Long time residence of Alanson will know that Bobs has changed a few times in the last few years. I think everyone was struggling to find their feet on the way back from Covid but I can safely tell you that Bob's is back and in a Big way. Bob's looks looks like you're unassuming neighborhood bar and it is. Come on in and sit at the bar have a beer or a drink or especially crafted cocktail. They are all delicious and you will soon. Find yourself friendly company. The atmosphere is very nice. Very clean and family oriented. Should you be looking for lunch or dinner? You can't find a better spot reasonable prices and great food. There is an actual chef on staff and they have at least eight soups every day or on the salad bar and four in the back that you could order or take home by the court these soups are homemade and delicious. The salad bar is also very fresh and very delicious so hard to find a great restaurant with a fresh all you can eat salad bar anymore. They seem to be a thing of the past, but not at Bob's. Bob's has a menu of delicious sandwiches a few great American entrées and awesome burgers everything that comes out of the kitchen is cooked to the chef's high-quality standards. I really love the specials because they are always different and delicious. I am a local and I go to Bob's probably once a week- don't pass this place by. It's delicious.! read more

We had a quick dinner at Bobs place. Their soup and salad bar were awesome. Food was fresh and plentiful. My husband had the chicken cordon blu sandwich and he loved it. Chicken and blue cheese were plentiful! Although our waitress had several tables she managed them well. Their dinner entrees looked delicious especially the homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. We were starving after striking out on finding anything decent to eat in Paradise, MI (ironically, not much paradise for the taste buds). So, after crossing the bridge, we stumbled into Bob's Place--and I'm convinced the food angels themselves guided us here. I ordered the Reuben, and let me tell you... this was no ordinary sandwich. The corned beef was made in-house--perfectly tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness--not too salty, not too fatty, just chef's kiss perfection. My other half ordered the French Dip with au jus, and honestly, I almost considered a sandwich swap mid-bite. The sub roll was fresh and soft, the beef was rich and flavorful, and that au jus? Liquid gold. Service with Betty was an experience in itself--friendly, attentive, and with the kind of quick wit that makes you feel like you've been a regular for years. What a vibe in such a small town... the food was really good and I love the diner feel. The chef is new and revamping the menu (and bringing back some of the town favorites, which I hear is AMAZING) - I even loved that he came out to say hi, see how we were doing and talk to us about his new menu and specials - so I'm excited to come back and experience more! The servers are always friendly and I really appreciated the small town feel. I tried the chicken caesar wrap and the double smashburger, both absolutely delicious but I'd choose the smashburger first! read more

New owner since March 2025. This chef/owner knows what he"s doing. He has extensive experience at some of our favorite Up North places before buying Bob's. It's really good. The food is all obviously fresh and house-made. No "thaw and bake" stuff here. We had the fish basket and a chicken tortellini special. Both great. Save room for dessert. The red velvet cake is a must. Big portions. Reasonable prices. Friendly and personable staff. And owner Pauly comes out to say hi and check on his customers. 100% a go and try. Bob's is a place trying to be everything in a small town diner, bar, fine dining. It's pleasant enough just lacking that focus. The staff was pleasant and prompt, food came a little on the slow side but not unreasonable. The burger and fries had excellent taste, very nicely done. However the meal was on the pricier side. On our way to Mackinaw we stopped at Bob Place. I had the soup and salad bar. I had two of the 4 soups available. They were so delicious! The salad bar had meat, egg, and cheese choices along with many veggies. My husband had a double smash burger and he said it was amazing. The service was fast and friendly. I almost hate writing this review, because I risk not being able to get a table here. Never in all my life have I felt more welcome or had food worthy of a 5 Star Rating. The ambience is just perfect if you are looking to feel at home. Taylor served us, and in a way you would have thought she owned the place! She takes pride in her craft, and we absolutely felt the best this year of it being the best dining experience. Taylor was polite, explained the dishes, and recommended items. Do yourself a favor and make a stop at Bobs place tops on your list in this area. Food-outstanding -80% if their menu is homemade. Pulled pork chili was superb. Bloody Mary was crazy good. The BBQ Mac and cheese is a warm hug of deliciousness. And Joyce our server is one of our favorite people we have met while in Michigan, she is like your favorite crazy fun aunt you want to visit over and over. My wife and I just met a large - 13 people - for dinner and discussion. The food was wonderful. Most impressive was the service that we received from Melissa DeRue. Not only was she serving our group of 13 in the front, she was also covering another group of 10 or so in the back of the restaurant. She was impeccable! She not only brought us our dinners, she also kept our water glasses and/or drinks filled, without being intrusive. Got 3 eggs over hard burnt bacon and white toast and waited almost 30 minutes for that. They were a little busy but several other groups of 2 were seated well after us and left before, but they had a different server. We also waited almost 20 minutes to order. And the coffee, well we had to beg for it and never did get our water!!!! Definitely would not recommend! read more

