walking, biking, and convincing myself I definitely wasn't tired, Millie's on Main hit the spot. My daughter ordered the burger, and it was a winner. The patty was juicy, the bun was soft and fluffy, and somehow she still managed to have room for dessert. Kids are magical like that. My husband and I both ordered the pan-fried whitefish because, come on... you're on Mackinac Island. You have to. The fish was fresh, flaky, and perfectly cooked with a light, crispy crust that let the flavor of the whitefish shine. Exactly what we were hoping for. The restaurant has a fun, laid-back atmosphere that feels like the perfect place to recharge before heading back out to explore the island. The service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh. If you're visiting Mackinac, don't overthink it. Order the whitefish, steal a fry from whoever you're eating with (it's vacation, calories are on island time), and enjoy a great meal. read more

It was surprisingly empty when we went in, perhaps because we were there between major meal times. But we were greeted, seated and then promptly ordered. Everyone was friendly, the restaurant and restroom was clean. The atmosphere felt very cozy, we had a seat by the window which was lovely for people watching although apparently people line up for the carriage ride right outside the window. We stopped by here on a weekend in the summer- we were able to get a table quickly and were just asked to wait outside for a couple minutes while they got our table ready. Our server was excellent- very thoughtful and attentive. We shared the soup of the day (chicken and wild rice) and fresh whitefish chowder. The chicken soup reminded me of a soup you have when you have a cold and make some fresh soup at home. The chowder did not have much of a fish flavor. Our entire table devoured the whipped goat cheese with pepper jam and the fried green beans, however, there were mixed reviews on the beef pastie. All in all we really enjoyed our meal here; it was the perfect casual stop for us on our trip. read more

Millie's is one of those restaurants that has something for everyone, and will appease everyone, but to be honest, I forgot what we ordered and ate as soon as we left. I had to look at my photos in order to remember our meal. That's not to say it was bad. Not at all! Just that the only thing I remember is that the prices are slightly higher than I think they should be. (Although, that seems to be the case at every restaurant on Mackinac Island. They have you trapped, and they know it.) We started with the smoked whitefish dip, which is a popular thing in this part of Michigan. It came piping hot with melted cheese on it, and served with crispy pita chips and crostini. I'm glad I tried it! I love me a good meatloaf sandwich, so when I saw meatloaf sliders in the menu, I had to get them. These sliders are made with pretzel buns, which are not my favorite because I feel like they're never soft enough. A nice white bun would have been so much better. I got a side Caesar salad, and it was fine. We also ordered a chicken tenders basket, the Low Carb Platter (just a cheeseburger without a bun and a side of cottage cheese), and a kids' cheeseburger. They do have a kids menu here -- just ask. Millie's gets very busy! We had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table. But it's centrally located in the middle of downtown Mackinac, so I wouldn't expect anything less. read more

We checked out Millie's on Main for lunch at the recommendation of a staff member (and year-round resident) at Hotel Iroquois. A great spot, located right where visitors board for the public carriage tours! We stopped in around 12pm and by the time we left, every table was filled. Our party enjoyed a beautiful kale salmon salad, delicious and slightly spicy whitefish tacos with mango salsa, and a pasty with coleslaw and gravy. If I were to go there again, I would definitely get the pasty, hands down. read more

This was a great place to take a break mid Mackinac Island day. We started with blueberry lemon drops and sangria and they were delicious but I did miss having sugar rim on my lemon drop. Next we shared 2 entrees - the fish and chips and the yooper beef pastie which I've never even heard before and had to try because "when in Rome".... They were both delicious. The fish was crispy and not heavily greasy. The fries were hot and fresh. And the pastie....wow! Just delicious. We all thought the tarter sauce was amazing also. Millie's was absolutely packed. It would be a great bar scene. The food scene to me was meh - typical pub food. Had the fish and chips. They provide an overwhelming amount of fries. So many that they obviously are cold by the time you get thru half. The fish itself was a white fish straight from the lake. I mentioned I don't really like white fish and the server said this isn't like east coast white fish so I gave it a go. It was so greasy. I could barely taste the fish but def could taste the grease. Not sure about the coleslaw just wasn't for me. Loved the tartar sauce. The servers were friendly and loved our server. read more

