This small family run/owned restaurant in Boca is a keeper. It fronts right into us 1 (Federal Hwy) so just drive around the corner and park behind it. You can walk in the back doorway which is marked. It only has 6 tables plus the gelato and pastry cases and a counter. Both the owner and his wife are hands on. After our lunch, we had a nice chat. They are both from Bari, Italy. The owner used to captain a fishing boat in Italy so if you're thinking about ordering fish, do so. He only orders small amounts each day -- fresh from the market. So when it runs out, that's it. We each had an order of the soup of the day -- minestrone. It had lots of vegetables in a tomato based broth. Adding grated cheese helped jazz it up. Nice size bowl. Then we shared a sandwich -- their "Milano". This has smoked salmon, capers, tomatoes, artichoke hearts with a seasoned mayo on a pressed warm crusty ciabatta bread. Very good. You could tell the salmon was house cured which was confirmed when we asked about it later (heard the recipe). They have a case of homemade cakes and pastries. I only tried one plain cookie (Dr on Monday) but there were a number of intriguing options plus gelato. I probably wouldn't order soup again as I definitely want to try some of their other sandwiches or maybe their antipasto salad. I moved to Delray less than a year ago and I've been searching for a great italian restaurant since then. Most places around me are expensive fine dining with an Italian flare at best, or at worst about as authentic as an Olive Garden in Alabama. I have finally found my mecca. This place hit all of the wickets. Family owned, cozy, and food oriented. I had a delicious cappuccino and then the lunch menu's chicken piccata. The portioning was perfect and the price was amazing for what I got. It's the kind of place I want to bring all of my friends, but at the same time I want it all for myself. I want to try everything here, I feel great even hours after eating here. When I eat bad Italian I feel like a bag of smashed garbage after. I would have taken a "before" picture of my meal but...after one bite I blacked out and it disappeared. Also, apparently for dinner you gotta make a reservation, so keep that in mind. read more

The folks who own this place are legit Italian. It's a gelateria that doubles as a ristorante. My lasagna was a marinara lagoon. I expected the Lady of the Sauce Lake to hold aloft Excalibur, or at least a breadstick. The taste of the sauce? Wow. Simple. Wonderful. Lasagnas are all about rich layers of contrast in flavors and textures fusing. It didn't happen here. Less sauce, a bit better construction and bake would have made a big difference. The cheese on top was underwhelming and needed a bit more melt to get to that baked brown rather than an undercooked Kraft mural. Pazienza. We weren't in a rush. Don't rush the prep. No beer or wine? Perche?! Service was good, and they really wanted to please us. We were the only ones in the restaurant and they must have come back about 10 times to ask us if it was okay. It went from passion to feeling a bit awkward and needy. Less is more there too. I came because Yelpers whose reviews that I enjoy had a great meal here. I probably ordered the wrong thing. As you can see from the comments from the owner below, they are both very desirous of excellence, which you have to applaud them for, and maybe missing the customer experience just a bit. I was there to have dinner with my son who I see about two times a year, and talk. While I might be one of the few people who will engage a restauranteur, manager and/or chef to have a discussion about a bad experience, I generally don't engage for a good, not great one, especially when I'm busy with other things. I needed to escape the pretense of Boca Raton without actually leaving. If you are in need of an excellent meal and don't need to impress anyone other than yourself, then visit Giuseppe's. This is a bare bones operation that serves surprisingly good food, and doesn't charge a fortune. I like fresh seafood served in light sauce's. Giuseppe's serves very fresh seafood that is properly cooked, and the chef doesn't overdo it with herb's or garlic. Byob is a plus. I can't wait to return. read more

