One of my kids had chocolate buttermilk pancakes, and the other had PBJ French toast. I had chicken tortilla soup and a chopped salad with chicken. Everything is served hot and fresh. No heat lamps. The owner is incredibly rude. Don't waste your time coming here for the food as the service and treatment by the owner leaves you very uncomfortable. I'm used to having blunt and direct service from busy restaurants but this was completely different - the service was mean spirited and clearly just wanted us out of there asap. Ordered pickup two times. The first time, he was very blunt and demanded I stay outside to wait. I didn't even get a chance to say my name for the pickup when I was rudely brushed off. I got my order shortly after so I dismissed it as they might just be overly busy and didn't want folks crowding indoors. However, this second time- same thing happened and it was much worse. I can understand restaurants being busy but there's no need to be rude even if it's just pick up. They can just let us know politely to wait outside while they attend to other customers. If they can't handle the additional traffic, then they should stop offering pick up / delivery orders altogether. From the comments, it looks like similar treatment was for certain groups of dine in customers as well. You can get a much better experience and more pleasant service elsewhere in the many restaurants in the area read more

This long-standing Lafayette staple has unfortunately declined over the years. Like many other reviewers, I felt the food lacked care and quality. It almost seemed as if the pride once put into the dishes is gone. The yogurt parfait was unappetizing (we couldn't get through more than a few bites), the salad was bland, and the chicken was dry. Even their "famous" coffee cake felt underwhelming and forgettable. It's disappointing to see a family business with such history lose its spark. With this prime location, there is such potential for a fresh breakfast concept and improved dining experience. I arrived at 9:20 am on Sunday morning. I was meeting my son at 9:30. There were several empty tables and there was no one waiting. The outside had an odor of stale pee. I went in and stood in the room waiting. The owner finally looked at me and told me to go outside and sign in and wait to be seated. I went back outside, signed in for two. He finally came back out and showed me to a tiny table crammed into a corner just under the counter where the servers pick up meals from the kitchen. I pointed to another empty table and asked if I could sit there. He said no, that this was the only table available. I told him that I would be dining somewhere that actually valued customers. I thought the food was pretty decent and I like that this place is a relatively low key brunch spot, at least compared to most brunch spots I've eaten at in the Bay Area. The wait wasn't long on a Saturday morning but parking is not fun at all. The parking lot is pretty tight too so you kinda need to get lucky if you don't want to park on the street or worse, that steep little hill next to the restaurant. I saw patrons absolutely struggle to get out of that area when they were leaving. If I ate here again, with the benefit of hindsight, I would make sure to tell my waiter that I want my eggs to be much runnier than they were today. The eggs on my benny were essentially hard boiled eggs which, while not a bad thing, are not my favorite. The potatoes also could've been cooked longer since I found them kind of hard. These faults didn't stop me from cleaning my plate though since I'm fat. The chocolate chip pancakes were my favorite thing to eat here and I'd probably order those again. read more

Was served only 1 thin slice of wheat toast, with hardly any avocado, a fair amount of tomatoes and an abundance of arugula to apparently cover up the lack of avocado. It was definitely not worth the price charged. And if that wasn't bad enough, the coffee tasted old. Since the place was pretty empty, I'm guessing the coffee had been sitting around for a bit. I have been going to Millie's time to time over the years. I had a chance to go for a Saturday morning breakfast and I took it! Millie's did not disappoint. Staff were friendly and food was yummy. We got the kids french toast and chocolate chip pancakes as well as the corned beef hash and a coffee. Everything was delicious. The corned beef is house made. Big chunks of meat and potatoes instead of the shredded beef and potatoes at mist places. They put a mustard sauce on it as well. Hearty and delicious. The kids portions were large and tasty. I took my Granddaughter Hannah to Millie's American Kitchen and we had a great experience. She just turned 3 a few months ago, but she is old (and Jewish) enough to express her opinion. She gave it a big thumbs up and ate most of her pancakes and coffee cake. I finished what she couldn't eat and took most of my Chilaquiles (sp?) home. It had been awhile (+/- 40 years) since I had been to Millie's so I was curious to see what the new owners had done. The coffee cake was always the signature "go to" item back in those swim team and high school sports days but the rest of the food back then bordered on "greasy spoon" fare. I miss old Millie's like everyone misses old Millies :( First of all, didn't even know it changed and is under new management and new menu but kept Millie's name?!$ What in the world. Definitely did not earn the name. They really should have a sign or something and if they do and I missed it, my bad. It's post Covid and I don't know how many changes we can take. Yikes! Not the same ambiance. Not the same food. Not the same service. Not the same crowd. Not the same satisfied feeling when you leave. Not the same anything other than the location. I get that it's different but it's just not the same. The food was just alright 2-3 star range. I hope it gets better over time for those who come thinking it's Millie's. I think it's going to take a few tries at the menu to get it right. I brought newbies here thinking it was Millie's and nope.... disappointing. Such a feeling of nostalgia with Millie's, went to Miramonte so would frequent this spot in my younger years. I'm now in my early 40's and finally returned today with my sisters! The service was impeccable. The new owner was witty, kind and sincere! Our server was also very warm and welcoming, brought back those warm , fuzzy feelings. The food was fantastic! My go to is the breakfast burrito, I added bacon, avocado, and and the chipotle sauce. It was a 10/10, I'm craving it now as I write this review. If you go in not knowing what Millie's used to be, this place is alright. It's not the no frills diner breakfast it used to be, but an updated bistro menu with things like avocado toast, and beer battered shrimp tacos. I tried to order the corned beef hash which I had been craving, but unfortunately they were out due to supply issues. Also, they don't serve all-american type combos with eggs any style with a pancake and hashbrowns (they serve breakfast potatoes instead and either an egg plate OR a sweet plate), which had been my second craving. I ended up getting the chilaquiles, which were just ok - the portion was huge and I was not even close to finishing it. They also serve Equator coffee which I had gotten excited about, but they really butcher it. The latte was 90% milk and the regular coffee was also blegh - both very under extracted. Sometimes that shitty bottomless diner coffee is actually better and just hits the spot. As for the service, I feel really bad for the owner and his partner. You can tell that duo works HARD - the owner is constantly running the food to tables - did not see him take even a 30 second breath in the 1.5 hours were there. HIs partner is the only one taking orders, chatting with the patrons, and trying to make the atmosphere a friendly place. The rest of the staff are a bunch of kids who the majority were not super friendly, or were hanging in the back texting. Only one of them was actually bringing tables their drinks and doing his job. All in all, I'd probably come back for the coffee cake - it was DELICIOUS, actually might've been more moist than Millie's used to have it. But the rest definitely didn't satisfy my simple diner breakfast craving. read more
