So we were staying on the property and my wife was not really into the place (I should have gone with her intuition). We arrived early and were greeted pleasantly and were told to have a seat in the lounge so we did the restaurant was less than 1/4 full. We were handed 3 menus one was an appetizer menu. After waiting for some time and standing at the bar we were told we could only order drinks. So we went with it. At 7:28 I went back to the host stand where I where I waited for about 5 minutes finally the hostess reappeared and had no idea. So she seated us in the nose bleed section instead of offering us one of the really nice views. Then the real fun started... nothing for my 8 year old son. We were told we can't do anything for kids the suggestion was crab legs (wow). So he ordered a "Chianti signature Caesar" thinking it's pretty hard to mess up a Caesar Salad (was I wrong). It was dried out and the very bottom of the Roman almost at the base, if not the base. The dressing lacked flavor. On top of that the waiter never asked my son what he wanted to drink. My wife had the beet salad and she said it was good. When seated the waiter told us about the chef parring and I was kinda excited to try a few different things. When I went to order the chef's paring I was told the whole table had to do so. Even though I was told everything was fresh and prepared in house. The waiter pointed to the menu and it was presented differently from the menu which seemed a little sketchy especially for $125 per person. So to be clear if your whole table orders the chef's tasting you're good. If not, no bueno. The main courses were good. The sea bass was really good. The dry aged steak was well seasoned and even though I like things a little more rare some spots were purple. My son got the wagyu which was ordered medium and was closer to rare. The potatoes were amazing and so was the sauce. All and all 1/2 the servers were good and came to check on us. The main courses beef and sea bass and beet salad were pretty tasty and good. Prices aren't terrible for a tourist trap. The GM kept checking on us. In the end we got 2 desserts the apple and the opera cake both were outstanding. The had a piano player was excellent and made for a nice ambience. I think there were some really new people that weren't really sure on what to do or about customer service. The Bartender seemed very frustrated, almost like it was his first night. The hostess was completely lost and in over her head. We had a lovely dinner here for our ten year wedding anniversary. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and the service and food was exceptional. A minor complaint: the dining room is VAST with high ceilings and a mezzanine of circulation from the main hotel, so a lot of people pass by and look down on the dining area, creating a less than intimate feel for a fine dining meal. This is our first trip to Macinac, staying at Mission Point. We made reservations in advance of our visit, knowing that we'd like a nice, slow paced dinner after a long trip to get there. This was a great choice! The price is not for the faint of heart-it's fixed price , I believe $125, for four courses and dessert. This doesn't include beverages. There is a pairing of wines available, which some of us chose. It was nice to have a taste of a carefully chosen companion wine to the food . Service is excellent, great pianist in the background. This is definitely a quality, not quantity restaurant, aimed at delighting the senses-great view. We have gone there several times in the past and always enjoyed it but this time we were disappointed in the food. The butter lettuce salad had only a few butter lettuce leaves and the rest was flower petals and herbs. The dressing was bland, needed salt. I could not finish the salad it was bitter and unappetizing. The asparagus appetizer was paired with what I think was a pesto sauce and wrapped in seaweed. It had a peculiar taste to it. The portion of walleye was very small and sprinkled with flower petals and a sauce. The flavor combination was different and masked the flavor of the fish. We also wish that they serve bread with the meal. We like the venue very much and hope that they can make some adjustments to the menu. Service was excellent and pleasant. read more

Lovely experience. We came in on a very rainy evening celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary and happened to be lucky enough to get a table! We had a divine meal of 4 courses and it was so nice to be able to try so many dishes and flavors. The meal started with an amuse bouche, which was very interesting- liver with a candied blueberry. It tasted really good but I didn't love the aftertaste of the liver. We started with the scallops, which were amazing and also beef carpaccio, which came with pine nuts and shaved Parmesan. We then had Caesar salads, which were enjoyable but not amazing. Next was a pasta course- I did the duck confit gnocchi and my wife had the squid ink pasta- very nice. Both delicious. The clams in the squid ink pasta were expertly cooked! We had venison and whitefish for our main course. The whitefish was nicely cooked with a tasty cream sauce, but the star was the venison! It was so tender and flavorful, the parsnip purée was rich and sweet- I would eat that every day of my life forever if I could! For dessert we did the flourless chocolate cake with earl grey ice cream? Which sounds like an odd pairing but it was super delicious. We also had a lemon meringue tart which was also quite good and refreshing after the chocolate. 10 really enjoyable courses. You could tell the chef put a ton of effort and thought into the way the meal was prepared. The service was also impeccable. Although it was an expensive meal, I can't recommend it enough! read more