Our grand dog's name is Millie and she is a black dog so, of course, we had to stop and check this place out. It's a bar/restaurant and since we weren't hungry, we just bellied up to the bar for a beer. They didn't have their name brand beer on tap (they were out), so that was a bummer. We always go to Millie's when on Mackinac. It's an unassuming place, but the food is fantastic. My husband and I both had the NY strip. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked just the way we liked it. The dinner comes with some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. Even the vegetable side was good. They do have a good kids menu and my son loved the grilled cheese. My husband said smash burger was delicious but I had the Pasty. The meat was dry inside and the pastry was very doughy not at all flakey in texture. Ambiance was fine, service was not slow or anything bad just that our waitress asked how things were right around the time we had completed eating. My husband and I did a little DIY northern Michigan food tour at Millie's. The whitefish dip was good, though the dipping items were lackluster. The garlic bread tasted pretty stale and the pita chips were store bought (standard in Mackinac though). The whitefish was good, but the standout of the meal was the pasty. Theirs is a true dinner entree compared to the handheld pasties we've had before. The gravy, the crust, and the filling were all fantastic. Great service and cozy atmosphere. read more

Loving the vibe here. A lot of great food for great price. We were so mad that we couldn't finish all of it. Service was fantastic and we sat next to the window which made for some excellent people watching. Dinner and a show. Meatloaf was just like grandma's but with a nice crispiness to the edges. Served with mash potatoes-delicious and coleslaw done right. I'm surprised at how many places put way too much Mayo in their coleslaw but Millie's knows how to find the right balance. Pasta Alfredo with chicken. Better than the Olive Garden and on the boarder of too much season(I know)! Still really delicious and I would highly recommend. Came here for dinner and enjoyed our experience. The good: + The best classic old fashioned that we've had on island. It was spot on perfect. + Their truffle fries were crispy and delicious + The service was amazing--truly phenomenal + I got a caesar salad with salmon and it included a large piece of salmon that was grilled to a slightly charred perfection The less than ideal: + The irish coffee is just ok. Not sure if the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco has spoiled me for all other irish coffees but the one here is a solid ok + The bleu cheese truffle fries are truffle fries with a small dish of bleu cheese dressing served with it. It just wasn't what I was expecting. I do like bleu cheese dressing, but I was expecting something a bit more (bleu cheese crumbles on the fries, maybe?) Overall, a positive experience, though! And, by all means, if you're looking for the best old fashioned on the island--this might well be it. Get to it! read more

Attempted to walk in the door with my dog because it says "dog friendly" online. Was met with multiple rude servers saying the place is "not dog friendly" then complained "your dog stepped on my foot" in a thick accent. Just rude people. I can hardly imagine how rude the service is. read more

I'd like to give this place 3.5 stars, but since Yelp doesn't do half stars, rounding down to 3. My mom and I both got the "Unplanked Whitefish": the dark fatty part of the broiled whitefish tasted a little fishy, but I liked the seasoning they used. The duchess potatoes were good - I liked the crusty part on top, and I also enjoyed the crunchy Parmesan topping on the tomato. The green beans and red peppers on the side were good, as they were not too greasy or salty. My dad got the pan fried perch: it was lightly breaded and not too greasy or salty, just like it should be. My brother got the beef pastie, which was delicious, like a beef pot pie. We shared a cherry cobbler for dessert: I appreciated the fresh whipped cream on top and the nice warm pie crust layer. However, underneath it had canned cherry pie filling, which was just okay. This place overall was good, but in my opinion, not as spectacular as I expected based on the reviews I read on here before coming. read more

I don't often give out 5 stars but in this case, it was worth it. We arrived on Oct 14 and chose Millie's to have dinner at as it had good reviews and was a short distance from our hotel. Our server, Bob, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. 5 stars. I ordered the Neptune Pasta. The texture was on point, not too creamy, perfectly cheesy, and had a good number of tasty shrimp and scallops. The French beans were crisp and tender all at the same time. Hubbie ordered the NY strip with mushrooms. It came out a perfect medium rare. And the garlic mashed potatoes were so flavorful. You could really taste the garlic. We also ordered the cherry cobbler... And ate every last crumb! Food - 5 stars. Oh and btw, the food came out lickety split! Other: 1. Not too large of a place. A few booths... More tables... Bar. Tasteful decor. 2. They said they were closing that weekend, earlier than many of the other establishments on the island. So I'm glad we were able to dine with them before they did. read more
