Menu looked good so we stopped in for our first in town experience. The wait at 7 pm was 25-30 mins not a huge deal but then we waited another 45ish for food. The waitress tried to make up for being slow by crowding our table with extra drinks we didnt need. Nothing was cleared as we were done either. Just overall a slow service. This is only a review of the service as we never ended up eating here..... We were greeted on what seemed like a slower Thursday evening for dinner. The 2 hostess's seemed clueless on where we were going, but we got sat on the patio (bonus) and then..... 27 minutes went by with 4 other tables sat after us and 2 of those given drinks and food orders taken. One in the group of others noticed us and we laughed at the number of times several wait staff passed us by. They seemed oblivious to us and didn't seem to pose any care in the world we were there with menus and not drinks. The kids were getting SUPER antsy at this point so we left and so glad we did as we enjoyed a great meal at the Gangplank! We could of spoken up, walked to the bar or host station for answers but when your own staff are not paying attention to the most important detail of someone at a table of yours with no drinks or food.....what else is lacking at this establishment. read more

Visiting St. Ignace, Mi in mid-March is definitely the off season. Many restaurants are closed for the season, but at least Mackinac Grille was open and they were on my mental list of some places I wanted to try, they were the only one of three open. There is a large dining room surrounded by bay windows, leading to a bar and another room from there. I was led to the side room with views of the lake and beach and a walkway. When in the U.P. I try to always go for the pasty. The pasty here was large and served with coleslaw. The pasty had the traditional taste but was a bit on the dry side. I enjoyed a craft beer from the tap and that with a table next to the fireplace and a view of cold Lake Huron and bundled up walkers along the boardwalk outside gave me a cozy feeling. This review is just for takeout, not dine in, so my only comments are on the fried perch from the fish market part of the menu. It was crispy and there was a good amount of it. I also received two sides and the high puppies were very good. Everything was super fresh and delicious and just what I was hoping for. While not the very best fish and chips, it was pretty good and hit the spot. The whitefish dip is served with in package saltines. Come on, try a little. Sunkist lemonade was horrendous. Wasn't the cleanest place either, place smelled like burnt tires mixed with gerry curl juice. Service was adequate. read more

Our waitress was Janet and she was very pleasant and attentive. My husband had the shrimp dinner and he said it was the best he ever had. I had the baked white fish dinner and it was very filling and good. We were seated appropriately for COVID. We also were seated inside because the outside was full. Steak fries could have been crispier and the potatoes with the "plank" had a little odd taste. The burgers were good but none of the food was spectacular. We waited for 30 minutes or so and were passed over by 3 groups that got there after us (we needed a table for 2). She got the seafood combo and the breading was excessive. She removed most of the breading so she could taste the seafood. I got breaded whitefish and the breading was on point. I had the spaghetti and my wife had a pastie, in which she was craving, we usually go to Suzy's pasties but it was closed on Wednesday's. The spaghetti noodles were abundant but old and stiff, the sauce was ok but sparse, so I had a dry bowl of noodles with a little sauce. This place had great potential. Chad was absolutely the worst waiter I have encountered for a long time. Not sure if he has a meth problem or what. Even his colleagues seemed over him. We never had a manger come and check on us, despite other servers and other patrons speaking up on our behalf. Our food took well over an hour and half of it was wrong. There could have been a beautiful view of the water but it's blocked by a giant party tent owned by the restaurant. Heads up: they charge you 3% extra if you're not paying cash. The food was fine. As regular as it comes. I am sure there are plenty of other places where you can get better service, better view and better food- without a surcharge for using your credit card. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years. We always seem to leave happy BUT not blown away by our experience. First -- lets talk about the wait. It's insane - we were told 30-40 minutes. Now normally that doesn't bother me. However, it was the 11 tables available, clean and not reserved - that we had to stare at while waiting. After our 30 minutes were up guess where we and the other families waiting were seated?? In those 11 tables that were empty the whole time we waited. Once we were seated we were greeted promptly and with a smile. The drinks came out quick BUT super weak. "Come on - we're on vacation - get me buzzed and I spend more money."
