The staff was friendly and patient as we asked questions and made our small selection. Located directly on Main Street- you won't miss it! (Ice cream in the backyard of the parlor)

(Is that a cliche? It should be.) And if you don't like fudge or ice cream? Well, you're S.O.L., my friend. Luckily, my kids like ice cream, so we headed to Sanders because it was basically across the street from our hotel. They got a milkshake and a scoop of chocolate ice cream in a cup (their standard orders), and they were happy with their treats. But if you're looking for some other kinds of ice cream treats, they also have sundaes and things of that nature. Sanders also has a whole case of chocolate goodies, like peanut clusters, coconut clusters and pecan clusters (they seem to like their clusters here); chocolate-covered Rice Krispie Treats; truffles and peanut butter cups and toffee; caramel apples; and lots more. Oh, and fudge. But honestly, I would get fudge somewhere else that isn't a chain. There are lots of fudge places on the island. That's the thing: Sanders is a chain. But it's a Michigan chain, and originated in Detroit, so it's kinda local. Nevertheless, it's a good place to pop into to find something sweet to eat.

Secondly, they do not offer any smaller sizes of each flavor, only a giant slice of something you don't even know if you're going to like because .... they don't offer samples. And thirdly, the workers are beyond rude. I get the fact that you deal with hundreds upon hundreds of people a day but you need to realize that for each one of us, this is an experience we have been eagerly anticipating. So reluctantly,I purchased three giant slices because they had a buy 2 get a 3rd half off deal. The fourth disappointment came when I tasted it, it was so dry that I regretted buying them. I gave them 2 stars instead of one because I did enjoy watching them make the fudge, that was interesting.

There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

The Best Fudge AND The Best Customer Service! First of…read moreall... Ruba's Fudge is the BEST fudge ever! It's rich, smooth, creamy, and absolutely delicious. I love all the flavors, and honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite! I bought several boxes earlier this year to take with me on my Alaskan cruise for a candy gift exchange. I froze the fudge without the boxes and carefully put the boxes away so I could repackage everything when it was time to give them as gifts. Well...fast forward to getting ready for my cruise, and I couldn't find the boxes! PANIC! My husband called Ruba's and explained what I was doing with the fudge and asked if we could purchase replacement boxes and have them overnighted. Thankfully, I found the boxes shortly afterward, so he called back before they shipped. But here's the part that really impressed me... They were going to send the boxes to us FREE OF CHARGE anyway! They didn't have to do that, but they were more than happy to help make sure I could give these little Mackinac Island treats as gifts on my cruise. So not only does Ruba's have the best fudge on Mackinac Island, but they also have the BEST customer service! And let's be honest--their adorable little boxes make the perfect gift, too! If you're visiting Mackinac Island, Ruba's Fudge is a MUST! Buy some for yourself, buy some for your family, and definitely buy some to take home as gifts. You won't be disappointed! Best fudge. Best customer service. Cutest boxes. What more could you ask for?

She said the vegan fudge was really good and my favorite was the chocolate peanut butter. The cherry was a close second! They have plenty of flavors to choose from and you really can't go wrong.
