Rum punch drink. Sorry, forgot to take photos of lunch. But everything was excellent!

We were pleased to find this Jamaican restaurant. Our only regret is we found it on our last full day. Otherwise, we would definitely have made another visit. We sat on the patio, which afforded a lovely water view, and is also dog friendly! This was a huge bonus, as this seemed to be an issue at other outdoor eating restaurants in St. Ignace. The staff was warm and welcoming. I am celiac, so required gluten free items. The waiter checked with the kitchen and provided my options. The kitchen seemed familiar with gluten-free protocol. Unfortunately, because of a shared fryer, they warned me that the plantains were off limits for me. However, my husband said they were very good. The food was excellent. I had jerk chicken, and my husband had jerk pork. Both were very, very flavorful. They are a bit spicy (as jerk should be), but not overly so. Both are oven baked, versus grilled, and the portions were very generous. The rice and beans were also very nice. I also had a rum drink, which was very generous on the rum, very yummy! We highly recommend and are looking forward to coming again our next stop on St. Ignace.

Plank whitefish

Super disappointed. We loved this location's plank whitefish when it was Village Inn. As Kingston Kitchen it is still available, but definitely missed the mark. Quantity of the fish is fairly small. Mashed potatoes were bland and super dry. Vegetables were very salty. The worst part of the experience, however, was the service. We arrived for an early dinner, around 5pm, and there were only three other tables. We were seated right away, but then waited 10 minutes until we were greeted and our order taken. The waitress brought our food when it was ready but did not come back to check how the food was or to offer any refills on drinks. We had to flag her down so we could pay our bill. Sadly, we will definitely not be coming back, nor recommending this to anyone headed up north.

Foreground: Caribbean Classic - sautéed chicken and shrimp Background: Sink or Swim - seared scallops with risotto

It was very busy and they seemed short staffed. The restaurant was simply designed with Jamaican music in the background. They sat us down, got our drinks and took order. When the food arrived, all I could say was "Wow." We ordered the Coconut Shrimp as an appetizer - the sauce was fresh and homemade - delicious. My wife had the "Sink or Swim" - seared scallops with spinach Parmesan risotto- scallops were sweet and risotto just right. I had the "Caribbean Classic " - sautéed shrimp, chicken and onions in a zesty boom boom sauce - delicious. The portions were good sized - we saw people from every table taking food home. The restaurant has only been open for 2 weeks so there will be growing pains. If they can keep it together and hire a few more bodies, I see a restaurant with staying power.

We loved Kingston Kitchen! Best music I've heard overhead since arriving in Michigan this week. I ordered the Chopped Cobb Salad and it was unusual, the green goddess dressing was so tasty and the food combinations were excellent. Also the polenta.....the best I've ever tasted. My husband ordered the Portland Jerk Pork Chop and the only reason he overcame his resistance to "the Jamaican place" was a review here on Yelp that I read about this pork chop. He did not ask for any modifications and he downed that huge pork chop as fast as I've ever seen. He really liked it. Also I ate the plantains off his plate and they were the best I've ever had.... now for our servers: two delightful women with a lovely accent from the island of Jamaica. Food came out fast and hot. Eat here !

First time to the newly opened Kingston Kitchen at the Village Inn in St Ignace.....3 couples stopped after golf to check out the new venue in the previous, Village Inn Restaurant. Can't say enough about our first experience. Our waiter, Nick, did a great job helping us with the Jamaican-Fusion style menu, which had lots to choose from. Everyone's food was outstanding. So excited to have this great food option in St. Ignace. We wish Chef Shawn and team the very best and hope they knock it out of the park! Welcome to the community and downtown St. Ignace. Great location across the road from the Straits of Mackinac and boatlines to Mackinac Island, where they also have a sister operation.

Appetizer trifecta, with whitefish cheese dip, nachos (AMAZING), and jerk chicken spicy traditional jerk (THE BEST EVER)!!!!

EXCELLENT FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE! Just... wow! Walked in on a rainy Sunday evening and the place was poppin'! Sat at the bar and had a sangria, and shared the appetizer trio with my husband. The jerk chicken was PERFECT. The nachos were the best I've ever had. (Which, I know, is a bold statement, but they are fire!) Husband had the Porkchop which was AMAZING! Every bartender, server, BOH, and chef were extra friendly and knew exactly what they were doing... like watching a ballet. Best food ever. I highly recommend.

Very nice, clean modern surroundings with lovely bar.

A great scratch kitchen with a Jamaican touch. The food and drinks were works of art and were unique and delicious. The planked white fish was art, crunchy jerk pork chop was delicious. Do not hesitate--this place is perfection. Services was very good and friendly.

Island Grillers is a food truck located in the Charlevoix branch of The Back Lot, a collection of…read morefood trucks and a bar with a great view of Lake Charlevoix. There was a steady number of people getting food from Island Grillers, and I was excited to try it out. #20 Jerk Chicken ($19.50) - The Jerk Chicken takes around 30 minutes after ordering to come out. It seems to be cooked fresh as it was steaming when we picked up the box. The chicken itself, consisting of a leg quarter, is super tender and falls off the bone easily. There are some crispy bits from the chicken being charred on the grill and the fat/skin is rendered well. The char is quite good - I normally don't eat the cartilage on the end of the drumstick, but here, it's nicely charred and chewy, a nice departure from the tenderness of the meat. The jerk seasoning/sauce applied is a bit on the sweet side, almost like a tomatoey sweet BBQ sauce. There's just the barest hint of scotch bonnet heat - to be honest, if you didn't tell me this was jerk chicken, I might not have been able to guess it. Still, the chicken is quite delicious even if it's not the most "jerk". On the side, we got a salad, red beans & rice, and a dinner roll. The salad is simple, but with plenty of halved grape tomatoes, diced bell peppers, cucumber, and romaine lettuce dressed in a very sweet red dressing. Both the rice and red beans are cooked a bit on the hard side and give a nice bite in contrast to the tender chicken. Be careful eating - they cook the herbs/spices inside, so you can find full allspice berries and stems of thyme mixed throughout. The dinner roll is quite interesting. It's a commercial roll, but it's covered with butter and spices and then grilled, giving the exterior somewhat of a crust and a nice flavor. It comes sliced in half, and it's perfect for mopping up the dregs of jerk sauce after finishing the chicken. Note: Island Grillers charges an 8.5% fee for credit card transactions, which is the highest I have ever seen. If you go inside the bar building up the stairs there's a station where you can get complimentary sparkling or still water. The bathrooms are also in that area, two larger rooms per gender. Overall I enjoyed the food at Island Grillers and I can definitely recommend this food truck if you stop by The Back Lot.