PURE MAGIC. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner, and we were so charmed. We chose to add the first tier (read: cheapest) wine pairing, we were doubtful but willing to try and it added so much to the experience. Every course was outstanding, but my husband's lobster bisque as his second course choice bears special mention, as did the rabbit gnocchi which we both chose for the third course- it was actually mind blowing. The closest thing to a religious experience I could have with food, it was that incredible. The rabbit was shredded and coated in an amazingly flavorful sauce, the gnocchi was perfection in both texture and flavor. The wine pairing was equally strong- on its own I didn't love it, but paired with that course it was incredible! My husband got the prosciutto wrapped veal as his fourth course, I got the prime beef tenderloin. We were afraid anything would be disappointing following that gnocchi, but both dishes and their wine pairings amazingly held up and continued the excellence. For dessert he had the apple pie, I got the chocolate torte (pictured). Both were rich and amazing and incredible, and their dessert wine pairings were the perfect complement. The apple pie had the perfect balance of apple and cinnamon and white chocolate with a rich shortbread base, and the presentation couldn't be beat. The torte was rich chocolate heaven- it somehow paired perfectly with the meringue it was served with, not too dark or bitter compared to it. Our waiter, Basil, also deserves special mention, for both his impeccable serving and his beautiful voice- he serenaded us for our anniversary, and we were lucky enough to hear him serenade a fellow patron for her birthday as well. He has won talent competitions with that voice, and you can tell! Our sommelier, Nenad, was so knowledgeable and friendly as well, he really helped us to appreciate our wine pairings and he genuinely enjoyed doing so. It showed! They both took the already wonderful meal over the top to make it pure magic- we were walking back to our B&B discussing how amazing the night was. We had the most spectacular wedding anniversary meal here a few weeks ago! It was our first time at Mission Point (and on the island, in general) so we were anxiously anticipating our meal at Chianti! The meal was off to a great start when we were brought complimentary glasses of prosecco and fresh bread with balsamic vinegar and oil for dipping! But if we thought that was yummy, we had no idea how amazing dinner was going to be! I ordered the scallops with tomato risotto and grilled asparagus. Oh. My. Heart. This was the best meal I have ever had. Hands down. The scallops were seared to perfection and the risotto was the stuff of dreams. My husband ordered the bone in ribeye with confit potatoes and grilled asparagus. His was equally as heavenly and delectable!! Side note: I could easily eat a truck load of those potatoes. DROOL. We were on Mackinaw Island for a weekend and were trying to get to the best 10 places during our short visit. Pink Pony fit our taste just fine which is all American fine dining experience. We were now looking for something more intimate, romantic aka Italian. Chianti is walkable from downtown and def was an option we were willing to check out. They serve dinner 5-9. We walked to the hotel bar for drinks first. The resort gallery has many fireplaces and a decent book collection to chat and read as you sip onto your cocktails. Interiors are warm vintage. We got to the dining room around 7. Live piano music, charming lakeview of the sun kissing the glittering fresh water and intimate ambience- couldnt ask for more! We ordered a bottle of Pinot. I had their whitefish and hubby got himself the traditional chicken lasagna. The fish was fresh and melted in my mouth. I would rate it close to a 4/5. The chicken was flavorful but somewhat dry- could def use some more sauce - prob more like a 3/5. The service is top notch. Extremely courteous staff. I picked this location on a whim for my 5 year anniversary because it was in the edge of the island, had waterfront views, a nice menu and they took reservations. I cannot express what a marvelous choice we made. The view from the table where we sat outside was phenomenal of the lake. Although it's a bit further out of the way from most of the other spots, it's well worth the walk, even if it is a bit confusing to get to once you make it to mission point - for reference we stayed at the grand hotel. It was an easy walk but did take some time. We were greeted with complimentary prosecco after being seated, which was a nice treat! We ordered the minestrone soup, and zuppa toscana - both delicious, although I preferred the minestrone. Each had a glass of the mission point Pinot Noir (wow!) and then for entrees we ordered the sated whitefish, and eggplant Parmesan (paparadelle w/bolognese instead of spaghetti/marinara). Everything we had was absolutely delicious!Portions were quite generous and we had plenty to take home, plus Basil, our server even sang for the table! Very, very impressive food for an island in the middle of northern Lake Huron. The mussels appetizer was delicious and very large. And, unlike a lot of mussel dishes, they were not over-cooked. The grilled bone marrow appetizer was very tasty. Yes, it's fatty, but you only live once. Crab cakes, prime ribeye, bolognese pasta, rack of lamb, raviolis, etc. were all exquisitely prepared and presented and delicious. The tiramisu dessert finished the night off the perfect way. If at all possible, sit outside in a table that overlooks the lake. It's hard to beat that. read more