We got takeout from this restaurant a few weeks back but left on a trip and forgot to write this review. Yelp's ordering platform did not provide the owner with my desired pickup time which was 5:30pm. I placed my order at around 2 pm and was surprised when the owner called me and told me my order was ready 30 minutes later. I explained what had happened and the owner was so gracious and kind about it. He didn't penalize me for the issue and dealt directly with yelp. When my husband showed up at 5:30, the owner told him that he had remade our order because he is so dedicated to fresh and delicious food. I had told him he didn't need to remake it, he could just pop it in the fridge and I could reheat it for dinner but he just wasn't having that - he wanted me to have a delicious meal and we did. We got the items pictured below for a romantic picnic at home and I cannot rave enough about the quality of ingredients which were superb, the presentation which was incredibly appetizing, specially considering this was takeout! And the sauce. Oh my god the sauce was impeccable! Just like in Italy! The tiramisu was also delightful! I cannot wait to go back here and enjoy the delicious decadent food again. The antipasto platter with the fresh loaf of bread was so mouthwatering. The chicken Parmesan was tender and perfectly cooked. The pasta was clearly made from scratch. This is a very quaint place that you can call ahead and tell them what you want and he makes it fresh. I went with my girlfriend and she had the lobster (you can pick out which lobster you want) and I had the scallops. The risotto was done to perfection and the scallops were amazing. The chef did a very light breading on the top and the sauce that came with them was amazing. I realize a lot of people may not love scallops due to the grittiness, but these were probably the cleanest tasting ones I have had. Not pictured, but we also had a salad with the freshest burrata cheese I have ever had. Italian restaurants are ubiquitous in South Florida, and they're either on one or another side of the price spectrum, never really in the middle. Granted the higher end ones usually will give you that exclusive, fine dining feel, which should warrant the premium paid. But we don't always want a long drawn-out dinner in order to get high quality. It would be nice to have somewhere on a smaller scale which can provide that same quality, with quicker bites, at a relatively fair price. Welp Yelp...that's where Giuseppe's comes along! Firstly, praise and appreciation goes out to the couple who own and run the place. They come from Bari, Italy, and take the utmost pride and care in their product. The husband told me that he cares about the ingredients because what he cooks for us customers, is what he eats himself. He even showed me the tomatoes he buys, which he explained take longer to ripe, but taste better, versus the ones that are ready immediately that other places use. The way every meal is prepared here is with the absolute best in mind, and that I can appreciate immensely. I tried a few things here, from Antipasto (appetizer) to panini to dessert. The Mozzarella Caprese antipasto was a classic basic choice, with tomatoes, slices of mozzarella, fresh basil and olive oil. To add to the already great blend of flavors, there's balsamic glaze provided for you to pour. Potent taste, excellent quality. Some of the best flavor you'll get in each ingredient anywhere. On the exact flipside, the almond biscotti and cookies were surprisingly disappointing. They had no flavor and were lacking the almond extract taste I've come to love in pastries. Additionally, the lemon cake was decent, but not memorable. The jackpot in their food, however, is all in the panini. WOW. The Genovese panini is the definition of Italian flavor, with its thinly sliced chicken, zucchini, pesto, mozzarella, basil, and red peppers. Hands down the best panini I've ever had. Bread has alot to do with the makeup of a panini, and there's was a fantastic base to layer the ingredients on. Also worth mentioning is how high quality their olive oil is. It's added to the sandwich, upgrading the flavor even more. Come here for a great quiet and comforting dining experience with some of the best quality you'll find at any Italian restaurant. read more

I probably would have never hit Giuseppe's Cafe' if it weren't for the good recommendations of two of the most respected Yelpers I know, being Marc Aka Max H. and partner Dennis "Denny" M. What's better they not only recommended but also accompanied both me and my boyfriend for dinner, as I'm sure they not only wanted to see what kind of new boyfriend I've snagged out of the Gay Pool of Wilton Manors, but also knowing me to be the original unappeasable bitch when it comes to food, to keep an eye on me. Or, as one of them once so nicely put it: "You really shouldn't be left alone." LOL! So the four of us arrived at Giuseppe's Cafe' which from appearance appeared to be a café. Only a few tables, spotlessly clean, very simple but pleasing enough in décor, no professional