Dinner tonight was Sink or Swim- tender scallops served with spinach parmesan risotto covered in lobster sauce. Creamy, decadent delishiousness! Authentic Jamaican Flavor in St. Ignace! We were so pleasantly surprised to find Jamaican food in St. Ignace with the addition of Kingston Kitchen at the Inn--and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Nick was our server and he was both attentive and genuinely friendly. Even though he was clearly busy, he still made us feel right at home. He offered some excellent cocktail recommendations--my wife especially enjoyed the Old Fashioned, which isn't even usually her go-to! We also tried the Ting with a Sting and the house punch--both were tropical, flavorful, and fun. Do yourself a favor and order the cocktail flight--such a great way to sample several unique drinks. For dinner, we had the jerk chicken and ribs, and both were seasoned perfectly. The rice and beans were especially delicious, and they serve this amazing "fruit ketchup" with the fries that totally surprised us--sweet, tangy, and addictive. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. If you sit in the window section, you even get a partial view of the water. First of all, service is the 5 stars, Fantastic!! Love the location, you can literally see the water front sit by the window. My favorite had to be the coconut shrimp starter which came with a delicious relish and crispy onion straws. This place gets busy, so plan on a bit of a wait! I appreciated the parking nearby and that the staff was friendly. Walking in, there's a bunch of seating, but it definitely fills up! I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and my spouse ordered the Crunch Portland Jerk Pork Chop. The serving side was generous, which I appreciated due to the price. This definitely tasted authentic and I really appreciated the flavor due to how it was lacking at the other nearby restaurants in the area. My chicken was a bit dry in a couple of places, but I didn't even care. It was so good, I ate that entire thing somehow. The rice and beans, as well as the plantain, were also delicious. My spouse LOVED the pork chop. I stole some bites, and it was the best thing we ate on our entire trip. The marmalade and spice were perfect. My family and I ate here tonight and had a ton of problems. The restaurant was basically empty when we were there so the errors can't be blamed on them being busy. We were a party of 11 and 5 of our meals came out wrong. One salad didn't have half the toppings it was supposed to have. My food didn't even come out, I had to ask for it after everyone else had their food. The food tasted decent at least, which is why I still gave 2 stars. read more

We were pleased to find this Jamaican restaurant. Our only regret is we found it on our last full day. Otherwise, we would definitely have made another visit. We sat on the patio, which afforded a lovely water view, and is also dog friendly! This was a huge bonus, as this seemed to be an issue at other outdoor eating restaurants in St. Ignace. The staff was warm and welcoming. I am celiac, so required gluten free items. The waiter checked with the kitchen and provided my options. The kitchen seemed familiar with gluten-free protocol. Unfortunately, because of a shared fryer, they warned me that the plantains were off limits for me. However, my husband said they were very good. The food was excellent. I had jerk chicken, and my husband had jerk pork. Both were very, very flavorful. They are a bit spicy (as jerk should be), but not overly so. Both are oven baked, versus grilled, and the portions were very generous. The rice and beans were also very nice. I also had a rum drink, which was very generous on the rum, very yummy! We highly recommend and are looking forward to coming again our next stop on St. Ignace. read more

Food was tremendous and atmosphere was fresh and included the Old Village Inn photos on the walls. We would eat the food again. The service could have been a lot better. Besides us, there were only 2 other tables with customers and no one at the bar. The server Lisa D kept pressuring us 3 times if our friends were coming even after we told her that friends were coming from below and of course bridge traffic makes things slower. One more time asking and we would have walked out. Never heard of a limited wait time, but we were polite. Server never checked on us if we needed anything after she served drinks and food. Next time a take out from Kingston or some other place. Even though we could have had better service, we tipped $25 for $100 dollar meal. read more

