It was a great place to stop in and have breakfast. My girlfriend and her family had been here before and wanted to go again. The staff were friendly and engaging the moment we walked into the door. It was def a home style feel to the building and interior. I will say a bit outdated but sometimes those are the gems you don't know you are missing. As we prowled the Sunday morning streets of Cheboygan with growling stomachs and brunch on the brain, Step Inn sounded like an invitation, and we're glad we accepted it. The place was full when we entered, but no one was ahead of us in line. We were seated with mugs of fresh coffee in front of us in five minutes. For food, we stuck to the basics: plates of two eggs/hash browns/toast, with sausage added to mine. Overall it was very good. The toast was thick, possibly homemade, but if not, it still wasn't the kind of industrial-grade bread lots of diners serve, My sausage wasn't greasy or bland in the least (which, again, is something too many diners settle for). Over-medium eggs were verging on hard cooked, but I guess that beats underdone. By the time we finished the line at the back had grown, and I'm sure those in it were glad to see us stand up. Such a cute small town restaurant. A great breakfast and lunch menu, servers that were friendly and communicative and attentive. My husband ordered a burger and said it was one of his favorites, and the homemade chips that came with it were fantastic. I ordered a hot beef and mashed potatoes and the homemade bread it was served on was fantastic. The potatoes and gravy were great. The meat was a bit dry, but the gravy helped. Seems like a newer family owned restaurant, could have some improvements to make it better but it's a nice simple place to grab a quick bite, nothing fancy!! We had a short stack of pancakes (2) and the breakfast wrap with bacon! All the bread products were incredible, the pancakes were very fluffy and the toast was buttery and delicious! We also got the biscuits & gravy and we could've gotten just one, the order of two was huge!!! Delicious food & coffee, fast service, ended up being more expensive than I had expected but we're in a tourist town so I don't blame them for raising the prices a bit! read more

Great Carne Asada Fries and tastes like I'm back at Robertos in Chula Vista 10 years ago before the next generation took it over. If your new to the Mexican food game just go ahead and try that California Burrito, or any of the breakfast burritos , or the tacos, or just order the whole menu, you won't be disappointed. Service was average, I was seated soon enough by the hostess but it took quite awhile for the server to approach me even though there were only about 4-5 tables filled at the time with 2 servers. He also did not check back after the food was served to see if I was satisfied or had any issues. I had a Reuben sandwich accompanied by their very own homemade "chips" which were good enough but the sandwich not so great. PROS: homemade bread, very tasty, the meat was fairly lean which I like, could have been distributed a little better instead of lumped up in one spot but what made the sandwich a bust was it was VERY soggy making it hard to eat, the bread just broke apart all over the place and it was MESSY when trying to eat. I don't know if they overdid the butter(?) when grilling or failed to drain the sauerkraut adequately (if at all), I ordered it without the 1,000 Island dressing so that was not the culprit.