waiters or servers and certainly no maître d. Basically, a simple "Mom & Pop" type of operation. Now without getting in to all kinds of food service variants such as cafeteria, brasserie, smorgasbord and the likes, I tend to classify food service operations as either being a café, which is the simplest, very abbreviated in menu and limited in culinary abilities. Then, there is the bistro type, just a little higher up on the culinary scale, but not to that of a restaurant which I consider to be the top. Now you may wonder why I'm babbling about all of this, but the reason is that I found the name, Giuseppe's Cafe', misleading but in the most wonderful and delightful of ways. It's an actual full-fledged culinary restaurant disguised in appearance as being a simple café. It in fact has culinary offerings of what I would expect only from a top of the line restaurant. Indeed, in culinary complexity, far above the foods of mere café. Then, best of all, real restaurant foods at reasonable near café prices. We ordered a good range of foods, an antipasto Italiano, a chicken piccata, shrimp scampi, a broccoli rabe and for me, I ordered their flounder piccata which I found amazing not only in flavor, taste and texture, but in the overall smoothness of its reduction. I could instantly tell this was the real thing with no corn starch or other amateur cook cheatings. The chicken piccata likewise was perfectly prepared. I could even see in it the evidence of deglazing in its preparation. The shrimp scampi again was another outstand dish you'd only expect to find in a top restaurant with skilled as well as traditionally educated chefs at work. On other good points that has led me to a Five Yelp Star conclusion are the Mom & Pop of the place couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Also good to know and also as a tip, they do not have a liquor license, but they not only encourage you to bring your own wine, they don't even charge a corking fee. When you think of that, it really is a nice way to go. In preparation for my meal, I had purchased an exquisite Chateauneuf du Pape at $50. I know if purchased in a restaurant wine would have easily cost between $120 to $150. So, right there is a big savings if you enjoy good wines at less than restaurant prices. read more

I have to admit that I was asked NOT to put a review on Yelp of Giuseppe's Cafe. Yes, really. And I was asked not to do this by the good friend who enthusiastically recommended it, and with whom we shared our first meal together, less than a month ago. Her rationale? "Let's not have Yelp discover it, it will get so crowded we will not be able to get a reservation when we want one." Well, while I understand that perspective, it goes against the spirit, the essence, the gestalt of what Yelp is about and of course, everything which makes Yelp the resource I and my fellow Yelpers turn to daily. So, here's the review I was asked not to post! Yes, Giuseppe's can be called "a hole in the wall", and yes, you can drive by its Federal Highway storefront in East Boca, a hundred feet south of Flanigans, and not realize what is there - the signage you'll see says "Cafe" - nor how incredibly good the food and service are. Unless, of course, you're savvy enough to check out Yelp, cause it has been listed here for awhile and gets consistently rave reviews. And why are those reviews so good? Because everything you'll eat here, from the soups to the antipasto to the appetizers to the entrees to the desserts are made by husband-wife team Chef Domenic and Victoria. They use organic produce when possible, and when Domenic goes to buy his fish (and everything else) if it doesn't look good to him he won't buy it. This restaurant is small. No, it's tiny. With about 7 tables it sits 14, and it's unpretentious. No fancy anything. Desserts and cookies, made by Victoria, are displayed when you first enter, with the assortment of gelato, made locally and, yes, they are delicious. We've had the chocolate mint gelato twice and I've never tasted anything as good. Victoria's Italian ricotta cheese cake will bring your tastebuds to a frenzy. The espresso and cappuccino are strong and very good. Oh, I didn't mention the food, right? Well I thought maybe your attention span would wane and you'd stop reading, but if you haven't, let me make this brief: it's INCREDIBLE! From the warm bread served when you sit without the need to ask, antipasto dishes are custom made with ingredients which will vary based on what the chef thinks is best, to any of the entrees, yes INCREDIBLE. Note, the menu is limited but your options are not. Are you a fish lover like we are? Call Chef Domenic two