The owners are friendly and welcoming in this charming breakfast spot! You must try their coffee cake, they warm it up before they bring it to you and tastes like it just came out of the oven. I ordered a different version of chilaquiles with chipotle sauce which had a smoky flavor and were dry, not wet. Most places make them with red chile pasilla or tomatillo green salsa. I think you should probably be Caucasian and a typical Lafayetter to dine here or else you might be told very harshly to sign in instead of the person taking a minute to listen to what you're saying, we enjoyed our server very much, but the older white tall gentleman was very curt to the point and annoying. He even asked me to hand him a plate off the table. We will not be back. I did not like their salad they use pre-grated Parmesan the lettuce wasn't as fresh as it could be, and the potatoes were 1/3 raw. We got an omelette and huevos rancheros and it was not the best. One of my kids had chocolate buttermilk pancakes, and the other had PBJ French toast. I had chicken tortilla soup and a chopped salad with chicken. Everything is served hot and fresh. No heat lamps. Prices are quite reasonable compared to many restaurants. Victor, the host and owner, is super friendly and makes you feel at home right away. Today I walked a few steps into the front door of Millie's looking for lunch, having never been there before. I immediately heard a loud "EXCUSE ME" behind me. I turned around to find an adult man staring at me with an annoyed look on his face, beckoning me back outside with his hand. After only a quick second, he raised his eyebrows, pursed his lips, and started waving his hand faster, like a parent annoyed with a small child. I took a few steps back toward him and outside where he pointed at a tiny little sign, placed at waist-level near the door, where you don't notice it, that said in a small, scrawly, artsy font, "Please wait to be seated." He read it aloud for me the second I turned to look at it, before I could myself, again like I was an impudent child or something. No "hi," no "hello," no "sorry about that," not even a smile, just straight-up attitude and impatience spewed carelessly at a newcomer. Thus far, I hadn't said a thing. I'd have been happy to wait outside if he had asked politely (or even just not so rudely). I looked at him a moment, then when he didn't say anything further, I asked if he worked here. He said HE WAS THE OWNER. I said "Well, that was kind of rude," to which he responded "BYE" and walked inside. You can tell a lot about a business from the way they treat their customers. In this case, we have an OWNER who treats strangers like children when they don't take notice of his cute little sign like it's a freeway billboard. Today it cost him a local customer for life, as I don't plan on ever returning and would recommend the same to others looking to be treated maturely and respectfully in a polite society. read more

The owner is incredibly rude. Don't waste your time coming here for the food as the service and treatment by the owner leaves you very uncomfortable. I'm used to having blunt and direct service from busy restaurants but this was completely different - the service was mean spirited and clearly just wanted us out of there asap. Ordered pickup two times. The first time, he was very blunt and demanded I stay outside to wait. I didn't even get a chance to say my name for the pickup when I was rudely brushed off. I got my order shortly after so I dismissed it as they might just be overly busy and didn't want folks crowding indoors. However, this second time- same thing happened and it was much worse. I can understand restaurants being busy but there's no need to be rude even if it's just pick up. They can just let us know politely to wait outside while they attend to other customers. If they can't handle the additional traffic, then they should stop offering pick up / delivery orders altogether. From the comments, it looks like similar treatment was for certain groups of dine in customers as well. You can get a much better experience and more pleasant service elsewhere in the many restaurants in the area read more

This long-standing Lafayette staple has unfortunately declined over the years. Like many other reviewers, I felt the food lacked care and quality. It almost seemed as if the pride once put into the dishes is gone. The yogurt parfait was unappetizing (we couldn't get through more than a few bites), the salad was bland, and the chicken was dry. Even their "famous" coffee cake felt underwhelming and forgettable. It's disappointing to see a family business with such history lose its spark. With this prime location, there is such potential for a fresh breakfast concept and improved dining experience. I thought the food was pretty decent and I like that this place is a relatively low key brunch spot, at least compared to most brunch spots I've eaten at in the Bay Area. The wait wasn't long on a Saturday morning but parking is not fun at all. The parking lot is pretty tight too so you kinda need to get lucky if you don't want to park on the street or worse, that steep little hill next to the restaurant. I saw patrons absolutely struggle to get out of that area when they were leaving. If I ate here again, with the benefit of hindsight, I would make sure to tell my waiter that I want my eggs to be much runnier than they were today. The eggs on my benny were essentially hard boiled eggs which, while not a bad thing, are not my favorite. The potatoes also could've been cooked longer since I found them kind of hard. These faults didn't stop me from cleaning my plate though since I'm fat. The chocolate chip pancakes were my favorite thing to eat here and I'd probably order those again. read more

This place was always one of my to go places for breakfast- good food, reasonably priced and good coffee. Not sure when the owners changed. About 6 months ago I ate there and was disappointed. Decided to try again this week. I ordered something simple - avocado toast. Was served only 1 thin slice of wheat toast, with hardly any avocado, a fair amount of tomatoes and an abundance of arugula to apparently cover up the lack of avocado. It was definitely not worth the price charged. And if that wasn't bad enough, the coffee tasted old. Since the place was pretty empty, I'm guessing the coffee had been sitting around for a bit. I arrived at 9:20 am on Sunday morning. I was meeting my son at 9:30. There were several empty tables and there was no one waiting. The outside had an odor of stale pee. I went in and stood in the room waiting. The owner finally looked at me and told me to go outside and sign in and wait to be seated. I went back outside, signed in for two. He finally came back out and showed me to a tiny table crammed into a corner just under the counter where the servers pick up meals from the kitchen. We got the kids french toast and chocolate chip pancakes as well as the corned beef hash and a coffee. Everything was delicious. The corned beef is house made. Big chunks of meat and potatoes instead of the shredded beef and potatoes at mist places. They put a mustard sauce on it as well. Hearty and delicious. The kids portions were large and tasty. My nephew wanted to compliment the cooks, and we were told "we speak English here". We also had to get up for our own silverware. He made sure everyone else coming in had utensils. Very disappointed today when we went to Millie's. We ordered a Ca. Scrambled and we were served an omelette. We asked to take it back and give us the scrambled that we ordered. They took it back and two minutes later they came back and what they really did is just took the omelette and scrambled it up. They didn't even do a good job because we could tell what they did. I took my Granddaughter Hannah to Millie's American Kitchen and we had a great experience. She just turned 3 a few months ago, but she is old (and Jewish) enough to express her opinion. She gave it a big thumbs up and ate most of her pancakes and coffee cake. I finished what she couldn't eat and took most of my Chilaquiles (sp?) home.