Parking could get hanky on the busy season. We stopped in at the end of February around 10am. We got a parking spot right or front but it quickly filled up. We were shown the specials board and tools to seat wherever we'd like. We opted for a table by the window to watch the traffic from highway 31. Waitress came soon afterwards to take our drink order and then returned to take our order. I ordered the Monte Cristo special and hubby ordered the burrito. Mine was delicious with the french toast, but it wasn't breaded but still yummy. I works definitely order this again. The home fries were crispy and seasoned well. The burrito was good and filled with meat and cheese. He got it topped with beer cheese and liked it. Prices are average, $13 for the Monte Cristo and $11 for the burrito. Love trying out local places and this one is a winner...stop in for good food and friendly service. read more

We go to Harbor Springs quite often & love it there, but the only breakfast spot there is a tad "hoi paloi" & expensive. If you want down home bacon & eggs, waffles, hot cakes, etc. this is the place & with the short drive to Alanson! read more

We were very disappointed that my wife's quiet, obedient, in a carry bag, on the floor, 8lb certified service dog caused them to refuse service to us. Their excuse was that some of their customers might be allergic. I recommend that this establishment be avoided. read more

Went there on a Saturday evening with the kids. We were staying at the Crooked River Lodge so just half a mile away. The place looks small from the outside but there is plenty of room inside. When we came there were couple tables full and we were seated right away. The waitress was awesome and was taken good care of us. Food was good, we had the wings, burgers and a Caesars salad. People that work here are super nice and engaging. Service is prompt and wait and bus staff are quick to help/clean. The wet burritos is great. Not overly sauced. Fresh and simple. I am generally worried about Mexican food being heavy, but this was just right. I'd pass on the Wedge Salad. Super heavy on the dill dressing which just overpowers the salad. Dried cherries are a nice touch but I don't think it mixes well with the already acidic dressing. Maybe I'm just longing for the classic which is hard to come by around here. The bar is well stocked but my draft beer wasn't very cold...which set the stage for lower expectations. Will try this place again once the construction was done. Maybe management can get those taps colder by then. ;-) read more

Terrible. Slow service and the food was disgusting. I was hungry when I got there so I tried to eat as much of the buffalo chicken sandwich as I could. Got through about a quarter of it. The actual chicken was about as thin as a quarter, and it had even more breading that I had to scrape off. I couldn't eat most of the actual chicken because of how rubbery it was. Felt sick after eating what I could, got home and threw up. Awful experience. read more

We had an order of cheese curds with ranch to start, very generous portion, could be a meal by itself for someone going lowered carb(deep fried breading) I had French dip with onion rings, very tasty/ hit the spot, mom had lunch shrimp basket, only 4 shrimp and a ton of fries, for the money but they were "jumbo"shrimp. Dad had the special, a bbq pulled pork flatbread (pizza) with onions and mozzarella. Good size portion for 8.99. Similar to shlotzky's just without the jalapeños. Looking at other peoples orders as they come out, portions are worth the money and you could easily have some left over. Including the salads. Service was prompt, polite, restaurant dining area and bathrooms where clean. I didn't think to take any pictures until after eating, so.... I am more than happy to go back there when the time is right. read more

We were enticed by the ad on Facebook for their Saturday night special of Prime Rib, crab legs, potato, vegetable and rolls for $40.00 per person. Much to our disappointment the prime rib was flavorless and overdone, the baked potato cold and a sad display of 2 small crab leg clusters that were tough to crack and may have contained 4oz of meat. The plate presented to us looked nothing like they advertise! The service was confusing as a different server came with menus, drinks, salads, dinner and tab, 6 persons! When asked how our meal was when tab was brought we expressed our disappointment and asked to speak with the manager on duty. After waiting 20 minutes for the MOD we finally paid the bill and left, never to return. Had the restaurant been busy it would have possibly been understandable for a less than perfect meal, however; only 5 tables were full. I expressed my disappointment on their Facebook page only to never receive a reply and they removed the post from the comments. read more

Never order scrambled eggs here! I actually asked if they were eggs at all. It was a small mound of this very mushy, flavorless something that had an awful mouthful. I could not eat them.
