We were on the hunt for dessert this past Saturday night after looking at Christmas lights. I've heard good things about this place so we decided to give it a try. I don't understand this spot. There's coffee, with a good sized menu of coffee options. There's long tables you can reserve for groups; the night we were there they were occupied by the Wichita sketch club. There's desserts: I tried a raspberry icebox pie that has fallen over a bit. And there's custard that is more like glistening soft serve. An interesting twist is flavored waffle cones, not coated with something but the actual batter is flavored. I wonder if perhaps there are times of the day when the coffee culture and dessert culture clash a bit? Perhaps it's a happier place in the morning when it's all coffee people? The place is a cute set up with open windows it has amazing lighting inside the establishment. They have a mini gift shop and very reasonable price! They have amazing Japanese drip coffee set up that I did not personally try but seems to be what they are known for. They have a seasonal menu so with the employee recommendation I tried the butter-beer cheese cake and the biscoff poptart. The butter beer cheese cake fell short for me wasn't too sweet but the whip cream was sweet and delicious. The cream cheese cake itself was very creamy and delicious but nothing special to it. The presentation as you can see in the picture is so pretty had glitter all over the cheesecake and whip cream it was definitely a magical touch the flavor fell short for me. Last off I got the biscoff poptart as a last minute buy and I was highly impressed. The crust was light and airy and had a very flakey consistency and was perfect to go with the filling. The filling of the biscoff filling was very well filled and was a heavy ratio to the crust which made it even better. I was worried that the poptart was going to be doughy and no filling but it was the exact opposite. I could not recommend that poptart enough! read more

Visited this cute dessert shop with my cousins. We got the chocolate cheesecake and lavender lemon cookie! The chocolate cheesecake was decadent, full of flavor, a chocolate lover's dream come true. The ganache on top of the cheesecake left a nice aftertaste. The lavender lemon cookie was very light and delightful. I loved how the cookie had lavender scents coming off of it - it was refreshing and relaxing. The girl behind the counter demonstrated optimal customer service and was very informative regarding the different desserts. She disclosed that the bakery creates a new menu every 2 months! Apparently, the pop tarts here are very popular. I'm planning a return very soon to try a pop tart! Edit: 6.28.18 - from 4 stars to 3 stars I came back today for the pop tart. The girl serving me today was very condescending (totally different from the awesome service I received last night). She made me feel stupid for asking questions. She made me feel rushed and asked if I wanted my dessert in a to go box. It was an hour before closing, and she seemed to be rushing me just to get off. She even slammed the glass door of the dessert display after serving my pop tart. However, the pop tart was still very good- just terrible and rude service. She made me very upset. A nice little place with large community tables, I believe there are a few smaller tables as well. Service is very friendly, patient, and helpful. They have so many choices when it comes to sweets that it can be a little overwhelming especially because everything sounds so delicious. Their coffee is pretty average, but their desserts and pastries are delicious. What I had: 1) Peppermint Chocolate Mousse Pie: the filling was a very airy chocolate mousse that just spreads throughout your mouth and tickles all of your taste buds as you take a bite. The peppermint kicks in a little after the chocolate and just teases your taste buds. The crust adds a nice texture to the pie and brings everything together into one unified delicious bite. 2) Homemade Strawberry Pop Tarts: absolutely spot on. The pastry is nice a fluffy, with a little bit of a crunch for texture. The strawberry filling is well made and has a good strawberry flavor without being too sweet. They do often change their menu, but from what I know the pop tarts are usually available. Overall, a great place to grab a quick dessert or some sweets to go. This is such a cool cafe. I wasn't sure where we were when we walked in because it is such a huge open space. There were some long tables and then a bunch of board games. Then we got to the middle of the space and saw the delicious desserts. We really wanted to try everything here after hearing our friends' experiences. We had a big group with us so we were able to try a few different things. My daughter loved her gingerbread pop tart and the rest of us were obsessed with the cookie butter pie. I enjoyed my s'mores Tart and iced chai latte! The girl behind the counter was very friendly and informative about the menu. The atmosphere was very casual and comfortable. The girl told us that every dessert they make are made fresh every morning before they open. My husband had a Japanese cold brew with sweet tea and some mint simple syrup. I sampled it and it was good. I'm not a big cold brew fan though. My husband also had a slice of the passion fruit cake. I tried it as well. The flavor was very subtle and you caught it at the end of your bite. If you aren't a fan of things that are overly sweet then this is for you. We will definitely be back. read more

