My family and I stopped at Gangplank for dinner and had a really nice experience. We tried the fish and chicken wings. The menu and food were fairly simple, but everything tasted good and hit the spot. What really stood out was the atmosphere. The place has a lot of charm, and being right on the water makes it an especially enjoyable spot to sit, eat, and relax. The staff was also quick, attentive, and very friendly. The perfect dinner along the lake. A few locals recommended this establishment and I'm so glad we listened. We arrived at 5:30pm and thankfully only had a short wait for a table. Wait staff was a well oiled machine. They worked well & very efficiently together. We ordered drinks and fish tacos. Great meal and something I will do again next time we are in town. We've been hard pressed to find good food in the Mackinaw/ St Ignace area, this spot is really good! We got the white fish fingers for an appetizer, the whitefish entree and the shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious and flavorful! Great portion sizes too. The service was quick and very friendly. Every staff member we talked to was great. This spot is a little more subject to the elements, we heard they close the dinning area in the winter so be aware and bring a coverup if needed! Would highly recommend! read more

I enjoyed my meal, as everything was very local and fresh. Underwhelmed by the size of the location, as I could see this place becoming really busy and hard to get into. The food is what lands this review at a 3 star. The Cranky Cuban was recommended by the waiter and it indeed left me Cranky. $16.99 and you could only taste the bread, had zero flavor, little meat. Side salad in a small bowl was $8.99 not worth that all. Wife had the special that was a spicy shrimp hoagie sandwich and that was decent. As someone who waited tables in a tourist town for 5 years I try to be understanding, but one of our 2 meals was forgotten (okay it happens- "it'll be right out") so we shared the one that did come. Finished it. And decided we really wanted to just leave because the whitefish sandwich wasn't very good anyway. I asked the waiter if we could just have the check and not get the other sandwich and he said "oh. No, I already told them to make it" and walked away from our empty waters. Great food, excellent service!! Had few drinks, all very good, but order the Fishbowl, it won't disappoint. I had the Count burger, sooooo good, if you like garlic, give it a shot. My wife had the Cluckin' Chicken Sandwich, chicken and bacon between waffles, I ate the half she couldn't, now we're both miserable full, but well worth it. While on vacation we don't normally eat at the same restaurant twice, but this one may be the exception. Small space, but worth the wait if it's busy, go for a walk. read more

Not many tables and wasn't busy for a Monday mid afternoon. We order two apps and drinks. I asked how much the margaritas were she had no idea. Red flag in my book as I work in the industry myself. Food came the vampire bread was burnt but cold the beer batter cheese curds were the only decent thing. The app said it came with ranch but I was charged for TWO ranches. All dining is on the deck, offering everyone a view of the waterfront. Our wait time for table was approx. 45 minutes so we took the opportunity to walk across the street to the park/marina area to enjoy the beautiful lakeshore views. Service was great. Today was our third time visiting the Gangplank. Every time we've driven north and south so far! The whitefish fingers are excellent, the whitefish sandwich is also great, and the Hot Lips Houlihan is like no other sandwich we have ever had, anywhere! Delicious. Today we tried the ghost pepper cheese curds, and had to get a second order they were so tasty!! If ever there were a reason to go off your diet, do it at the Gangplank. It's worth it! The place is small and breezy, the view is nice, and the service has been super every time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. read more

The deck dining room is really fun and the service was great. We went at lunchtime and it was super busy. It was really nice that you can get a drink while you wait. I enjoyed my whitefish fingers and fries but they were ok. Because it was so busy, I think they sat for bit so the fish was not crispy. The dipping sauce for the fish was really good. When i first walked up i was greated quickly and with a smile which set a great mood and feeling it was goig. To be a good time which it ended up as....The food was delicious and made right the fries are FRESH cut, and the bison burger was amazing and for the appetizer i went with the cheese curds and house made ranch absolutely delicious! The mains here are pretty decent. I got the Greek pita and was very impressed with the flavors, the tzatziki, the freshness of the onion and tomato. It kinda falls apart after this. There are three side choices for most mains: chips and salsa, fries or cottage cheese. None are really healthy or different from what anyone else is doing with the exception of cottage cheese, which also is a no for me. The fries were a little too salty and on the limp side. The wait time for a Saturday night is about an hour which we saw some people leave from that but there's only 12 tables. The wait staff did not really having it together so we only really got our order in and the check and didn't get a second round of drinks. Overall 3/5 would recommend to friend for the views and the mains. read more

First, the hostess are extremely welcoming which gives you the feel that you "came to the right place". The service was amazing...the servers have personality and make sure "all is well". Smaller sized restaurant that is covered outdoor seating which is amazing. The quality of food is outstanding...we tried the shrimp tacos and Hot Lips Houlihan sandwich...both were great! It's was so good, we went there the next day for a burger (they are huge) and Cuban. Again, neither were a disappointment and service was great!! Let me start by saying that Jen was our server and she was AWESOME. Very personable and attentive. We were with a group of 6, and were excited to try this place after driving by several times during the weekend. The setup is nice with all tables on a patio that has plastic sides for when it gets chilly. We were seated quickly and had our drinks fast. I understand that it's a scratch kitchen, but I don't think it should be close to an hour between ordering and getting our food, which it was. When the food did arrive, some of us were happy and some of us were very much not. We had also noticed a table of 4 near us arrive after we did, order, eat, and leave before we had our food. That was a bit disappointing. They hand cut their fries for each order and they are yummy, but I'd have liked to have more than 8 fries total. I also ordered the whitefish sandwich and it had zero taste. I ended up seasoning it with more salt and pepper and it was tolerable. Our friend loved the vampire burger and ribs. My husband said the whitefish tacos were good but again would have liked more fries. It's pricey - about $60 for 2 entrees, 2 beers, and a cocktail. I'd like to go back and try it again to see if 40 minutes is standard for food delivery and to try something else as their menu featured some good suggestions. I was just not happy with the wait and the small portions for the price. read more

The Gangplank was our lunch pit stop on our way up to Camp Seven Lake. There is a small attached parking lot and a public marina across the street. Our friends who were towing their camper had to park a few blocks away but otherwise I think parking is pretty readily available. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but there was a steady line while we were there. The enclosed patio area has a nice view of the water but it started to get a little toasty when the sun came out. The menu is pretty basic with salads, sandwiches, burgers, and dinner entrees. I was hoping to get the whitefish fingers but they were out. We got an order of boneless wings to start while we waited for our friends to park. This ended up being a great idea because after we all ordered food, we waited for over an hour to receive our meals. It was a bit of a bummer but luckily we weren't in a huge hurry. Just know that they are understaffed and things might take a little longer. I ordered the whitefish tacos and my boyfriend got the shrimp po'boy. The tacos were decent but I felt they could have used more flavor on the breading of the fish. The fries were a little lacking as well - just needed more seasoning. The shrimp po'boy was great! I would get that again. Our server was very sweet but super slammed. There is a~3% service charge if you use a credit or debit card. Overall a cute spot for a leisurely lunch! read more
