Came here late night with a friend. Got two roast beef super subs. The kitchen made a mistake and made one of them a sandwich rather than a sub(the sandwich has significantly less meat than the sub) The kitchen took the meat out of the sandwich and put it in the sub. I went to the counter and asked if they can put the same amount of meat in my sub that they put in my friend's sub and they refused. I've attached a picture so you guys could judge for yourselves. While up from RI to help my daughter and in the area a friend and myself stopped to try a roast beef 3-way. When we walked in there was a couple of people in line in front of us. We placed our order and while waiting the place filled up with more people. Order was filled with in about 10 minutes and we where back on the road to RI. Came here 1am during our weekend trip to Encore(across the st). They open late/till 2am. Place was very old school with a nostalgic feel. Definitely past it's prime, a bit worn and smelled like a greasy oil fryer. Could benefit from a refresh or a deep clean. There was a bit of a line but moved quick. I was surprised how tasty the food was, roast beef sizes: regular, large, and super. I ordered the super but there wasn't anything super about it in terms of the size. Roast beef sandwich was on a fluffy soft and chewy onion roll. The texture complemented the roast beef nicely, wish it were a bit bigger though. Lobster roll was really fresh and stuffed with a generous amount of Lobstah meat. They were out of the chowder and chili which I'm assuming are a good sellers? This place is great! Always hot and fresh, cheap, delicious eats AND it's open late. Onion rings are my fave here. The meat in the steak and cheese is very tender and the sub rolls are always fresh. This caesar salad with chicken is small and sad. Not even a full chicken breast and NO parmesan cheese......really? Come on. I Wish I knew before we placed a large order with coworkers. I have no clue how much it is either, because they didn't give us a receipt, but I bet it was highway robbery. This is my first and last time ordering from here. Also, not the most pleasant experience when dealing with the people that work there. No offence, but that just doesnt make sense when you want repeat customers, which I will not be. I've been a customer for many years. I never go to a food establishment unless the food is very good and the service is excellent with fair prices. In this case the menu is great for lunch, quick dinner to go, and late night snack. Roast beef is always good ( 5 star roast beef sandwiches). Fries freshly cooked to order. Soda is cold. If you aren't in the mood for Roast beef sandwiches you can get a decent burger or hot dog. You can get better seafood but this is a roast beef sandwich joint. They used to have some of the best beef around at all hours of the night now in struggling to give this place a 3 stars it's actually more like 2.25! Heard people raving about this place and found myself driving by it and decided to swing in to try it for myself. Didn't know what to get, so decided on a large roast beef and some onion rings. Place was deserted and not super impressive to look at. Food came out quickly. Sandwich was pretty good, rings were bland. I didn't hate the meal, but it felt similar to me to what I could get at Arby's, but Arby's is cheaper. Seems like Mike's has appeal to folks because of the nostalgia more than the food. read more

As a SoCal native, I am used to a variety of restaurants being open until 2AM. However, whenever I visit my boyfriend in Malden, I remember that most stores close at around 9 or 10PM. Fortunately, Mike's Roast Beef is there to save the day with the perfect late night bite. I know their roast beef is great, but let me talk about the scallops and clams/clam strips seafood platter. As someone who doesn't regularly have access to fast food seafood, Mike's customizable seafood platter is a blessing. Though the seafood is not rich and life-changing as offered in high-end restaurants, compared to scallops in CA, the scallops are big and juicy (plus they don't have that rubbery, overcooked texture). Similarly, the clams/clam strips are big and nicely fried; again, this is compared to what we have in CA. Furthermore, the portion size for the platters is huge (and affordable!), with your pick(s) of choice, fries, and sides, so that it can satisfy anyone's late-night cravings and more! I would say that the cashier and kitchen staff are definitely friendly and efficient, and that's really all I can ask for from a fast food restaurant. I recommend anyone looking for a late night bite to come here, and I know I'll be dragging my boyfriend here for night runs whenever I'm in Massachusetts. read more

Stopped in tonight after a long day at work. Got a 4 way seafood platter and some chili. All of the seafood was fresh and not overcooked. Delicious, plump scallops, crispy and chewy clams and strips, solid calamari. Boat load of great french fries. Chili was alright: I spiced it up a bit at home. The blonde woman at the front was delightful. I'm a bartender/server and she's legitimately more friendly and efficient than a lot of my coworkers. Seafood is better & bigger than the other K word place close by... But why oh why Mikes do you still not take a card... I mean really, I know there is an ATM in the lobby but it charges me $3.00 to take out $$ and that bothers me... So bring cash... and if you go late night expect to be partially harrased by someone or have to listen to how everyones night went at the club... Junior beef sandwich is so fulfilling; do not let it's name fool you; my boyfriend got the Super Roast Beef... both sandwiches, regardless of size, were packed with roast beef. We requested to have the sauce on the side. We also ordered their clam chowder soup. It was perfect; it wasn't watery, it wasn't too clumpy, it was just right! Mike's Roast Beef is a hidden treasure. A sketchy-looking treasure that has a clientele of sullen truckers during the day and dudes from Charlestown that WILL beat the heck out of you at night, but a treasure nonetheless. And it's for one simple reason... Their roast beef is better than Kelly's. That's right, Kelly's. Mike's wins. No matter when you went - 11 a.m. on a Tuesday, 2 in the morning on a Saturday, whenever - you are going to get a consistently excellent roast beef sandwich. My weapon of choice was the Super Beef with extra cheese, onions and tartar sauce. And every element of it, from the warm onion roll to the beef itself to the zesty tartar, was amazing. That and a philly roll (an admittedly disgusting looking pureed steak and cheese stuffed into a fried roll) and I'm good for twelve hours. There are times when I get cravings for Mike's.
