First time being on the island for multiple days. We ate at Broken Spoke yesterday and decided to come back again today. My wife and I agreed, the best food we ate on the island. The BBQ burger may be the best burger you have ever had! Bacon and brisket with your burger? So good. Good drinks and even better food. read more

Broken Spoke - a burger and french fries on a plate - American Near Me - Mackinac Island, Michigan

Great food and fun atmosphere. We stopped in for some apps and pre-dinner cocktails. It's got a great local pub vibe and the food was on point. Highly recommend the steak bites, rare. And for the Rangoon, get both sauces - they were amazing! read more

I wish you could give two reviews sometimes, because the drinks and service were incredible but the food was expensive and mediocre. The BBQ plate was very disappointing, and the chili that I was so excited to try was pretty standard. The slaw was delicious and tasted refreshing. The bartender was very kind and patient when trying lots of different samples, ended up getting two REALLY good beers. So anyways if I could give two reviews the food wood be a 3 and everything else a 5. read more

Fun atmosphere! Jade was a great server and spoke very highly of the French Onion soup and it did not disappoint.

Stopped in for breakfast because they had a fruit option on the menu. I was hoping to get that and the hashbrowns. Being vegan and having an egg allergy there are basically no breakfast options on this entire island except for Starbucks. Sadly they were out of the fruit...So. I had two super greasy hashbrown patties that were basically what you'd get at McDonald's and then I walked to the market and bought my own fruit. Would it kill people to have like a tofu scramble? It's cheap and not hard. Or some oatmeal even? read more

Ate dinner here tonite with my hubby for our anniversary. He ordered the burger topped with brisket & pulled pork. I ordered an appetizer of steak bites and substituted the garlic bread for French fries! Both portions were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Also, menu prices were very reasonable for the amount of food that was given! Did I mention our waitress was amazing, very knowledgeable about food options, and very attentive! A+ dining for sure! We'll definitely have to return again next year! Highly recommend eating here! Well worth the money! read more

We were turned away by pink pony due to being full and our experience the prior morning at the pancake house was less than memorable so we were heading back to the ferry and thinking "I wonder if Starbucks has their sousvide" when "breakfast until 10:30" caught my eye. Well...can I say we were thrilled with our experience. The menu isn't big but the food was great, so was the Bloody Mary and mimosa. I want to thank them for serving us honey that wasn't in a plastic bear and bread that was more artesian than wonder bread!! And Brianna was awesome! Thanks to the restauranteur for making our last meal on the island perfect. read more

Great sweet potato fries (worth the extra $2 substitute). Chicken popper sandwich is a tasty unique take on the spicy chicken sandwich: worth every bite! Loaded carne fries were very tasty! Great environment and server and beer too! read more

So we were on a school trip, had a group of 8 and it was not that busy at all. Only about 1/2 of the tables were full. The menu looks good. Overpriced for some of the entrees but you kind of expect that on the island. Our group ordered burgers mainly and those looked pretty good. We also got the salmon. It was OK but so full of bones and such a very small portion. I got the pot pie. Ok this was so disappointing. It was chicken noodle soup with some biscuits cut in half, laid on top. It was $17 for that. The waitress was OK but did goof up the bills and we had to send three things back. Over all I would never go back...too many other yummy places on the island. read more

One of the worst lunches I have ever had. The soup was so salty it was inedible. When mentioning this to our waitress, she replied "yeah, we get that a lot". The corn beef was dry and the sandwich itself was left on the plate. When the waitress finally came to our table, we told her how awful it was and her reply was " I can see that"., $60 lunch left on the table. read more

Great service, wait staff and bartender. You are welcomed from the time you enter and all employees continue to make you feel welcomed and appreciate. The food is amazing, beer is cold and drinks are perfect! Absolutely worth stopping for a drink, a meal or both!! read more

