I have been here a numerous times and somehow have not written a review. With overdue the place needs a face lift outside and inside. The staff is great and very welcoming. The food is somewhat hit and miss White fish cakes are phenomenal perfectly crispy on the outside and flaky inside. Burger was huge but was ok needed some seasoning. Chefs white fish creation is definitely different but not bad by any means. Great view of the lake. May be some music in the background during lunch time would make this place a bit more lively. read more

Always enjoy stopping here on our way to Mackinac. Eat outside so you can enjoy the views of the Mack Bridge and lake. Servers are polite and prompt. Food is average. Nothing to write home about. It's probably best for a quick bite at an affordable price. read more

Food was just okay. Kids had a burger and two pizzas off the kids menu. Fish and chips for me was waaaaaay over-breaded with very small pieces of fish inside. Not the best effort. Fries and coleslaw were perfect. The 4 meals with 3 pops and a lemonade was ~$80 with tip. Went at 1pm on Tuesday and was seated inside after being told the patio was full (it wasnt). Mackinac Grille use to be one of my favorite places to eat, but I don't believe I will be going back. I ordered a white fish melt expecting fish to be on the sandwich, but I had some kind of breaded concoction. It was sort of like stuffing that was breaded and fried. I was very disappointed with my meal. My husband and I spent $50 there for lunch and it was not spent very well. I mentioned my disappointment with the waitress, but nothing was done. "Lets go down to the Sunset Grill We can watch the working girls go by" (Don Henley) We enjoyed a lovely late dinner at the Macinack Grille on Saturday night July 27. We didn't have reservations, so picked up a buzzer from the hostess and joined the crowd waiting in the gift shop or lounging around at the entrance. Our wait was about a half hour, and we were seated in a rear dining room that should receive a Gold Medal for Eclectic Design. Our table was covered in laminated Detroit Tiger baseball cards, and the walls were plastered with beer company paraphernalia and Detroit sports memorabilia. Our server Aimy brought our meal -a Cheeseburger Platter ($11.99), and for me a cup of Clam Chowder ($4.49) and Shrimp Steamers ($14.99). My meal was excellent, the chowder was served piping hot and was loaded with chopped clams and potatoes. And man, oh man, were the shrimps great. They were a half pound served shell-on "Caribbean style" with lemon and cocktail sauce. Yes, they were messy to eat but were so worth the mess. Aimy helped me out with a few wet naps. This was the biggest waste of money I've spent. My chili had no meat in it, kids spaghetti was still hard, lobster mac and cheese has questionable lobster and the meatloaf looked days old. I barely made it back to the hotel before my stomach rejected the food. read more

Mediocre Food and Service. The quality of the food, the portion size, and service accuracy do not justify the excessive high price. Ordered walleye, baked potato, fresh vegetables, and a glass of Riesling. Was served 3 real small pieces of some kind breaded deep fried fish, baked potato, a small condiment cup of coleslaw, and a glass of Pino Grigio. The waitress, while friendly enough, did not have a good grasp of the English language. And all for just under $50. This place is definitely not depending on repeat business. They are who the rest of the reviews said they were. The views were good from the dining room and it's themed well, beautifully sitting on Lake Huron with the lighthouse on the horizon. The food left much to be desired between all of us that were there. I got the great grilled cheese which the blue cheese was good, but the apple lacked any flavor or sweetness that you would want to balance out the sandwich. So it really was just a disappointing grill cheese. The beans were bush beans out of a can which is all you can really ask for after coleslaw and fries being the only real side dishes at most restaurants around here. The restaurant has a great location and great view of the water and lighthouse. It's nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the boats. The restaurant really Nickel and dimes you on everything. I ordered a burger and the waitress offered lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onions; she charged me .50 for every item. It's not about the cost but maybe mention to the customer especially after they paid $14.00 for the burger. The kids meals are close to $9.00 and don't come with a side or drink. I understand it's in a tourist town but the prices here wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't just mediocre pre-bought food. We ordered carry out on our way to Shakespeare in the park. Even though their carry out had officially ended for the day they kindly accepted our order. My husband got a chicken finger basket and it was filling and satisfying. I ordered a Michigan salad with chicken. OMG. I enjoyed it so much. That was an amazing salad and I especially enjoyed the dried sweet cherries and the delicious dressing. We really only expected some bar food to go. The staff was friendly and the food was great. Wife, I and family have been coming to the Mackinac Grill for 26 years. We did multiple stops with our kids, in-laws through out those 26 years and we always enjoyed the salad bar located in the train but the salad bar is no longer now it's a souvenir shop. The special is what I ordered on this stop it was a turkey bacon croissant for $13.95. The turkey was from a store bought package it was one very thin piece it didn't even fill the croissant, the cold Swiss cheese was thicker than the one slice of turkey and the bacon was one slice broke into two pieces pulled from the cold fridge and put on the croissant, the bacon had cold white grease on it. Horrible, I'd think the cook would be embarrassed to send something out of the kitchen to be served like this but that wasn't the case today. I did send back they did replace but it was just ok, at least it was warm the second go around. Wife order a whitefish hoagie for $18.95 it was one small slice of fish on each bun no cheese, no coleslaw an absolutely horrible display of what their so called whitefish hoagie is. Although we will miss Ronnie who is a server and a staple at the Grille wife and I have decided there are too many other places to eat at in St. Ignace so that will definitely be our last time visiting the Mackinac Grille. read more

