Fried Calamari (Rhode Island)
Lauren N.

I'm Sicilian so i am pretty critical when it comes to italian food and sauce. It is a small restaurant, we were able to have a table set up outside for us. But mostly, its a grab and go to order slices and what not. Our waitress was kind and pretty quick but kept forgetting to bring what we asked. Their garlic knots were top notch ! you must get these soft, warm pillows. The calamari was standard, good portion size. I had a side salad which was standard as well. We ordered the Sicilian pizza which was a tad undercooked (the middle pieces weren't golden, they were a bit raw). And their sauce lacked flavor, unfortunately. I would recommend adding a little more spices to the recipe. It was also a bit on the acidic side. Their pasta dishes looked good!

Chicken Chicken Vodka Parm Sandwich

Casual Italian eatery and deli I heard about on social media. Friendly staff who appreciate your patronage and some Jersey boys music playing. Started with complementary bread which was delicious and steaming hot. The margherita pizza was flavorful and wasn't floppy at all. Then shared the chicken parm sandwich with vodka sauce. Very delicious and the chicken was quite tender. Many other dishes on the menu were appealing and some other sandwiches looked great that I'm sure I'll get for takeout one night.

This is a fantastic authentic NJ restaurant. Home made bread, the sauce the cheese, amazing. Great service, and get talking with the owner if you can. Really interesting guy- quite the background!

Fried Calamari. My family agrees that this is the best fried calamari in the area.

My family and I ate there on a Monday night and it was very quiet. Our server was super attentive, which I love! The food came out fresh and hot and flavorful! For my personal taste, the red sauce was a little too chunky and sweet, otherwise I would give it 5 stars. We will definitely be back.

Bean soup

A previous review mentioned the sauce being too sweet for her. My wife and I agree with that assessment. The meatballs are very good and the eggplant parm also very good. I got some bean soup to go that was pretty small. Taste was ok, I probably wouldn't order it again. The waitress was very nice. I really wanted to love this place but I might go back for something without the tomato sauce.

Michael Monaco, a noted chef relocated from New Jersey to Boca Raton where he recently opened Il Fiore. It is a deli, restaurant, and pizzeria. It has a small menu, starters; antipasti, salad, soup, & wings; hot & cold subs, pizzas, and chicken, seafood, and pasta entrees. Dinners come with house salad or soup and bread which they for got to give us. My wife's favorite is Chicken Parm and a side of pasta. I tried the Calamari & Shrimp Marinara over linguine. Both were very good.

If you're from North Jersey, Il Fiore will feel like home. Chef Michael Monaco brings serious Italian-American credentials (plus a few wiseguy stories) to Boca, turning out legit sandwiches on house-baked schiacciata--think WhatSub, but with Monaco's own Jersey edge. Don't miss the "Boca Bomb" (mortadella, prosciutto, soppressata, stracciatella, arugula, sun-dried tomato) and the creative, mortadella-heavy lineup (lunch only, until 5pm). At night, the menu shifts to Italian-American classics: fork-tender meatballs in fresh marinara, chicken francese with bold lemon-butter sauce, and handmade orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage (yes, it's fresh pasta). There's shrimp scampi, veal/chicken parm, and rotating specials like "Fettuccine Angelica." The pizza's there if you want it, but it's not the main attraction--stick with the sandwiches, pastas, and mains for the best experience. Seating is tight, so expect a wait at peak times. Monaco is working on renovations for more space. No marble columns here--just real-deal food and old-school Jersey hospitality. A little taste of Jersey, right in West Boca.

ok so first: Michael the owner what on OG from Jersey!! Such a gem if a human. just happen to find this spot while on biz travel to Boca. Meatball is really good. Sauce is perfect simple sauce blasting in flavor. They use real cold pressed olive oil from Italy. Now for what stole the show: The Sandwiches!!! THEY MAKE THE SESAME BREAD ON SITE!!!!! EPIC Cheese Steak (peppers beef molten cheese shrooms and peppers) and Italian Sub great cold cuts subtly spicy and terrific flavor. SOOOOO GOOD. Best hidden gem in Boca for a on the go Authentic italian eatery. Didn't have the pizza but looked like NYC slices. Dont lolligag or walk run to this place and grodge out!!

