Side streets. Tiny counters with three tables and a refrigerator humming in the corner. I saw WhatSub on Yelp and thought, "Alright. Let's see if the hype survives State Road 7." It didn't just survive. It flexed. I am fully on board with five-star gas station cuisine. In fact, I seek it out. And WhatSub doesn't just play the game -- it competes internationally. This place comes dangerously close to Sandwich Master in Turin, Italy. I'm not exaggerating. And it narrowly beats out Generoso's in Coral Springs, which is not an easy feat. The bread? Legit. The meats? Layered like someone actually respects the architecture of a sandwich. The balance? No soggy mess. No overkill. No amateur hour. And then the cannoli. Freshly piped. Not pre-filled. Not sitting there getting sad and humid. Fresh. Filled to order. Shell still crisp. Ricotta smooth and balanced -- not overly sweet, not grainy, not lazy. Best cannoli I've had in South Florida since Lorenzo's in North Miami Beach. That's not a casual comparison. That's a statement. Now let's talk atmosphere. It's technically in a gas station plaza -- and yet the owners and staff are actually speaking Italian behind the counter. Not performative. Not touristy. Just normal conversation like you accidentally stepped into a deli in Torino. It feels real. So real that I went back the next day. And then again. I am not joking. When I ask myself, "What was my favorite thing?" the answer is dangerous: Everything I ordered. Cold subs. Hot subs. Cannoli. Repeat. This is the kind of place you almost don't want to write about because once the word spreads, lines get longer and secrets disappear. But credit where credit is due. Came here because I saw it was a new Italian sub shop near my area. Saw good reviews and wanted to try it myself. Behind the counter was a husband/wife duo who were the business owners (didn't get their names) who stated they were from Sicily. After much deliberation, I decided to order the Arthur Ave and the Milano. The Arthur Ave is a cold sandwich that had prosciutto, arugula, stracciatella, sun dried tomato. You have a choice of bread from white, wheat rolls, and focaccia. I was informed by the husband the focaccia is made fresh daily by his wife so of course I had to try that. The wife was nice enough to let me try a sample of the prosciutto and I have to say -- it was delicious, so getting it on a sandwich was going to be a no-brainer. The Milano was for my father. Watching them make the sandwich, they put two huge pieces of chicken cutlet, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and freshly sliced mozzarella. Again, I got the focaccia bread. Both sandwich's were drizzled on the top of the focaccia bread with fresh Italian olive oil which was just the cherry on top. I had told the owners it was my first time and we had a great conversation, that they were nice enough to give me and my parents 3 free mini cannolis -- which was completely unexpected and highly appreciated! As far as the food goes, I don't have enough adjectives in my vocabulary to describe how delicious this sandwich was. From the delicious meats, the fresh veggies, and my personal favorite part -- that focaccia bread. I would buy that alone. They had specials on their menu the day I went that was a not on their menu -- a meatball sub and arancini balls. Also, keep in mind, that this shop is inside the Mobil gas station on 441 and SW 18th. There is a sign on the outside of the gas station, but if you're driving by and unsure of the location, I can confirm it is inside the Mobil. Overall, a great experience; delicious food, great people behind the counter. Only caveat I would say is it is a little bit higher price for a sandwich, but with the current economy where a McDonalds burger is over 10 bucks, you truly get what you pay for and that is top quality, fresh and delicious food. This is one of the easier 5 stars I've had an opinion about. Not a 4.9, or 4.3 or somewhere in the middle where i'd briefly consider a 4, it's a 5. 100% My only regret is that it took me a few seconds to come in because it's located at a gas station. Gas station food can slap or be cringe, but I'm super glad I went in, in fact that's probably the biggest highlight of the month for me if not year. I usually beat around the bush and talk about ambience, prices, cleanliness or customer service. Lets cut straight to the point. This is the best sub I've had in Florida. I've possibly had better in NJ, This isn't the cure to cancer. but it's the cure to shi* subs in florida. BEST sub in florida for sure. This is the best discovery I've found. The quality of the bread is next-level. I can't think of another sub shop who has anything close to this. Pictures never do bread justice but if you experience it you'll know what I mean. Not sure if I'm allowed to name other businesses here but Jersey M's and La Spad's are top in their game around here and this place is very easily way better than them. I mean not even a close competition. I think it's both the bread and the love that goes into it. Not many spots in FL have good bread nor add love. Somehow I went wanting a turkey sub, when I was there I wanted a turkey sub, but David who worked there who i suspect owns the place or manages it talked me into the best decision I've made this year. Which is the Arthur Ave with added chicken. Hats off to