We went here on a Sunday evening and were happy to see all the cars in the lot. Unfortunately it must have been because they were one of the few restaurants open. Smoked whitefish dip (out). Deep fried dill pickles for an appetizer were average. Deep fried white fish were overcooked with the smallest baked potato ever. Lobster was still frozen in the Mac and cheese. Mackinaw breeze drinks were warm. "Caribbean slow" service. The best things were the garlic bread and the view from the patio. I was able to finish most of the fish. We tried warming up the lobster Mac later in the microwave. That was unsuccessful and in the trash it went. I definitely would find another place for dinner or even drinks. read more

The pickles go dumb, the spears is the best idea rather than idiotic chips! The spice In them hoes is timeless and the ranch is nice but I love a herbal ranch and this ain't that. The fish is the fucking greatest ever, melts away in my mouth pause and I'm feeling blessed, hush puppies fye, I like the lettuce it came with, the tartar sauce was mid but creamy, low seasoning level and lord knows them beans come from a can. But I was happy I would also like to say this place too hated. I think it was dope and the wait was a bit but idc and why should you. Up in the UP for a quick trip. Decided to try out the Mackinac Grille on State St. So glad we did. Servers were very pleasant and quickly sat us on the enclosed patio. I ordered the Mac and Cheese with chicken. I'm picky about Mac and cheese and it was pretty good! Would definitely get it again. Hubby got the chicken tender basket with extra extra crispy fries. He's not real crazy about steak fries but he ate most of them. Our friends ordered the Michigan salad and the Whitefish patty melt and we're both very pleased with the portions and the flavors. We're taking out half of the Mac and cheese and the salad for later!! Loves being out on the enclosed patio in a very light rain, right on the water. So pretty. read more

The outside scenery outside this place was amazing! Right on the water with a lighthouse close by. The food was mediocre. Didn't blow me away but they're known for their fish dishes so anything else possibly doesn't have the same quality as their fish. Service was better than the food. Gorgeous views but the service was absolutely terrible. Food was ok, a little greasy but nothing outstanding. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant and when finally seated, it took another 15 minutes to get menus and water. While we were waiting, we heard 4 staff members standing around the bar gossiping loudly about their coworkers. Once we put in our order, we only saw our waiter once when we got our food. We needed water and refill on our drinks. We also ordered drinks and they never came. We got up to ask the bar and they told us to sit down and they would bring it out later. It never came. The entire time, we just heard all the staff gossiping at the bar with eachother. The decor on the walls in the room we sat at was very anti-tourist. I thought it was cute and funny at first, but maybe it was actually true and they cater to locals. Looking back, I should have left. I do not recommend this place to anyone based on service alone. What a terrible taste I now have in my mouth with my first experience in this town. read more
