    Whitfish hoagie

I decided that I really wanted fish, but not fried fish. Looking at menus of resaurants in the area, Johnnie's on 2 seemed to have exactly what I wanted. I walked in, and a very nice server (Sandy, maybe) seated me right away. She was very nice to me and gave me a lot of attention. She told me that she purposely sat me in her section. I orered the whitefish hoagie and iced tea. She made a point of making sure my tea was always full, and she even gave me some to go! The downside of the restaurant was that it was LOUD! They were playing a game, and even though the place wasn't crowded, they were using a microphone turned up very loud. And the noise from the pool table carried as well. I also noticed that the floor didn't have a good foundation; every time someone walked by, my table shook a bit. I enjoyed my meal and the service, but I must admit that I was glad to get out of there; as a weary traveller, it was just too loud for me.

    Whitefish dinner (broiled)

After a weekend of camping near Manistique, I was craving some vegetables and lighter food. Usually Nate and I just grab a pasty on our way up and back from the U.P., but we decided to stop at Johnnie's on 2 before heading back down state. I wanted some whitefish, and saw they had it on their menu. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived, so we were told to take a seat wherever. We ordered drinks - a beer from their extensive tap list for Nate, water for me - and then tried to order food. They were out of a few things I asked for, but I ended up getting the broiled whitefish dinner with a side salad and fries, and Nate got the whitefish hoagie. The salad came out first and it was huge. We were happy to split this and our bodies thanked us for the veggies. It was fresh and had great toppings - some red onion, fresh mushrooms, green peppers, cherry tomatoes, and plenty of cheese. Our other food came out shortly afterwards. My fish was a little bland and just slightly overcooked, but I still liked it. The fries were okay, just your typical frozen bar fries. Nate really enjoyed the whitefish hoagie - it was a generous portion of fish, at least on one half of the sandwich. I had a few bites and didn't love the sauteed red onions on it. Service was quick and efficient, and the bathroom was really clean. It was a good stop for after camping, and I might visit again the next time I'm in town.

Aside from our food taking at least 45 mins to come out, this place was great. Portions are huge and I wish the waitress would've told us so we could've skipped out on the peel and eat shrimp but it is what it is. We could barely finish the nachos, which was mostly chips, they kind of skimped out on the meat as you can see in the picture, it was mostly veggies and chips. The peel and eat shrimp was surprisingly good and the kids hot dogs were also good but how do you mess up hot dogs right? Overall, the food was surprisingly good here.

Had a taste of their chicken dumpling soup of the day very good. So I got the medium nachos, when it's says it feeds up to 3 people they mean it. Another person loved the Chicken bacon ranch wrap. Then another of our party got the reuben and like it a lot as well. Our waitress was very nice, DEFINITELY Recommend!!

Just a mile off of the beaten track. A restaurant you won't want to miss! Tons of food options! Wings, Burgers, Sandwiches, Salads, Onion Rings, Cheese Curds, and Sweet Potato Fries to name a few! Server was very friendly and accommodating! We stopped by w/ a decent sized group, and it wasn't too busy. We decided to try a cheeseburger with bacon, cheese and tomato, as well as a bag of potato chips. Both of which were delicious! We also tried the wings! There were a handful of sauces available for them! The garlic one was our fav! Sweet Potato fries were amazing! And the Kids meals were good and plentiful! Highly recommend! Will definitely be visiting next time we're in the UP!

We were really excited to eat at Johnnie's because of the positive Yelp reviews. Unfortunately we left hungry and disappointed. First, when we walked into the restaurant there is no sign that says "seat yourself" or "please wait to be seated." This makes it very confusing and awkward for customers. They should take this into consideration and add a sign of some sort for their guests. Eventually a waitress said "sit wherever you'd like." We proceeded. We sat down and the table was so sticky. I asked the waitress if she could wipe the table but she said the finish on the tables is what makes them so sticky. This was bothersome but not a huge deal. The music was super loud for it being prime time for dinner around 6:15pm. My dad and I both were starving from a day of exploring the UP, and so we both ordered burgers. The waitress asked, "the burgers are cooked to "medium" is that okay?" Absolutely, that is what we preferred. They get brought out to us and they were cooked well done and so dry. It wasn't a classic juicy burger. I should have gotten a photo of it but I didn't. My burger looked good, the one pictured, but it was not cooked how we ordered. My dad took two bites of his burger and didn't even finish it. I ate about half of mine. The chili on mine was great. The waitress came back to check on us and she asked us how everything was. My dad politely said it was horrible and we showed her that the burgers were well done and dry. She apologized. She came back again to give us our bills and she said her manager instructed her to take off my dads burger since he didn't even eat it. But in this case, that isn't what we wanted. We don't want free food. What should have happened is the manager should have came out and apologized and learned more to help the business grow from this mistake. We tipped the waitress higher because it wasn't her fault. The bathrooms were clean which was great. Overall we didn't have a super great experience.

Nice environment, terrific selection of beers with knowledgeable bartender and the food was good. Not what I was hoping for Easter dinner but it was very good nonetheless.

Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

Brewery # 275 When…read moreit comes to breweries, I'm like that Johnny Cash song "I've been everywhere man". I've been to breweries in over 30 states and as you can see above this is the 275th brewery I've visited. So when I say this is by far the most overpriced brewery I have been to, that's saying something. A usual flight of beer can range from 8-12 bucks for 4-4oz pours. I've had a couple places charge a little more than that but 22.00 for 16 oz of beer? and mediocre beer at that is insane. Ok so let me start from the beginning. Mackinac Island Brewhouse is NOT on Mackinac Island it's on the main land in Mackinaw City so they are lying from the get go! Lol. When you walk in the place looks really cool. There's a huge dragon sculpture made out of car or motorcycle parts and is very well done. The place has diamond plate everywhere and that stuff is not cheap. Must be why the beer is so overpriced. The bathrooms are an underserved port-o-let outside or you can walk down to the Italian Restaurant and use theirs. Oh yeah this brewery is part of a fudge store, gift shop, Italian restaurant, build-a-bear toy store that's run like separate businesses but connected. The beer was just ok at best. They only brew a few of their own and the rest are guests beer. The Mackinaw City website claims they have 37 taps but if they did, they hid them. My flight had their Breakfast Stout, Summer Splash (wheat) Fur Trader(hazy IPA) and White Chocolate Blonde from Grand Armory Brewing. None of the beers were bad but nothing great either. Basically this is a tourist trap that's overpriced, The bartender was nice but seemed to have to go into the toy store or whatever place was next door to work most of the time. Cool looking place, run poorly and priced ridiculously.

Atmosphere is great, service & beer were great. Food was extremely disappointing. For $18, I…read moreexpected the "chicken chunks" to at least be decent quality...
