The only place to get food when biking on the other side of the Island! A monopoly of sorts but, hey, stopping at Cannonball is nostalgic and a must. Once you start seeing the British Landing signs, you know that you are close to a treat and food refuel. This area on your stop is worth it. There is a small nature area that has bathrooms indoor. Nice views of the water and areas of history to read about. Ton of places to park your bike. Cannonball serves class American comfort foods such as fries, hamburgers, pretzels, corndogs, ice cream, and even fried pickles. My go-to is a corndog and fried pickles - biking 8 miles works up an appetite. Always been happy with my food. There is an order window to the right and pick-up window to the left. Staff are friendly and helpful. The time of waiting in line to getting food is efficient. Is it a little pricey? Of course, again, it is the only place to get food on that side of the Island. On our visit to Mackinac Island we had to bike to the back of the island and get the Southwest Chicken Sandwich so my sister would stop talking about "THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH!" she has ever eaten...The Cannonball Oasis is a little food stand located at British Landing along historic M185 (the outer island loop). Seating is outdoor only. There are picnic tables in the shade and in the sun to sit and enjoy a beautiful view of the Mackinac Bridge. The stand also has ice cream and cold drinks along with other food stand menu items like hamburgers, chicken strips, and my son's favorite fried pickles. But the Southwest Chicken Sandwich was worth the pedal and lived up to my sister's rave reviews. The service was fast and friendly. We ordered 14 of the chicken sandwich baskets and they got them out to us surprisingly quick. This little food stand will make the top 5 must- do list from now on for every trip we make to visit Mackinac Island. read more

So you've just biked about 1/3 to 2/3rds around Mackinac Island. You're hot, and maybe a bit thirsty or hungry. The Cannonball is there. It's a little shack out on British Landing that has the most spectacular beachfront view, nice shady forest, and some picnic tables. Great place to stop for bit of lunch if you like simple fare like burgers and the like, or to get a shake or slush. The deep fried pickle is their "world renowned" item, and I have to say it was pretty darn good. Cut in spears, breaded with a nice crisp seasoned crumb crust and a pickle that wasn't too salty or sour that was equally crisp. Sometimes joints like this rely on being the only game in town. This one seems to remember that quality and service count. They have evening hayrides with a barbecue dinner (ribs and chicken) which you can book as well. read more

The location is beyond beautiful. By the time you arrive at the packed gravel patio that fronts the cannonball you have most certainly experienced one of the most "Pure Michigan" landscapes. Even on one of the busiest weekends of the year (Labor Day) there is ample seating, and more than enough beach to go around. The food is typical of a concession stand. You will not experience a culinary revolution here, unless your gentle palette has never indulged in the savory sensation that is the hot dog. The demand is high as is the volume of customers, you will wait a few minutes. This should not surprise you, this place is so far off the beaten path that Tom Hanks and Wilson ate here on Sundays (those scenes were cut to shorten the movie). Bathrooms and walking trails surround the stand. Be sure to checkout their poison ivy display, you may get a chance to bring some of the island home with you. read more

Quick cheap respite on British Landing, Mackinac Island. It's the northern most rest stop on the island and far from the crowds around the dock. This much welcome stop offers Hot Dogs, hamburgers, cheese sticks, shakes, sodas, snacks and ice cream cones. There is no indoor, as this is a walk up window were you place your order and wait for it to arrive at the next window. The food is ok. The burger was big and double patties was very filling, though they didn't time the cheese sticks and fries to be done with it. They were cold and hard while the burger was hot and juicy. I also had a corn dog that comes with either ketchup or mustard cup. It was sufficient but no where as large as the previous Yelp pic post. The shake was tasty and easy to drink. More like melted ice cream than a shake. What was the most enjoyed was the coke. After biking many of the hills of the central island for hours, I didn't realize we needed the sugar more ham our water bottles at that point. It was like the elixir of Life! Mind you, we shared a medium. It was small but enough. The refreshment got us the remaining 4.5 miles around the coast. This stop also is at a beach, with shady picnic tables and seagulls looking for a bite. Remember to pickup your trash and park your bike appropriately. read more