David, he clearly adds to the experience. He was funny, professional, dedicated to the business and really wanted the customer to have the best experience. If David himself reads this, please believe you definitely added to the experience, and thank you for the best sub I've had in a very long time. Prices aren't "cheap", but where is cheap these days? Dollar stores charge more than a dollar, Subway's $5 footlongs are $13. A 5 dollar bill is basically the new 1 dollar bill. Dont expect a $5 footlong, but expect the best sub your taste buds have seen in a long time. And upon further thought, Panera bread = $12+, Subway 12+, I'm not dissing them or their quality or value...But lets be honest..... THIS PLACE ROCKS in comparison for similar money. If you're reading this and considering it, Just do it. You wont regret it. I got a "Arthur Ave" and my roommate got the Meatball. This sub shop, tucked inside a gas station, is a hidden treasure that's fairly new to the Boca/Parkland area. We tried "The Fully Loaded," which is basically an Italian hoagie with a little extra love and care, and "The Arthur Ave," a prosciutto sandwich with arugula on homemade focaccia bread, topped with stracciatella cheese--a first for me. Being from Philadelphia, I usually prefer my sandwiches with a crusty exterior and a soft inside. Their homemade bread nails it--absolutely delicious. The owner, David, is super polite, helpful, and full of great recommendations. As a self-proclaimed sandwich snob, I have to say this place really hits the spot. My brother and I just visited What'Sub and had one of the best food experiences we've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the guys working there were incredibly friendly and welcoming--it genuinely felt like we were being taken care of by family. They took the time to chat with us and recommended a couple of sandwiches that ended up being out of this world--honestly some of the best subs I've ever had. Everything tasted super fresh, from the bread to the toppings, and you could really tell they care about what they're serving. As if that wasn't enough, they even threw in two free cannolis, which were absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet finish. This 5 star review is from our experience at the What Sub gas station location. PLEASE DO NOT be turned away by the fact that the Boca location is in a gas station! This is without a doubt the best Italian sandwich in South Florida, the Arthur Ave on focaccia was perfect! Fresh focaccia with imported Italian meats, mozzarella, and a touch of sweetness from the balsamic vinaigrette. Since it was our first time, Davide did not want us to miss out on any of the experience so he first allowed us to sample the prosciutto di Parma, which is part of the Arthur Ave sandwich, and threw in 2 cannolis, handmade in front of us, with our order because we simply could not leave without them. We also got the Buto, chicken cutlet with vodka and pesto. Both sandwiches were exceptional to go along with the excellent service and care from this crew. I visited the location on SR7 @ 18th in West Boca. First of all they are very very nice. I was a little "sus" as this is a kiosk within a Mobil station but the hero's were very good especially the bread. I admit that I'm not easy being from the NYC area but compared to a lot of hot hero's I've had around here in SE FLA, these were pretty good. The only other hero I've had in this league so far is Pizza Time on W Sample in Coral Springs. My advice, go heavier on the sauce & cheese, I personally prefer the shredded mozz melted to where it's lightly browned on top. read more

I've never had such good sandwiches as I've had here, I don't care who says what. I personally am a chef who takes pride in my Italian sandwiches with my own homemade bread and everything but when I tell you this sandwich blew my mind... there was nothing that compares. Everyone says, and I agree as well, the gas station scared me but when I met David and the crew as well as when my food met my mouth... I saw heaven. David and everyone personally tends to your service and food, making sure you're happy. If there's a problem, they'll fix it, if it's perfect, they still want to know what they can do better, and if it's okay, you're lying and your palette hasn't matured yet. It feels like a true hole in the wall that you recommend to everyone you know and it blows their expectations right out of the water too. The pride that is taken into making these sandwiches is unmatched and David is truly a dog that man is the best and made the food taste that much better with how he treated us. Went with my buddy who saw it online and I will say it was beyond what we expected from what we heard. I got the chicken parm on seeded bread with slopssssss of pesto and it was so good, my buddy got the Arthur Ave and both were insane. He will make you try it in front of him and I was worried at first but when I took that first bite I knew I was being taken care of like a baby in a rocker. I can't speak enough on the food and I definitely can't speak enough on the people who work there. Truly hard working amazing people who will do anything to make sure you're happy. First time visiter. Just had the hot buto sandwich and it was amazing. I'm usually picky about sandwich's like these but everything including the seeded bread hit right.