Update: The manager came out later. He was courteous and listened to us. He said if we hadn't already paid the bill before he found out then he would have refunded some of the meal. It's unfortunate because we literally ate two to three bites of the pot pie total. I considered bumping up the rating because the manager was really spending time listening to us but then I came back to our hotel and found out that other patrons did not like their pot pie either. One person called it disgusting. As such, I am leaving it here as a warning to others to be careful what you order. Stick to sandwiches and bar food. Positive note: great merlot Original post: The special was ok. Nice fried shrimp with a refreshing marmalade dipping sauce. Excellent sweet potatoes and vegetable medley. The steak itself was unseasoned. Table Salt and pepper helped a decent amount. The chicken pot pie was Luke warm and floury, different from what we expected. Unfortunately, the waitress said the kitchen (management?) couldn't comp the pot pie. Still, she was very apologetics and was otherwise very attentive. // generally wouldn't recommend the food. read more

Reuben was fantastic. Good quality meat! We also subbed sweet potato fries and it came with the best honey sriracha sauce. The loaded potato tots had super good flavor and didn't have a ton of grease. read more

The service was good enough, but the food was horrible. This place was also VERY over priced. If I can, I'll try to attach a picture of the bat that made its home here as well. read more

My first experience at this restaurant was the first year they were open under new ownership, and at that point things were a little rocky, and the food didn't meet my expectations. I'm happy to say that in the years since, they've certainly gotten things under control and this is one of my favorite places on the island to go to now. The steak and cheddar soup, while lacking any noticeable pieces of steak, was absolutely delicious, and the fish & chips were tasty. Prices are very reasonable and I'm happy to be able to recommend this restaurant to my friends. Review originally 3 stars, updated to 5 stars June 2016 read more

Very chaotic. Server was nice and the food was pretty quick coming out but the cooks refused to make adjustments to our food and our order was all messed up. The food itself was good but then we asked for separate checks and those were all mixed up. Won't be returning. read more

Broken Spoke - Buffalo chicken sandwich, fine but not great quality - American Near Me - Mackinac Island, Michigan

The food was very tasty...I had a chicken sandwich and onion rings. Kids menu available. Prices were reasonable. Service was excellent. Beers on tap. No changing table in ladies restroom. read more

My burger was pretty good. The barbecue pork sandwich was really good. The Asian salad was just not good. The dried noodles were stale. The wait staff seemed a little short tempered, but they do get loads of people in and out throughout the day. I wish they had more dipping sauces for the onion rings. A little expensive but it is a tourist trap! read more

Great place to stop n drop taking a break from fudge eating and shopping on the island. Our bartender made me two fabulous skinny margaritas. Plus he was from Dublin OH! Ahhh! One of us! Fun bar good ambiance. Clean bathroom. Go for it. read more

The food was good, but service was slow and not very thoughtful. Waters never got refilled. Other drinks were never even brought to the table. Toward the end of our meal the waitress told us she was getting too busy and wouldn't be able to stop back at our table. There are lots of places to eat in town, so next time we'll skip this one and spend our $$ elsewhere! read more

I have been to this restaurant this labor day weekend (2013-09-02). When we got the restaurant it was around 5:40 pm and we ordered some common dishes including steak, fried chicken, etc. We waited and waited and the food didn't came until nearly 50 minutes later. And the tastes were just as normal, some dishes like the wild wings were terrible. The server came only once during the entire dinning process. In the end, each of us were charged about 25-30 bucks plus 18% auto-billed tips. Overall, the service and the food of this restaurant was far below average and the food are definitely over charged. My suggestion is to AVOID this restaurant don't try to risk your dinning opportunities on this restaurant if you are a tourist. read more

The Mac and cheese was good. The brisket with it was tough and too fatty (even for brisket). The tater tots were great, but it's hard to mess that up. It wasn't that expensive which was nice and our waitress was nice. But overall, there's better food elsewhere on the island. Plus, there were flies EVERYWHERE. The screen in the door was busted and so there was nothing to stop from from making themselves at home. read more

Not very crowded when we walked in which was a shock because the service was quick and friendly and the food is amazing! Had the peel and eat shrimp and husband had the Reuben. Both is us enjoyed a Moscow mule! Highly recommend! read more

Had breakfast here after missing hotel breakfast. Pancakes were rated average by our pancake connoisseurs. Potatoes were not great but the kids loved them. Western omelette was better than expected and based on what I saw a good choice. Place was empty at 10am but service was good and coffee waS again better than expected. All in all would go back. read more

