Even though we had to wait an hour, getting here relatively early for dinner, they've made waiting pretty enjoyable. With many small tables and chairs tables overlooking the water, to both an inside and outside bar area, to an area with outdoor games for kids and adults, there's things to occupy the time. The views of lake charlevoix from the large outdoor seating area of the restaurant are terrific. The menu offers a few faves that are hard to find -- such as lobster rolls and the service is great too. We each got a summer salad and added lobster. The portions of lobster were large enough to justify the almost $40 each salad cost with added. We also got fries to share. And we had drinks while waiting for the table. So it wasn't a cheap night, but it was tasty, enjoyable and memorable.

And drool. But for whatever reason, we'd always put it off when visiting our cottage in Moran, Michigan each June. Then today me, my wife, and our dog Jax dropped in. It was EXACTLY how I thought it would be. Old school drive-in vibe, friendly server, and delicious burgers in the comfort of the family SUV. Even the fries and onion rings were perfect. We ordered a plain burger patty for the dog, and our server even brought him a biscuit treat! Who does that? We'll be regulars every time we visit our Yooper friends in our favorite state from now on. There's a Taco Bell next door. Nobody cares lol. Go there now. Unless they're closed. No wonder they have a legacy and long wait time. Ours was 20 minutes this time. We had stopped another time and went in and found out it was over an hour. We passed then because of time constraints but nothing was holding us back this time. If you have passed this iconic place in the past and not stopped, you're missing out. The owner checked on us and shared his story of opening the restaurant. He built the furniture, did the stainless work, tables, benches...all of it! If you've ever been to a Five Guys burger place then you know what to expect as it's basically a UP vibe of a Five Guys knockoff that also offers fish dinners. The burger was really good, and i'd say they actually use a better bun then Five Guys but I did have a little problem with the prices. Now before anyone gets on me for mentioning price, I work in food service and don't have a problem paying but $20 dollars for a single cheese burger and fries (tip) is a little pricey in my humble opinion. On this occasion i took my lunch up the road to the rest stop and ate on beach overlooking Lake Michigan. I feel Clyde's overall is a better burger but I'm certainly looking forward to coming back to try the fish sandwich!!

But the thin style made them cool down FAST, that or mine weren't quite fresh enough. But they were ok to serve. The ranch we ordered for the fries could be improved by not being a salad dressing ranch straight from the saladiest of ranch options. Homemade ranch please. It literally tasted like cheap canned tomato paste. Gross and certainly doesn't blend well on a gyro. Gyros are typically chopped or shaved lamb which makes it easier to eat and helps ensure you're getting more lamb per bite. Served in these strips, it was just falling apart and not blending with the feta. The fries...terrible. Just terrible. $6 to sub truffle fries which seems like too much but I hadn't had them in a long time so had to go for it. Listed in subs it simply says truffle fries, so I didn't know they were going to be covered in liquid cheese. They ARE listed in appetizers with the full description but I didn't look there until after bc I didn't order an appetizer. The cheese was awful, completely overwhelmed the TINY bit of truffle taste, and SO salty! Take a look at the picture and decide for yourself if the gyro and fries is worth $23. I eat a lot of gyros, and this being the most expensive one I've had is the worst. Heads up that they charge a service fee.