Hopefully the restaurant's name does not make you think of "Silence of the Lambs (of course that was the first thing I thought)." Thankfully there were no fava beans--or cannibals--present when we dined at Chianti. Let's ignore the prices as everything on Mackinac Island is expensive and frankly these prices are pretty much standard fare for dinner at a white tablecloth restaurant anywhere in 49757. What you won't get anywhere else is a live piano player and a nice, relaxing atmosphere after a long day of dodging horse muffins and tandem bikes down on Main Street. There is a nice view from the windows and staff did not seem at all annoyed that we came 30 minutes before close. In fact, even the people that came at 8:55 were seated and attended to without any hesitation. Dinner started with some tasty bread and a small booze drink--don't ask me what, I don't drink--while I had the duck breast special as my main course. It was excellent and filling; I didn't even need the steak knife Mervin brought over. Speaking of Mervin, the service was great. It was attentive without being hover-y and other staff came by often to refill water. Mom enjoyed both her Caesar Salad and her Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. The Island Punch drink I ordered for her also went over well, so give that a try. read more

The main restaurant at the Mission Point Resort is called Chianti. The service at Chianti is truly attentive, polite, and friendly. We received many complimentary extras while we dined there - glasses of champagne, focaccia bread with garlic and olive oil, ice cream sundaes for the kids - all delivered with a genuine friendliness from the wait staff. I really enjoyed the fettucine alfredo with wild mushrooms in a parmesan cream sauce, which was not quite as heavy as most alfredo sauces. I also must give a shout-out to the island punch. We ordered the Caesar salad and sumner chopped salad and for main dishes we ordered the chicken parmigiana which was probably the best I ever had. My husband and I recently stayed at Mission Point Resort for a long weekend. Chianti is their upscale restaurant, located away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. I booked in advance on OpenTable, which is so convenient! We ate there at about 6:30 on a Saturday evening, and it wasn't too busy at all, but this is likely because we visited during the early season on the island. The food was fantastic! I had the seared whitefish, which was breaded in a Tuscan crust. It was not at all greasy and had a great flavor! With my entree came seared kale and a lemon risotto, and both were excellent. Literally no complaints! My husband had the filet, which came with potatoes and asparagus. He said it was one of the best steaks he's had. (I'm not a red meat eater, so I'll trust him on this one!) Because we were visiting for his birthday, we had the creme brulee for dessert, which was perfect! The service was also top-notch! Our server was very attentive and we never waited for anything. The view is so beautiful - had it been warmer, we would have taken advantage of the outdoor seating. My wife and I had reservations at another local restaurant...but, "carriage-loads" of 3rd graders made the chance for a secluded, quiet and wonderful 30th wedding anniversary dinner impossible. So, I had remembered seeing Chianti as one of my options weeks ago and a quick phone call confirmed we could eat there. From the moment we walked in we knew that we made the right decision. We were greeted at the host stand, ushered to our table and spent the next 2 hours enjoying a fabulous meal staring at the water and freighters leaving the channel. I had the rib-eye...fabulous. Well, this restaurant really worked out for us on our trip. We got a SUPER DEAL on our stay on the Island which included dinner at this establishment. It's fancier but we still brought our 10 month old and got an early dinner. The service btw was excellent. From the start, you can tell these waiters (mostly Jamaican) were fantastic. I order the Rib eye, so did my mother-in-law and it was large. They don't skimp on that plate. I thought because of the price, it would be the size of a pencil eraser but no...it was large. My father in law got the Filet Mignon and it was a good size too. Our deal came with two bottles of the house wine, which were also good. As apps we ordered some arrincini, calimari, and I got the mussels. We left with 0 complaints! Obviously it would be hard to do this dinner on the regular due to the price or without the deal we got but...we definitely enjoyed it. read more