days prior to your anticipated dinner and request the fish you want. Scallops? Bronzino? Just ask for it and he will see if it's available and purchase. Want pork chops? Call in advance and pre-order it. The style of preparation, sauces, veggies, are actually decided when you're placing the order in the restaurant. We've special ordered scallops and Bronzino, and they were delicious. See picture of the whole Bronzino brought to the table by Domenic before he filleted it. He was so proud of his fish, as he is of every dish he prepares. Victoria and Domenic work tirelessly from the morning till closing at making every meal delicious and give each patron their personal attention. It's common for Domenic to come to your table to discuss how he recommends the fish be prepared (or the pork chops you've special ordered), and he returns to make sure you liked it and is sincere in asking. You can tell. Really. This man loves what he does. He is a Chef. Is this a Mom and Pop operation? Indeed. No one in the kitchen other than Domenic. And Victoria greets you as you enter, takes your order, brings the food, clears the table, and caters to your needs while you dine. Is it authentic Italian cuisine? Without question. By the way, it's BYOB without a corkage fee. And you MUST make a reservation. Weekends are exceedingly busy. Sunday's are a day for rest. Parking can be found in the private lot behind the restaurant. And if you wondered who Giuseppe is, well, it's their son. He does not work there, but mother and father are proud parents, just as they are proud owners and operators of their very special Cafe. So it makes sense they named it after him. And please, don't go there and complain that the seats are too hard or it wasn't fancy or the lighting is too bright. Hey folks, this is a little slice of Italian food heaven you'd find in a restaurant in Italy, plopped down on Federal Highway in East Boca, within a mile of a dozen other Italian restaurants. Ya want fancy? Valet parking? People watching? A hot bar to pick up a cosmetically altered man or woman? A happy hour? Loyalty club points? Full bar? Then go to one of those other places, enjoy yourself and leave that table open for me and my Yelp friends who will appreciate the genuine qualities to be found here. Awesome little mom and pop Italian cafe. They serve some authentic Italian dishes and have a little gelato station. I stopped here for lunch craving some gnocchi. I ordered online through Yelp but ended up eating there once I picked it up. The owners are a very sweet husband and wife. I spoke to them for a bit and found out we share the same favorite Italian soccer team A.C. Milan. So that warrants the 5 star review right away! The Gnocchi was delicious. They served a heaping plate of fresh, perfectly cooked gnocchi, in a homemade delicious sauce with fresh mozzarella. It reminded of my nonna's pasta. It was perfect! Normally the pasta is covered completely with a top layer of cheese so the presentation would be much nicer. But I had them put it into a plate from a to-go container so that was my fault. But the flavor was phenomenal! The Stracciatella gelato was also amazing. It was the perfect consistency. It was very creamy and had many delectable chunks of chocolate in it. So there are a ton of Italian restaurants everywhere you turn, right? How about one run by an authentic Italian? Now that's what I'm talking about. Initially skeptical about yet another Italian restaurant on my trip to Florida, the food changed my mind. Having a reservation and a member of my party having a chat with the chef in advance, we even had off-the-menu polenta prepared for us. The menu was a little limited otherwise. Substitutions and special requests can't be made otherwise. We started with our BYOB wines and had the mozzarella capresse shortly after. Fresh tomatoes and mozzarella with a nice balsamic extra virgin olive oil drizzled on top. The polenta came next and was prepared with artichokes, red peppers and tomatoes. I didn't realize it was an Italian dish but I was happy to be educated. My favorite part of the meal was the shrimp scampi with the added clams. I hate to review the excellence of this dish in comparison to other less than par dishes, but it paints the best picture. The sauce was light versus densely creamy. It had the perfect amount of seasoning and not doused in salt. The shrimp were large and they didn't skimp on the clams. Lastly, we had to try the homemade gelato. Our table ordered the dark chocolate, cookies and cream, stracciatella and tiramisu. Each member of my party had their own favorite. Personally, I loved the creaminess of the cookies and cream.