5/5 -- Worth Every Mile…read more Laspada's Original Hoagies is that spot for me. Whenever I head south, it's the very first place I stop--and when I'm driving home, it's the last place I hit before getting back on the road. I even have to bring home a full order for my family, three hours away. I literally drive three hours just to eat Laspada's. That's how good they are. It was one of my favorite places when I lived in South Florida, and after all these years, they're still making the best hoagies I've ever had. Fresh, flavorful, stacked, and totally unmatched. If you know, you know. And if you don't--go. You'll understand immediately.

Laspada had a lit up sign in the window saying they're "open." I seem to recall Next Door Boca giving them decent reviews. I am a native of Philly, hometown of the hoagie. I thought I'd give this place a try. I ran from my car through the rain and tugged on the door....locked. The door hours say open at 11! So much for the lit "open" sign. They have outdoor metal tables and chairs under an awning. I sat at an outdoor table for ten minutes. I looked through the storefront window at a couple employees prepping and I read the wall menu. A guy unlocked the place at 11. I let a young family and several other guys go ahead of me. Guy at the slicing wheel waited on me. I ordered a small Mama Lastrada turkey & salami on wheat. There's about a half dozen employees behind the counter dealing with the assembly line of customers and sandwiches. Guy at the slicing wheel tells me one of the other guys will work on my sandwich. Okay. However, I can't move down the line because there's customers still lined up ahead of me waiting for their food. Slicing wheel guy looks up at me a minute later and asks what he can get for me. I look back at him waiting for him to recognize me from a minute ago when he already had sliced my order. No recognition! I repeated my order to him. Now he remembers me! He again refers me to one of his junior sandwich prep guys. I overheard him telling a busy junior guy, "This is just a small Mama on wheat" or something like that. Still, I can't go down the line because there's guy ahead of me had placed an order for 3 sandwiches. I swear to you that the slicing wheel guy asks me for a THIRD time for my order! By this time, I felt like I was in a Monty Python sketch. I repeated my order. Again, he refers me to a third junior associate (Manny, Moe, and Jack)? Finally, a young associate asked me for toppings. I had noticed two lettuce bins. One bin looked fine. The other looked a little brown. I decided to skip the lettuce rather than ask him to pick from the left hand bin and embarrass them. I also saw a black speck in the onion bin. It probably was nothing but I decided to skip onions just to be safe. I chose tomatoes, Swiss cheese, pickles and sweet peppers. The debit card reader asks if I want to tip. I skipped that. Price was reasonable. Hoagie was okay. The roll was soggy. Philly hoagie shops pride themselves on their rolls. I understand this is Florida, not Philly. I can appreciate this place is popular and busy. However, being asked for my order 3 times by the same experienced worker there left me feeling less than special as a customer.

The standout was the pizza special with burrata (seriously, delicious). Everything we tried was excellent, and the quality easily justifies the hype. I get your rules, I respect your rules, but to charge me $6 for a side of mushrooms since you wouldn't put them on half, is outrageous. The prices initially caught my attention -- many of the sandwiches run around $20+ -- but the portions and quality start to make sense once you see what comes out of the kitchen. The owner, who hails from Brooklyn, noticed my order and told me I should try something different. He ended up making me an off-menu sandwich called the "Dapper Don." It starts with a toasted baguette brushed with garlic oil, then piled high with house-roasted beef, arugula, caramelized onions, crispy fried onions, herb aioli, and a generous amount of shaved Parmigiano. The flavors are big and well balanced -- peppery greens, rich aioli, sweet onions, and salty cheese tying everything together. The sandwich itself is massive. Easily large enough to split between two people. The shop is bright and modern and feels closer to an Italian paninoteca with Brooklyn-sized portions than a typical South Florida deli. One thing to note: this plaza has historically been a tough location for restaurants due to high rents. But if Generoso can build a loyal following around sandwiches like this, it definitely has a chance.