Amazing food and service. The hotel's specially made wines are smooth and delicious. We had the Pinot noir with our dinner. It is come as you are and we came dressed up sitting next to a couple of gentlemen in sweatshirts and shorts, hitting on the ladies at the table on our other side...so free entertainment was included. Hubby had the duck from their fall menu and I had the lamb. Both were amazing. The duck skin was so perfectly crisp and maybe the only time I ever enjoyed duck skin. We had Creme brûlée fur dessert. Hubby, who doesn't normally like this dessert was in love with the texture. I always like Creme brûlée but was particularly impressed Witt their approach to the sugar topping. Always greatly satisfied with our annual visits to Chianti. It is head and shoulders above the places downtown: both the food and the service. I far prefer it to dinner at the Grand Hotel (which is a bit of a cattle call). Much of this is down to the maitre d', a man who has mastered being formal AND kind, which is a rare combination. The service is top-notch; the best you'll get anywhere. It is a place you can really relax. Our cake was iced when the chef came out to introduce himself and see if everything was ok; he even explained the arduous process of making arancini. After the terrible dinner last night, I was a bit shy in suggesting thee Chianti. But we walked down there anyways....it's a bit outside of the main part of town, and the resort is huge! I was turned off before we even entered. The place seemed so corporate. However......please read on. We were met at the Chianti by a great host who kidded us from the beginning. He told us that without reservations he couldn't seat us.....obviously a joke. We were seated on the terrace....I had no idea that we would be overlooking the water....and it was absolutely beautiful. The water was just so calm. Our waiter was Mervin. He started out a bit serious, but ended up so much fun. We had the early bird dinner which was a choice of salad/soup and entree and a glass of wine. Did I mention that I had the best martini ever before dinner. Just excellent. I had the Italian salad, and the pasta with chicken and shrimp. My husband had the pork tenderloin and the Caesar salad. My salad was so good. Great presentation. And light. My dinner was also excellent. The vodka sauce was light but had great flavor. The pasta was fresh and excellent. Dinner was beautiful. Have to give a shout out to Mervin. He was one of those waiters who made the dinner complete. This is a bit of a walk, but really, Highly recommend. I really don't think you will be disappointed. Chianti is worth every penny and deserves five stars. I went here for a formal dinner while on the island and was not disappointed. Service: The service was what sets Chianti apart. We were seated at our table during a bit of a dinner rush and after 20 minutes without seeing a server, we realized we had been forgotten. I notified a waiter who then had the General Manager come who was extremely apologetic. He then had his head waiter "Vassel" take care of us. Vassel was informative, attentive and very pleasant to talk to. He gave us five star service and we will ask for him by name when we return. Ambiance: The restaurant is located inside the resort. The resort is decorated in a way that is beautiful but slightly ambigious. I grew up in CO and thought that it almost looked ski-lodge chic, which was unusual considering the rest of the architecture on the island. It was definitely beautiful though. A nice open space and the view of the water at sunset was just spectacular. Every table has a view of the water which was awesome. Food: I wanted seafood and steak and didn't notice a surf and turf on the menu, but the waiter made it happen with no issues. The restaurant is definitely more seafood heavy than Italian but the seafood was the quality you would expect for the price point. My steak was cooked perfectly and the scallops were good as well, though a bit salty for my personal taste. We spent $200 for a dinner for 2 (with wine included.) If you are looking for a nice dinner while on the island- this is a great option. read more