Super disappointed. We loved this location's plank whitefish when it was Village Inn. As Kingston Kitchen it is still available, but definitely missed the mark. Quantity of the fish is fairly small. Mashed potatoes were bland and super dry. Vegetables were very salty. The worst part of the experience, however, was the service. We arrived for an early dinner, around 5pm, and there were only three other tables. We were seated right away, but then waited 10 minutes until we were greeted and our order taken. The waitress brought our food when it was ready but did not come back to check how the food was or to offer any refills on drinks. We had to flag her down so we could pay our bill. Sadly, we will definitely not be coming back, nor recommending this to anyone headed up north. read more

Native Michigander, been to the area many times over my life. Even when we went in the middle of winter for a school band trip, this is a busy town. Perhaps because I go, expecting it to be packed, I always search out food well before the rest of the family gets hungry, so that someone can sit in the queue to wait. My family was in town for the "MINI on the Mack" and obviously, there were over a thousand MINI Coopers driving around. We walked the downtown area and as it got close to dinnertime, I noticed the line for Kingston Kitchen was not yet obnoxiously long. Joined the queue and texted the teenagers. We had excellent service and the food was delicious! We'll probably be back here on the next MINI on the Mack trip! read more

It was very busy and they seemed short staffed. The restaurant was simply designed with Jamaican music in the background. They sat us down, got our drinks and took order. When the food arrived, all I could say was "Wow." We ordered the Coconut Shrimp as an appetizer - the sauce was fresh and homemade - delicious. My wife had the "Sink or Swim" - seared scallops with spinach Parmesan risotto- scallops were sweet and risotto just right. I had the "Caribbean Classic " - sautéed shrimp, chicken and onions in a zesty boom boom sauce - delicious. The portions were good sized - we saw people from every table taking food home. The restaurant has only been open for 2 weeks so there will be growing pains. If they can keep it together and hire a few more bodies, I see a restaurant with staying power. read more

We loved Kingston Kitchen! Best music I've heard overhead since arriving in Michigan this week. I ordered the Chopped Cobb Salad and it was unusual, the green goddess dressing was so tasty and the food combinations were excellent. Also the polenta.....the best I've ever tasted. My husband ordered the Portland Jerk Pork Chop and the only reason he overcame his resistance to "the Jamaican place" was a review here on Yelp that I read about this pork chop. He did not ask for any modifications and he downed that huge pork chop as fast as I've ever seen. He really liked it. Also I ate the plantains off his plate and they were the best I've ever had.... now for our servers: two delightful women with a lovely accent from the island of Jamaica. Food came out fast and hot. First time to the newly opened Kingston Kitchen at the Village Inn in St Ignace.....3 couples stopped after golf to check out the new venue in the previous, Village Inn Restaurant. Can't say enough about our first experience. Our waiter, Nick, did a great job helping us with the Jamaican-Fusion style menu, which had lots to choose from. Everyone's food was outstanding. We went to this restaurant, looking for a Lake Superior white fish sandwich. The service was good and the atmosphere was fine, but we found the sandwich disgusting! We like to enjoy Lake Superior whitefish when we are in the Upper Peninsula, but instead we got something that looked like it came out of a frozen food box. It was a rectangular molded piece of "fish stick". It was obvious we weren't eating anything that was caught out of one of the Great Lakes. The fish was covered with some kind of sauce that just added to our dislike of this meal. We've had countless whitefish dinners and sandwiches when we go to Saint Ignace, and we've been to this location many times in the past, but the place has changed hands with a different menu and name. We gave this place a try--but we won't be going back. read more

The Caesar salad with the jerk chicken was the best I've had. The cornbread things with it were on another level. We saw a lady get a slice (8") tall of carrot cake and laughed. I dined at this new restaurant on May 20, 2025 while in a party of 4. Jamal was our waiter and he told us the restaurant was having a grand opening the next day. The food was amazing! 2 of us had the Lobster Mac. It was a huge serving and was outstanding. Another had the Sink or Swim plate of Scallops with lobster sauce on risotto. They were over the top about how good their dish was. The fourth had a beautiful chicken Caesar salad and was pleased with it.