Milkfloat was a really nice establishment, very minimalist. They have TONS of seating; an open space concept. I am excited to bring big groups of my family and friends here for a fun night of desert! I will also probably frequent here as a place to sit down and get work done; the environment is very coffeeshop-esque. This vegan chocolate cake in a jar was phenomenal- so rich and flavorful, not to mention visually appealing. My little sister and I shared it and still couldn't finish the whole thing. For $5.00 this was a great deal! They have tons of unique deserts too, like home made pop tarts! It is all VERY affordable and appears to be high quality. I spoke with the owner who is SUPER approachable and lovely. They rotate their menu every 2 months, so they will always have new stuff to try. (This only worries me because I don't need all that sugar in my life but I don't think I'll be able to resist.) They have been open 6 months and are owned and operated by a local Wichita man. Their coffee is sourced from a small farm in another state nearby who grows their beans on a farm in Central America somewhere. I got a drip coffee and it wasn't bad! The name "Milkfloat" makes me think of Christina Tosi's Momofuku Milk Bar, not just because the names are similar but because there's an element of experimentation and whimsy at this Delano restaurant that mimics that extremely popular NYC restaurant I've never visited. Plus there's the large open interior that features a lot of wood and natural light in a way that indicates a hip and modern restaurant in a way that has only begun to catch on in the ICT. But mostly it's because they also offer cereal milk, the creation of which is largely attributed to Tosi. The newspaper first called Milkfloat a "dessert restaurant," which was a disservice because it made you expect the place to be something that it's not. It's a bakery that serves coffee. Or maybe it's secretly a coffeeshop that serves pastry, but I'll get to that in a minute. Chances are that Milkfloat will have something you will like. Chances are that you will hesitate for a second when considering the price of some of those things, but you're already in line and, hey, TREAT YO SELF. It all looks pretty, served up on a wooden block and ready for your favorite Instagram filter. The popular items seem to be the homemade Twinkies and Pop-Tarts, both of which are in and of themselves modified versions of actual baked goods to begin with, so there's not too much of a leap of faith here for the homemade versions. The Not-a-Twinkie sponge cake tastes good and the homemade frosting tastes better than the real thing, but it's gone pretty quickly. The homemade Pop-Tarts are much more tender than the boxed variety, so you won't mind if you get a bite that doesn't have filling. The cake pops are cute, though there was too much frosting for the amount of cake. They rotate through desserts, particularly pie, very frequently, so there's a lot of opportunity for variety. I can't think of the last time I saw a banoffe pie in a display case, but Milkfloat's rendition was everything I was looking for: rich and sweet with a great depth of flavor from the dulce de leche, with plenty of distinctive banana flavor and a hearty whipped cream. Their drink menu should be considered on equal footing as their desserts, because it's just as creative. This is perhaps the first egg cream I've found in Wichita, and it's one of many interesting non-coffee drinks that pop up from time to time. Their coffee game is on point, too, with beans from Tulsa's Topeca Coffee. Having a Japanese cold brew and enjoying the full flavor spectrum that it provides I realized that Milkfloat may not always be 100% successful at everything they put out, but they offer so many good things and do them so well that there's bonus points to be found here for creativity. Wichita needs more businesses that are willing to challenge their customers and push the envelope, but just the fact that Milkfloat can thrive in 2017 is proof enough that we're headed in the right direction. read more

this is probably the #1 dessert spot in ICT. personally, i think the pie/cheesecake-type items are the best bet. my absolute fav is the animal cookie truffle pie -- can't beat it. i like their blueberry puff pastry danish, though the dough is a bit drier than i'd like (not sure why?) but the cream/blueberries definitely makes up for it. got donut muffin once and while it was tasty, it was wayyy more than i bargained for lol! very heavy but tasty. as far as drinks, i usually opt for the japanese style cold brew bc it's the only place in town that has that, at least that i'm aware of. this wouldn't be my first choice for coffee alone, but their coffee isn't bad by any means. the dessert menu is obv the star of the show! read more

This place is one of the cutest coffee shops I've ever explored around Wichita. It wasn't hard to find since the name "Milkfloat" is decaled on the front windows. The shop is super spacious when you walk in, and the register/kitchen area is placed in the middle. There are long and small tables set up around the shop, and the amount of natural sunlight is perfect if you were to do a photoshoot The menu is placed at the end of the line and next to the bakery display. Everything is baked in-store, so the pastries should be fresh. I haven't tried any yet, but they all looked delicious! My sister & I ordered 2 hot chocolates, and we sat at the small table next to the wall as we wait for the workers to make the drinks. I really like the design and environment of the shop, because of how quiet and clean it is. As I looked around, I see people meeting up with friends, studying or just surfing on the Interweb. Ps, they have free Wifi! The worker messed up my order because he thought I also ordered a small hot cocoa like my sister, but I ordered the large one instead. I corrected him and he remade my drink from scratch. The hot chocolate was cute and definitely picture-worthy. We spent some time taking pictures before chugging the entire cup down. It tasted really sweet & chocolately, I don't think I like it much-- (I can't handle too much sweet). But the walls, chairs, tables, etc are all picture worthy!
