First time here and we'll definitely be going back. My daughter said this is her new favorite place. The choices seemed endless, it was affordable and everything is fresh. It was packed with people getting trays full of pastries and we got WAY more than we planned on but couldn't help with all the delicious choices. We ended up with 2 boxes and a bag full of stuff (not all shown in the pictures) for $28. We tried the strawberry cupcakes when we got home and they were spectacular! I live not far from this bakery and go there often! The smell of freshly baked pastries greets you as you walk into the door. Everything is displayed neatly on shelves along the wall. You grab a tray and a pair of tongs off the counter and make your selections before going up to the cashier. The cashier rings up your purchase and puts your pastries in a To-go box. Everyone who works there has always been very friendly. In the mornings they have a hot box full of breakfast burritos and such they sell. My gf took me here on a Friday early morning. We must've came at a perfect time because the bakers were just putting in the freshly baked pastries and bread on the shelves. These were coming straight off the oven where it was hot and soft looking. I personally never stepped foot into one of these Mexican bakeries. We have lots back home but I have never been to one. I'm so glad I got to go inside one and with a person who knows her stuff about each item. The items I wanted to try were their apple filled empanadas and their classic pan dulce. The crust and breading of their empanada was flaky and light tasting. The apple was just filled lightly with little syrup into it. This was a good thing because something too sweet would do too much. This is a must try! Their sweet bread was good too! I ate it with coffee which creates a great pair btw! anyway, the dough had a dryness to it but I'm sure this may be the way it's suppose to be. The pink sugar coated top wasn't as sweet as I thought it'd be and once again, this is great for me! All my life I've been wanting to try Pan Dulce and the time I finally eat one is here in KS lmao! wow! This bakery is clean and tidy. This is a really authentic Mexican bakery. Their are soooo many pastries laid out across the walls. You are given a tray and tongs to go choose what you want so you can take your time. The prices are pretty good from .75 to around 1.50 and they are so worth it. A lot of the pastries taste like layers of phillo dough, like little hints of heaven. I will be back. read more

My favorite Wichita bakery! They have a large variety of freshly made pastries that all taste amazing. The prices are great (cheaper than donut shops in the area) and they also have other items such as tortillas, candy, and tamales that are wonderful as well... They have many flavors of items like cinnamon, cherry, strawberry, pineapple, chocolate, etc. The one thing though that bothers me a little is the open display case. Theres a large wall of pastries in an open case that anyone has access too. Children can grab at items and people can cough all over everything. They give you a tray with no liner and tongs that you can find laying on the front counter. Thats the only thing keeping me from rating the store 5 stars. My husband and I went to pickup an order at the south Seneca location yesterday and we were not greeted upon entering the building. The person behind us was greeted, though. When it was my turn to pick up my order, I got a cold stare and "andele." Nothing more. The transaction was not warm or welcoming at all. No "thank you" or "come again." My favorite bakery in town! My sister loves to get coffee here. I'm not a big fan of coffee, but I do love the fact that you're able to get your caffeine and sugary needs as early as 7AM. It's hardly ever packed, but there are customers walking in and out throughout the day, which is nice because it most likely means they continue to make fresh baked goods from the AM to PM. Before looking at your options, it's probably a good idea to grab one of the trays and tongs located on the counter. It's almost impossible to get only one item. Trust me. I usually get at least three or four different items. I always get churros and I always make sure I get enough for my big sister as she loves their churros. I think they also have cakes and ice cream though I've never tried any. I'm sure they're all delicious. Besides being a bakery, Juarez is also a mini convenient store. I can fudge my way through many a savory Mexican meal, but I'm in uncharted territory when it comes to Mexican bakeries. The promise of a sweet treat is universal, though the odd shapes and unnatural colors can throw me for a loop. It doesn't help that Juarez doesn't have the most intuitive setup - you have to come to the register to get a tray, then walk over to the other side of the store to choose your pastries. I soldiered on, however, and my efforts were ultimately rewarded with a paper bag filled with a hodgepodge of whatever looked good. The two Mexican desserts with which I am intimately familiar - churros and tres leche cake - were both not in stock, so the following is a list of what I may or may not have purchased based upon independent Internet research I have waited perhaps too long to start before writing this review: -Yo-yos - take two scones, heavily dust them in sugar crystals, and smoosh them together with some jam to make a sandwich. -Polvorones - tri-colored almond cookies -Conchas - sweet shell-shaped pastry There's also a few shelves of grocery-type items, and you should buy some tortillas while you're there, too. In any case, it's not like there's a surplus of Mexican bakeries in town, and Juarez is friendly enough to make everyone feel welcome even if they don't know exactly what the hell they're buying. read more

While I was raised in south Wichita, I have lived in New Orleans for 50 years. I was in town last weekend for a meeting and did some exploring to find new creative food in Wichita. While I did find some great places, the biggest surprise and most exceptional of all was the discovery of this Hispanic family bakery on Waco. I also taught ESL and have fallen in love with all types of international foods. I was literally "the kid in the candy store" there. So many wonderful Mexican pastries! I did not even know where to begin. Since it was my last day in town, and I was alone, I knew that I had to keep my purchases to a minimum. Whoa! Truly tough decisions. At 7 in the evening, the store had a continual stream of patrons. I had a cookie and a fruit (apricot) hand pie. Such a shame when there were so many wonderful breads, cookies available. Another thing I loved was the almost "plastic-free" environment. Yes, it is also a grocery store and pre-packaged items used plastic but all the fresh food was packaged in paper bags or boxes! I also want to refute the review of a person who felt that the personnel in the store were not personal. I think we need to keep in mind that this is a store owned and run by immigrants. They may also hire recent immigrants whose English abilities may be limited. The people in the store were efficient and competent. Please remember that if a person in an ethnic store or restaurant isn't "Chatty" that English may be a second language that they are working on. SUPPORT THIS STORE AND BE KIND! read more

I moved to Wichita from New England, where ridiculously amazing Italian bakeries are a dime a dozen. But since moving here I've been having a lot of trouble finding bakeries in general, let alone amazing ones - and I'm so, so happy to report that Juarez is one amazing bakery! I wandered in having no idea what to expect and was greeted by lots of fresh racks of pastries and breads. Their shop is extremely clean and well kept, and has a very welcoming atmosphere - you grab a tray and set of tongs, and help yourself to their outstanding selection of baked goods. Their prices are also fantastic - I got several treats and some bread for barely 4 dollars! I'll definitely be back, especially for their sweet breads. I love this bakery!! It is my favorite, I don't eat sweets too often but when I want to indulge in a "pastelico" I go here. My favorite is a small cake that is a white cake on top then has a strawberry filling with an icing and sprinkles on top!! The whole place smells so yummy and sweet!! They also have sell churros, which are like small fried long doughnuts- almost but not quite! This little mexican bakery is awesome. Fresh pastries daily and one of the best tres leche cakes I have ever tasted!!! The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because sometimes they are out of the tres leches and that is what I go there for. However, my children love the other pastries... and we love how everything is displayed mexicano style, it gives the place a very authentic feel. Most items are not priced, because they will make up whatever price they want that day. If you keep coming in for the same item, they will raise the price up and up and up until you do not put up with it anymore. They know I will call them out on it and apparently they do not care. I will never go back there again. Maybe they only over charge white people? I don't mind, they will never get my money again. It's almost all junk food anyway, the smell alone is enough to develop diabetes. I hate to say it, but sometimes they do have the best avocados in town, but they are also twice as expensive as dillons. Once they see you coming back for them, they'll charge more and more and more.