What Sub - Arthur Avenue on Focaccia

What Sub

FIVE STARS. GAS STATION? YES. GAS STATION? ALSO YES…read more Let's get something straight. Some of the best food on earth comes from places that look like you shouldn't trust them. Gas stations. Side streets. Tiny counters with three tables and a refrigerator humming in the corner. I saw WhatSub on Yelp and thought, "Alright. Let's see if the hype survives State Road 7." It didn't just survive. It flexed. I am fully on board with five-star gas station cuisine. In fact, I seek it out. And WhatSub doesn't just play the game -- it competes internationally. This place comes dangerously close to Sandwich Master in Turin, Italy. I'm not exaggerating. And it narrowly beats out Generoso's in Coral Springs, which is not an easy feat. The bread? Legit. The meats? Layered like someone actually respects the architecture of a sandwich. The balance? No soggy mess. No overkill. No amateur hour. And then the cannoli. Freshly piped. Not pre-filled. Not sitting there getting sad and humid. Fresh. Filled to order. Shell still crisp. Ricotta smooth and balanced -- not overly sweet, not grainy, not lazy. Best cannoli I've had in South Florida since Lorenzo's in North Miami Beach. That's not a casual comparison. That's a statement. Now let's talk atmosphere. It's technically in a gas station plaza -- and yet the owners and staff are actually speaking Italian behind the counter. Not performative. Not touristy. Just normal conversation like you accidentally stepped into a deli in Torino. It feels real. So real that I went back the next day. And then again. I am not joking. When I ask myself, "What was my favorite thing?" the answer is dangerous: Everything I ordered. Cold subs. Hot subs. Cannoli. Repeat. This is the kind of place you almost don't want to write about because once the word spreads, lines get longer and secrets disappear. But credit where credit is due. WhatSub is proof that greatness doesn't need chandeliers. Sometimes it just needs good bread, proper technique, and someone who actually cares.

Came here because I saw it was a new Italian sub shop near my area. Saw good reviews and wanted to…read moretry it myself. Behind the counter was a husband/wife duo who were the business owners (didn't get their names) who stated they were from Sicily. After much deliberation, I decided to order the Arthur Ave and the Milano. The Arthur Ave is a cold sandwich that had prosciutto, arugula, stracciatella, sun dried tomato. You have a choice of bread from white, wheat rolls, and focaccia. I was informed by the husband the focaccia is made fresh daily by his wife so of course I had to try that. The wife was nice enough to let me try a sample of the prosciutto and I have to say -- it was delicious, so getting it on a sandwich was going to be a no-brainer. The Milano was for my father. Watching them make the sandwich, they put two huge pieces of chicken cutlet, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and freshly sliced mozzarella. Again, I got the focaccia bread. Both sandwich's were drizzled on the top of the focaccia bread with fresh Italian olive oil which was just the cherry on top. I had told the owners it was my first time and we had a great conversation, that they were nice enough to give me and my parents 3 free mini cannolis -- which was completely unexpected and highly appreciated! As far as the food goes, I don't have enough adjectives in my vocabulary to describe how delicious this sandwich was. From the delicious meats, the fresh veggies, and my personal favorite part -- that focaccia bread. I would buy that alone. They had specials on their menu the day I went that was a not on their menu -- a meatball sub and arancini balls. Also, keep in mind, that this shop is inside the Mobil gas station on 441 and SW 18th. There is a sign on the outside of the gas station, but if you're driving by and unsure of the location, I can confirm it is inside the Mobil. Overall, a great experience; delicious food, great people behind the counter. Only caveat I would say is it is a little bit higher price for a sandwich, but with the current economy where a McDonalds burger is over 10 bucks, you truly get what you pay for and that is top quality, fresh and delicious food. Will definitely be coming back here in the future.

Dining is about more than just the food, and I was surprised that a place promoting its European roots didn't deliver the level of service and hospitality typically associated with that tradition. That said, the food was excellent and the pricing very fair. The hummus is nice and velvety, but the short ribs could've used more seasoning and was dry and hard around the edges. The chicken made a better pairing. Service was slow and lacking. We were seated quickly, but it took a while for a waiter to come. After being seated just past 7pm, our appetizer arrived 20+ minutes after ordering, and entrees didn't come until 8pm. Nearby empty tables went unwiped for most of our stay, and it was off-putting to watch staff only partially clean them while handling the tops of salt and pepper shakers with unclean hands. I was not surprised to see health violations listed here afterwards. The experience worsened with dessert. Our Basque cheesecake came with a thick layer of chocolate instead of the berry coulis listed on the menu. When I mentioned the discrepancy so he could inform future guests, the waiter repeatedly suggested I speak to the manager, despite me saying it wasn't necessary.