Ok! Wow these place is the only food on the path that's not Main Street so they get more business then they can handle but I'd say keep riding and find something in town. Food isn't good and service is worse. They don't honor the yelp coupon upon check in and give you attitude when you try to claim it. They got our order wrong forgot one of our corn dogs and said I didn't order that many it says on the recipient and showed me. I said I told you 3 and only got 2 so she typed it in wrong no big deal I just need another. And they seemed irritated with me at that point and said well your going to have to pay for it. I replied I have no problem with that I'm just trying to feed my kids. I would definitely not come back here, normally I give places a second chance but when I get treated this badly and foods not good anyways it's not worth another headache on a fun day. read more

This place is approximately 1/2 way around the island and there is a shortcut back to the mainland from here. You can also enjoy, a fried pickle, cheese sticks, flies among other things. My wife and rode 11 miles then stopped in for burgers. Just awesome! Great beef flavor and fresh ingredients. There is something very satisfying about being able to eat a lick-your-fingers burger after a long ride. We met the owner and he gave a us a great overview of Mackinac while we ate. What an awesome spot! We were making the 8 mile bike trip around the island (highly recommend) and we stopped here for lunch. My family and I stopped to eat there while biking around the island based on all the rave reviews here on yelp. It was somewhat disappointing, to say the least. I had the coney special which consisted of low grade hot dogs on cheap buns with only canned chili and fries that obviously weren't made to order. Cannonball is a small fast food cafe on the island far from the main street. You will see it if you walk or bike around the island. They have all the basic items in their menu like chicken nuggets, hot dogs, french fries, ice cream etc. It is very convenient because there is no other restaurant in that area. There are benches outside where you can sit and enjoy your food. It is good if you are tired from all the walking and need a quick bite to eat. I will not go here otherwise. There are plenty of good restaurants on the island that serve better food that Cannonball. read more

When we visit Mackinac we bike the island everyday, but we always plan one ride to take it really slowly, stopping everywhere, and we have lunch at the Cannonball. Its' nostalgic simplicity is a perfect fit. This year my family also did the Hayride BBQ. The wagon picks you up in town for a casual evening ride out to the cannonball. We brought wine and were having a blast before even getting to the Cannonball! Upon arrival, tables are set and bbq chicken and ribs are served, along with the classic summer sides-corn on the cob, potato salad, buns and topped off with a sundae. The ride back to town takes you up and over the island, passing by the cemeteries at dusk, and nearing town you get the most amazing night view over the top of the city! Our entire party, aged 7 to 70+ all really loved the Hayride BBQ! read more

We stopped here around 11:30am on a Tuesday during our bike ride around the perimeter of the island. This little stand is located at British Landing (so about half way around the island if you start in Downtown). We ordered the fried pickles and chili cheese fries. The fried pickles were good. The chili cheese fries were ok, but the "cheese" on it was weird. Look I know most chili cheese fries (or just cheese fries) are served using liquid cheese. I know it's horrible for you, but usually it's really good. This cheese on their fries was odd, in color, flavor, and texture. The chili was good though. The fries weren't horrible, just odd. Not sure what was going on with that cheese. The two items cost a total of $9, which is too expensive. I believe the fried pickles were $4.75? The chili cheese fries were $3 something. I really can't remember, but I know the total was around $9. Way too expensive for what you get. Next time, just pick something to go up from Doud's Market when you rent your bikes in town and take it with you instead of stopping here for food. read more

I live here in the summer and I absolutely refuse to give this owner any business at anybody his shops. He is ALWAYS rude and acting like he's better than everyone! Now let's get to my story about MY experience at The Cannonball! It's in a great location because after going for a long ride around the island you really want something to drink, and possibly something to eat or ice cream! My friend and I stopped off there on our way around and we had an empty bottle to throw out. So we threw our empty bottle out, planned on taking a walk down to beach and then walking back up to buy something to drink and ice cream to eat in the shade. As soon as we threw our bottle away and started walking towards the beach, the owner came running after us and yelling at us, saying that ONLY paying customers can throw out garbage in his trash and next time we better walk across the road and use the state park trash. Needless to say, even though we planned on being paying customers, he lost our business after that little scenario! I honestly couldn't believe an owner would treat people like that because he literally had no way of knowing if we were going to buy something or not at that point! Also with all the state park trash cans that are around his little business you know he gets away without having to pay for as many trash bags as he probably would have to if the state park didn't have cans around there! So there really is no need to be greedy! Also, the food is very mediocre! read more

Chocolate vanilla swirl ice cream cones halfway through our trip around the island couldn't be better. Tons of picnic tables, beautiful views, and super friendly staff. My three year old's ice cream cone top toppled off the cone about two licks in, and the gracious staff gave him a new one without hesitation.