This is my 1st yelp review, I'm compelled to share this experience :-). We are the first guests of the season so there was plenty of time to meet the staff and chef. I ordered the braised short ribs and it was by far the best I have ever had. The chef, Keith, shared the 3hr prep process with me and there's a lot of tlc that goes into this. My gf had the filet mignon and that was also VERY well prepared. The staff is very nice and there is a pianist in the dining room, just an excellent experience. As we sat down I asked 'what is a popular appetizer' and our server responded 'whatever you order' since we are the first diners of the season and hinted at the Sambuca shrimp. One of the better meals we had on the island - beautifully presented, and each course was delicious. The price was normal for the ​higher-end fare on Mackinac (about $60 per person without drinks) but the environment was better than many. Chianti has a wonderful atmosphere, especially with its live pianist. The couple times I've been here all have been wonderful. Staff is very helpful and friendly. I have food allergies, and while this was merely mentioned to the waiter, the chef came out along with my food. He specially prepared a dairy free plate for me, which was not only very thoughtful, but delicious. I've also come to Chianti for the "Early Bird Special". Brussel sprouts came out super fast. Obviously not cooked to order. Mildly warm. Sea scallops with risotto and Filet with risotto. Came out almost hot but not as hot as I would expect being one of the few customers there for dinner. I suspect meals are partially cooked beforehand. The filet was cooked medium as ordered but not as hot as I would have expected. We complained about the Brussel sprouts and got surprised looks with apologies but it was not comped as one would have expected. Creme Brulee was gelatinous like it was a no-bake recipe. Strange. Tasted okay but nothing to rave about. With bottle of wine and tip, $200+ and overpriced for the quality of food. read more

This is a beautiful room in a beautiful setting. The view is great too. It has some outside dining on the​ porch and the night we had dinner there we enjoyed a piano​ player during dinner. The service was attentive​ and correct. The wine list is pretty weak, especially by the glass. They have mostly private labeled​ "Mission Pointe" wines and little else. The menu is decidedly not Italian. They seem to be focused on East Coast fish and steak. They do have a few Italian entrees, but not many. read more

I really enjoyed my dinner here. The staff was friendly and even funny. We shared a bottle of the house cab and it was pretty good. I had the zuppa Toscana soup and eggplant parmesan. Nice view. Nice service. Food is mediocre for a $300 bill (family of 4- no alcohol). First, the lobster bisque was wonderful except for it was as cold as the vichyssoise. When questioned, they mentioned they could "microwave it". I passed. The vegetable ravioli was rich and delicious. Small portion but typical for this type of restaurant. The veal chop was underdone and too fatty. Disappointing as the second priciest thing on menu. The prime rib special was probably the best meal- maybe they should narrow their selections to do better with everything else. The pasta special was drowned in heavy white wine sauce so the patron only ate the shrimp and veggies from the top. Do NOT waste your time or money on desserts at this restaurant. They all came straight from the freezer, from a mass produced BOX. E.g., the "chocolate creme brûlée" was a still-frozen individual round chocolate creme pie with Oreo crust. I kid you not. For $9. Beautiful meal, beautiful service, and an absolutely wonderful place to spend one of our honeymoon evenings on Mackinac!

Food was good but the service was bad. First, the waitress didn't know what was a booster seat; then, our entrees got delayed because of some errors; worst of all, when we were leaving, we were told we could not leave until the waitress DOUBLE verified our identity. So rude, unprofessional and embarrassing. Hello manager, do some serious training. read more
