So spent five days in the area on both sides of the bridge and this was the absolute best meal I had... the server and the cook were both incredibly friendly, helpful and simply never stopped moving. Even though they seemed like the world is on fire they took time to check in on us. Problem was that once the food was dropped off(piping hot no less!) I simply didn't want to stop eating it as it was one of the best patty melts I've ever eaten. The chips were nicely seasoned, perfectly seasoned and delicious as well. Don't be afraid of the store layout inside as it's teeny tiny in there but seating was cozy once we got seated. This place has been around since 1954 slinging burgers... and it shows. Excellent place for breakfast. They were slammed when we got there with us taking the last 2 seats. It still only took us 20 minutes from arrival to paying the check. It was so fast! It's small in there but if you wait you'll get a seat quick. The chef was crazy fast on the grill and fun to watch. The waitresses were so friendly despite being busy, and the food tasted great. With a name like Chuckwagon ... to be honest, I didn't expect much. But it turns out that you shouldn't judge a restaurant by its name, because Chuckwagon served us what was probably the best meal we had on Mackinac Island. And it was the cheapest, too! Blessed from all directions. A patty melt was on the menu, so that's what I got. I can't not get a patty melt if I see one on a menu! This one was beefy and melty, with caramelized red onions between two slices of rye bread. All of the burgers and sandwiches come with plain potato chips and a pickle spear. We also got a regular cheeseburger and bleu cheese burger. All of the burgers are served on a pretzel bun, which is not my favorite type of bun, but I wasn't eating those burgers, and the eaters didn't seem to mind. Chuckwagon has a small kids' menu (the Lil' Buckaroo's Menu), with four items on it. Your kids can choose from a pb & j sandwich, a hot dog, a grilled cheese sandwich and mac & cheese. My little buckaroo chose the mac & cheese, which I believe was Kraft mac & cheese. Kids' menu items don't come with anything additional. This is a small restaurant with limited seating. You can sit at the counter and watch the action happen, or if you're lucky, you can find one of the few tables lining the wall or located in the back of the restaurant. Either way, depending on when you visit, you might encounter a crowd! But I think it's worth it to visit this old-school diner-type restaurant. read more

We ate lunch here upon the suggestion of our kayak tour guide. He said they had the best burgers on the island. I don't know if they are, but they were very good. The place is a diner and VERY small. However, we got a table as soon as we walked in. It was warm inside and cramped, but the service was friendly and quick. The guy in charge, possibly the owner, had a Bengals hat on and we immediately said "Who Dey" because we live in Cincinnati. He responded the same so I felt we had a little bond with the place. I had the Who Dey burger, which was a burger cooked on the flattop with pulled pork, onion rings, slaw, and a sweet sauce. It was very messy but yummy. My wife had the Blue Cheese burger and enjoyed every last bite. Their fries are non-traditional because they are cut in rounds on a spiralizer. They were excellent. read more

Really solid burger at a shocking price. $14 for a plain cheeseburger, + 70c for every extra add, so we thought we might as well order a special with toppings and condiments for closer to $16-17. Rattlesnake and olive burgers were both fantastic, but on the smaller side and served with basic Lays chips. We couldn't justify adding fries for $4 each. Great burgers! I tried the PB & J burger- don't let the habanero jelly scare you, it was very low heat and just a FANTASTIC flavor. The peanut butter was very subtle and it all came together to make just a delicious burger. My husband got your classic cheese burger and rated is a solid burger that he would eat again. This is a diner-style restaurant with counter seating and you can see the cooks on the line. I ordered a breakfast burrito and as it was being prepped half the tortilla was hanging off the counter and touching the trash can. The cook also kept bumping the food with the front crotch of his jeans (no apron). I paid $20 for a burrito that I threw directly in the trash. In the span of 2 days on Mackinaw Island, we came to eat here 3 times (two times for lunch and once for breakfast)! The absolute best spot on the island for an affordable, consistently good meal. There's usually a short line out the door at peak times, but do not be intimidated as it moves faster than you would think! This is because the cooks move incredibly fast and it feels like the food is often ready within 10-15 mins of ordering. I recommend the cheeseburger deluxe with all of the extra toppings! We arrived a little after 8 and had to wait outside for about 5 minutes. By 8:40 there was a line outside so come early. It is a no frills establishment with a one pager menu. I ordered eggs over medium, crisp bacon, toast and hash browns. Everything came out perfectly done. Hubbie ordered the corned beef plate and it was yummy - not overly salty. After seeing such great reviews we decided to go get in line to try them out. I popped my head in to see if we needed to check in and the next woman in the line went "hey! The line is back there!" The folks ahead of us called us through, there was room for two at the counter so we went in. This place is crammed y'all. If you have luggage it's a VERY tight spot. Shoulder to shoulder at the counter, so you really have no room for luggage. Service is friendly, and I ordered the Reuben while hubby ordered the club. Cam's club was ok, but it'd be a sad day if you messed that up. I barely ate mine. The flavor was fine, but if you're going to pile on a ton of slaw onto the sandwich, you need a thicker, firmer bread for it. The bread was falling apart before I could even get the dressing on it.
