It was probably the best decision I made on this trip. I'm ranking it among the five best we've dined at--and that includes some famous restaurants in New Orleans, Memphis, Louisville, Albuquerque, Kansas City, and New York City, not to mention the nationally acclaimed crab shack we found in rural Delaware. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was the consummate professional. She promptly greeted us and took our drink order shortly after we arrived. Unfortunately the bar was out of one of the essential ingredients for the drink my companion ordered but the other "Old Fashioned" options were fine and he eventually ordered a second. My "007" Martini was also quite good. The starter menu was amazing. I went with one of my favorites -- if prepared well -- beef carpaccio, and it didn't disappoint. Micro-thin slices of raw beef topped with arugula, parmigiana reggiano, and a light dressing was the perfect start to the evening. My companion ordered gazpacho which he reports was excellent. I didn't plan on it at first, but I decided to order a whitefish dinner for the second day in a row. Instead of a sandwich, this time the entree was a beautifully planked whitefish filet with duchess potatoes and roasted asparagus spears. The fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The potatoes were outstanding. A few of the asparagus spears were not perfectly trimmed at the base, but overall they were fine. My companion ordered perch filets with a side of creamed spinach. I tasted the spinach and it was probably the best I've ever tasted. He gobbled it down. After a meal like that we had to have some dessert. We went with their crème brûlée -- a rather standard option-- but executed perfectly and with a generous pour of a single malt Scotch whisky it was a wonderful finish to an outstanding meal. There are lots of choices when it comes to dining on the Island (and I tried a few of them on a previous trip) but this is one I'd come back to again and again.

Cannonball serves class American comfort foods such as fries, hamburgers, pretzels, corndogs, ice cream, and even fried pickles. My go-to is a corndog and fried pickles - biking 8 miles works up an appetite. Always been happy with my food. There is an order window to the right and pick-up window to the left. Staff are friendly and helpful. The time of waiting in line to getting food is efficient. Is it a little pricey? Of course, again, it is the only place to get food on that side of the Island. When I went to order the chef's paring I was told the whole table had to do so. Even though I was told everything was fresh and prepared in house. The waiter pointed to the menu and it was presented differently from the menu which seemed a little sketchy especially for $125 per person. So to be clear if your whole table orders the chef's tasting you're good. If not, no bueno. The main courses were good. The sea bass was really good. The dry aged steak was well seasoned and even though I like things a little more rare some spots were purple. My son got the wagyu which was ordered medium and was closer to rare. The potatoes were amazing and so was the sauce. All and all 1/2 the servers were good and came to check on us. The main courses beef and sea bass and beet salad were pretty tasty and good. Prices aren't terrible for a tourist trap. The GM kept checking on us. In the end we got 2 desserts the apple and the opera cake both were outstanding. The had a piano player was excellent and made for a nice ambience. I think there were some really new people that weren't really sure on what to do or about customer service. The Bartender seemed very frustrated, almost like it was his first night. The hostess was completely lost and in over her head.