Great food, great service. Staff was friendly and they took my son's dairy and egg allergy seriously. He had several options, but he decided on the found Asian chicken salad with grilled chicken (with fries, of course). It was a great salad suitable for vegans sans chicken. Lots of peanuts, edamame, crispy noodles, with a fantastic Asian sesame ginger dressing. I highly recommend for people with dairy/egg allergies and vegans. The options are very limited on the island - it seems all bread on the Island has eggs, which I found very strange. read more

Enjoyed a Friday night dinner here with 14 family members! Our food included appetizers, drinks and dinner entrees. They were served well and tasted great! We'll be back here again on our next visit!! read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Wednesday evening, last week, around 6:30 before taking a ferry back to the mainland. We checked out the menu outside and went in. The business wasn't particularly busy. We were directed to seat ourselves. We choose to sit up by the front window. An employee came to our table and cleaned it off. We were then ignored for nearly 15 minutes, not even coming to get a drink order. We just got up and walked out without anyone saying anything. We ended up going down to the grocery store on the corner and picked up items to have a picnic in the park across the street below the fort. read more

Out of several restaurant visits over a few days,my wife and I agreed that this place was our favorite. I got chicken and waffles which were made with care and were delicious. My wife got Mac n cheese with brisket which was presented nicely and had amazing flavor. Our waiter was very kind and helpful. Island prices, but large portions and high quality at least. Stop in and see for yourself! read more

Wide ranging menu that is both family friendly and mildly adventurous. Our waiter Anthony gave service worthy of any NYC five star. Food was fresh and delicious. Recommended. read more

Very busy place but we were seated quickly right by the bar wedged in between the bar and cash register. Service is slow, appetizer came out with the meal...what the heck? The drink I ordered sat on the bar right in front of our table and I watched it sit there for 10 min and finally asked another employee who was literally doing nothing but standing at the door with two other employees greeting customers, if I could have my drink and she said " no you will have to wait"...seriously??? Food was fine, good. read more

Favorite bar on the island. The food was good and the bartenders were great! I guess there's nothing that really sets this place apart from everything else on the island but I still found myself coming back. The mac and chz is dynamite if you're hungry. read more

This place was OK. Nothing to write home about (except Yelp). The service is slow but we got right in and seated where every other place welcomed at had lines. Is that a good thing? Oh well. The food was fine. Not bad. Not over the top. It's a place to eat drink and move on to the rest of the island. read more

There were 7 in our group so we tried several dishes. Great selection of beers on draft. The whitefish dip (it's really more of a cold spread) was great. They serve it with flatbread crackers. We had the whitefish soup/chowder and the steak/cheese/beer soup. Both were delicious! The cheese based soup was very rich and flavorful. I could have made that a meal. Both soup bowls were licked clean. We had the fish and chips, cheese burger, blue cheese burger, broiled whitefish dinner and the brisket sandwich. The whitefish was fresh and cooked perfectly! So delicious. Hamburgers were also delicious and juicy. Fried fish was very lightly battered and not greasy at all. The onion rings were crispy just the way I like them. I didn't give it 5 stars because the brisket was pretty bad. It was very dry and had an almost musty taste. I asked for the BBQ sauce on the side. It tasted like typical sauce you get at the grocery store. It was stone cold and combined with the warm sandwich it just didn't work. The French fries were very bland and not very crispy. I thought they were a waste of calories so I didn't eat them. Overall we loved almost everything. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. I will be returning next time we are on the island. read more

The porkys burger with pulled pork, brisket, and a burger was a good deal. Came with fries & a Friendly server. However, brisket was tough and men's room was out-of-order. Wasn't a busy Wednesday, so would hate to see this place on a crowded weekend. read more

Had a great meal and drinks with friends. This was all due to our waitress Ren! She was awesome and thank you for the lip balm too. some of us had breakfast and others lunch. I got the fried whitefish special because it was the best-priced thing on the menu (everything seemed pretty pricey to me, sandwiches started at $14). I liked the fish ok but my friend ordered it too and she thought it was gross and "fishy." Service was good and attentive. For the prices here and underwhelming atmosphere, I recommend you look for a place with a nice patio on the water. You'll probably find a $13 fish dish that tastes better elsewhere. read more
