First time trying Papa's and did so at the Douglas location! Get there before 5 pm, as the parking lot is small and gets full rather quickly after that time. The young man behind the counter was very patient with a first-timer. Got a Reeces Rendezvous Extreme Shake! They look exactly like their pictures online; they are HUGE! ! The jar may be little, but the toppings are tall. Eat the toppings quickly because you'll find yourself in a competition to eat it before it melts. Just laughed at myself trying to keep up with it! I think they are meant to be drank, considering they put ice cream and crumbs around the rim of it and I didn't see any spoons at the counters, only forks and knives. But it's possible! In Wichita visiting family and friends and couldn't resist stopping in to cool down with some ice cream. The building holds a classic exterior blending in with the neighborhood, but adventure awaits inside. The menu offers a variety of ice creams, coffees, shakes, etc. There was a line to the door when we arrived but that quickly diminished as the staff moved efficiently to help everyone. My wife had a couple of scoops, I went for the "Death by Chocolate" shake cuz when in Wichita!!! The shake hit the spot, and many future spots. The thing was sweet without being too sweet. The balance of chocolates was just right. The thickness was about medium...enough to allow me to suck it through a standard straw. We sat in the ice cream fiberglass sculpted chairs because... why not?! Noticed some young kids laughing and having a good time in the dry cereal corner watching some classic cartoons. It was a total Norman Rockwell moment, a glimpse into the past of good clean fun with a tasty treat. The fun continued upstairs where the second level is setup with tables and a large selection of board games. If not into gaming, there were racks of cool and unique socks that can be purchased. This place feels a lot like the ice cream store I would frequent in Burbank, CA during the 80s as a kid growing up. Mongoose BMX bike parked out front, quarters in hand to play a round of Donkey Kong or Defender, and hanging with friends eating ice cream. Highly recommend!!!! Right when we walked in we were treated like family! Both employees were just the sweetest and let our 3 year old taste whatever he wanted before making his choice... pistachio with M&Ms ‍. The ice cream was great! This is one of them fancy sweet shops that serve wild milk shakes and what not. It ain't no dollar cone from Braums that's for sure, you are going to pay for the fancy but it isn't outrageous.
