Being new to Arkansas I have not found a favorite restaurant or even one that I would write a review on. My mother taught me that if you do not have something good to say do not say anything. I have a lot of empathy and grace for restaurant owners, operators and workers with having a great experience of success in all three categories. My wife and I stopped into Mikes last night at about 7pm on a Sunday night. My first expectation was that they would not be very busy and since they were closing at 8pm we would get a half heartedly experience on all levels. Nestled in the older part of downtown Conway gives Mike's a great character plus the interior decor is classic and has a New Orleans feel. We started with a Crab Cake appetizer which was awesome and full of lump crab which we both loved. I got a house salad with my meal that came ahead of time as we requested with our appetizer so we shared both. My wife ordered the Shrimp & Grits which was prefect for her taste and I had a NY Strip prepared perfectly. Our server was on point as I so wish I had remembered his name to give him a shout out. AMAZING food. If this place were in my hometown I'd be a shoo-in for a TLC show themed around morbid obesity. Everything was just delicious, and I can't wait to go back someday. The flow of the restaurant is strange, with the L-shape centered by the open kitchen. The back patio, where we ate, was nice, save a couple of flies, which can't really be controlled. I've eaten at this hometown favorite a few times and have never once been disappointed in the excellent service and tasty food! I wish there was one in California so I can eat there more often! Every time I come I look forward the most tender pork chops ever. The are huge thick cooked perfectly tender and moist which is not the case in most places!!! But Mikes has found perfection in cooking them! They have a honey soy glaze sauce which isnt really heavy like most glazes... their sauce is mouth watering favorable but not overbearing. I love their side dishes but my personal favorite is the sweet potato and green beans cooked with bacon! Always a guaranteed great dining experience. We visited Mike's Place again tonight after a few weeks, knowing we would get a quality meal with an attentive staff. We called about the need for a reservation and they took one over the phone but said we probably wouldn't need it. The restaurant was moderately busy and we were seated right away. They have a wide variety of foods on the menu, and everything was well prepared with more than adequate portions, and the prices make any meal a good value. They have the best scallops and best calamari of any place I've tried in Central Arkansas (calamari = best anywhere). The meal timing was perfect (we were just finishing up our appetizers when the main courses arrived) and our waitress was on the spot with everything we needed. Mike's Place costs a little extra but the value is perfect if you're looking for a great meal every time. They are our go-to restaurant when anyone asks for our favorite place in the area. I would recommend Mike's Place for an excellent meal, and recommend planning ahead (especially on weekends) with reservations because they're that good. read more

Perfectly cooked steak Great service. I will try to stop in anytime I am in town. $1.00 add on for blue cheese crumbles on salad with blue cheese dressing felt like a rip off. The food is generally good and the drink selection is as well. However, they constantly fail to take reservations correctly, particularly for large parties. On my way deep into Arkansas I ran across this jewel. The prime rid, medium rare. Potato. Salad. Bread. Oh, and ah jus. Simply delicious. I was so surprised that it was as good as it is. I have had great prime rib. This one was cut with your fork tender and juicy and tasty. Wow. The potato was ok. Maybe just a little over done and with liquid butter. Not my favorite but the steak made up the difference. Salad was ok. Lots of dressing and cheese, but the lettuce was just ok. I ate at the bar area, FCFS. Server was young bar tender. My mom, dog, and I were on a summer roadtrip and decided to stop somewhere for a nice meal after days of filling ourselves with fast food. We decided on Mike's Place solely based on proximity and availability of outdoor seating. The food and service turned out to be wonderful! Service was A+. When we arrived at the restaurant entrance, we saw no outdoor seating, so I went inside to talk to the host. They were extremely friendly and informed me that their outdoor seating was out back. We quickly walked through the restaurant to reach the outdoor area. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. A few of the servers stopped by to say hello to my dog and bring her water. Other than the weather (90+ degrees), it was perfect! Food was delicious! We ordered an Appetizer Sampler and Mike's Whitefish with a side of Fresh Steamed Veggies. The food came with a complimentary basket of bread rolls. - Appetizer Sampler: You get a choice of 2 different appetizers (there is a set that you can choose from), and we chose the Fried Calamari and Bam Bam Shrimp. The Fried Calamari was pretty standard - I have had better, but I have also had worse. It would have been better if it was a bit crispier and accompanied by a different sauce. On the other hand, Bam Bam Shrimp was delicious! I wouldn't hesitate to order it again! - Mike's Whitefish with Fresh Steamed Veggies: Amazing! You can order it pan seared, grilled, or fried - we chose grilled. The fish was soft and tender, and the sauce was creamy and flavorful. I highly recommend it to all fish-lovers! Overall, my mom, dog, and I had a great experience at Mike's Place thanks to the delicious food and the friendly servers! I have been here a few times and have always had a decent experience. I have only been to lunch and have only had their cheaper options, so I am not sure how amazing their steaks and fish are. Today my family and I went for lunch around noon. It was pretty crowded and it took a while to get our food, yet the wait was not unreasonable. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us a decent amount. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was good - neither outstanding nor horrible, yet then again it was just a grilled chicken sandwich. Thankfully it was not dry and the lettuce and tomato that came with it was fresh. The fries were good and not too soggy. They came with a side of maple syrup, perhaps? I usually prefer a cinnamon honey butter sauce with sweet potato fries yet this was good. My partner had the Canal Street Club which was quite large, and my daughter had the chicken and fries which she enjoyed. It was pretty standard lunch fair so I can't rate this experience much higher. It is not the type of lunch that I will crave and that will bring me back, so next time I need to up my finances and try something else that they specialize in. read more

We were not pleased with the quality or portion of the food. We, the wife and I, both ordered chicken, it was so tough I had to use a steak knife to cut and it was still very difficult to do so. Taste was not up to par, very bland. Not the quality of food you would expect from and establishment like Mikes Place. I know what prices have went up but why has the portion size went down as well. Do one or the other, not both. Young waitress did a good job but couldn't make this experience any better due to the quality of the dish she brought out. Went to a competitor the following evening and got better service at the bar, they were busy and that was the only seating. Food was much better and cheaper. I want to support my local businesses but don't know that I will go back to spend more more for less of a meal that is not as good as a chain restaurant. read more
