I visited here on a business trip based on mostly positive YELP reviews. I chose a seat at the bar, as I enjoy striking up a conversation when traveling or eating alone. I was greeted by a very pleasant and helpful Bartender (Nick?). He was very patient with me on all of my questions about their wine selection. He brought me samples to try and made me an excellent dirty vodka martini when I couldn't settle on a wine. Unfortunately the food just wasn't very good. I ordered a Ribeye, Shrimp Scampi and parmesan creamed spinach. The steak lacked any seasoning. I had to salt it. It was also very difficult to cut with a steak knife. The shrimp had a very fishy taste and were extremely overcooked. The spinach had a weird sour taste. I ate the shrimp because I was pretty hungry but left most the steak and all of the spinach. Given the amount of awards that hung proudly on their walls, I could've possibly come in on an off night. I would come back for the company and martinis but I'd likely skip the food. First impressions are pretty lasting. read more

From the atmosphere, to the food & drinks, and then to the great service, this is such a great spot. Visited this restaurant with my boyfriend for his birthday and fell in love with the place. They give you many options on the menu, a great display of alcoholic beverages, and amazing appetizers! The food was top tier and delicious. Went to eat with a couple of vegetarian friends, and was happy to find plenty of options for them. As a bam-bam shrimp enthusiast, that appetizer didn't quite pop as much as I had hoped so, but the friend zucchini fries were genius. Dare I say, better than french fries? Not any healthier, what with layers of parmesan cheese sprinkled over, but they were delicious. My prime rib was great, but I don't think I've ever had a bad prime rib (knock on wood). I've eaten here since they opened and can truthfully say it has gotten better over the years, unlike a lot of restaurants. Great service. Very small portion sizes. Neither my nor my husband's nor my brother in law's dishes were fully seasoned. We all had different dishes so I doubt it was a one off issue. My sister in law is tiny and took a picture of her husband's food, which was quite a bit smaller than her hand, to give an idea of the food portions. Service was excellent, food was bland. Being new to Arkansas I have not found a favorite restaurant or even one that I would write a review on. My mother taught me that if you do not have something good to say do not say anything. I have a lot of empathy and grace for restaurant owners, operators and workers with having a great experience of success in all three categories. My wife and I stopped into Mikes last night at about 7pm on a Sunday night. My first expectation was that they would not be very busy and since they were closing at 8pm we would get a half heartedly experience on all levels. Nestled in the older part of downtown Conway gives Mike's a great character plus the interior decor is classic and has a New Orleans feel. We started with a Crab Cake appetizer which was awesome and full of lump crab which we both loved. I got a house salad with my meal that came ahead of time as we requested with our appetizer so we shared both. My wife ordered the Shrimp & Grits which was prefect for her taste and I had a NY Strip prepared perfectly. Our server was on point as I so wish I had remembered his name to give him a shout out. My wife and I have enjoyed Mike's Place since we came to Conway in 2009. I always get a steak and my wife often gets some type of the seafood. We never leave disappointed. The bread is on point. AMAZING food. If this place were in my hometown I'd be a shoo-in for a TLC show themed around morbid obesity. Everything was just delicious, and I can't wait to go back someday. The flow of the restaurant is strange, with the L-shape centered by the open kitchen. The back patio, where we ate, was nice, save a couple of flies, which can't really be controlled. I've eaten at this hometown favorite a few times and have never once been disappointed in the excellent service and tasty food! I wish there was one in California so I can eat there more often! Every time I come I look forward the most tender pork chops ever. The are huge thick cooked perfectly tender and moist which is not the case in most places!!! But Mikes has found perfection in cooking them! They have a honey soy glaze sauce which isnt really heavy like most glazes... their sauce is mouth watering favorable but not overbearing. I love their side dishes but my personal favorite is the sweet potato and green beans cooked with bacon! Always a guaranteed great dining experience. We visited Mike's Place again tonight after a few weeks, knowing we would get a quality meal with an attentive staff. We called about the need for a reservation and they took one over the phone but said we probably wouldn't need it. The restaurant was moderately busy and we were seated right away. They have a wide variety of foods on the menu, and everything was well prepared with more than adequate portions, and the prices make any meal a good value. They have the best scallops and best calamari of any place I've tried in Central Arkansas (calamari = best anywhere). The meal timing was perfect (we were just finishing up our appetizers when the main courses arrived) and our waitress was on the spot with everything we needed. Mike's Place costs a little extra but the value is perfect if you're looking for a great meal every time. They are our go-to restaurant when anyone asks for our favorite place in the area. I would recommend Mike's Place for an excellent meal, and recommend planning ahead (especially on weekends) with reservations because they're that good. read more

Have a seat at a comfortable, well-stocked bar. When's the last time you had four-fingers of top-shelf scotch? That's how they pour at Mike's. Ready to eat? Not a bad table in the place. I have been here a few times and have always had a decent experience. I have only been to lunch and have only had their cheaper options, so I am not sure how amazing their steaks and fish are. Today my family and I went for lunch around noon. It was pretty crowded and it took a while to get our food, yet the wait was not unreasonable. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us a decent amount. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was good - neither outstanding nor horrible, yet then again it was just a grilled chicken sandwich. Thankfully it was not dry and the lettuce and tomato that came with it was fresh. The fries were good and not too soggy. They came with a side of maple syrup, perhaps? I usually prefer a cinnamon honey butter sauce with sweet potato fries yet this was good. My partner had the Canal Street Club which was quite large, and my daughter had the chicken and fries which she enjoyed. It was pretty standard lunch fair so I can't rate this experience much higher. It is not the type of lunch that I will crave and that will bring me back, so next time I need to up my finances and try something else that they specialize in. read more

Bland steaks, over cooked prime rib, green beans loaded with sugar from a can, and cold bread. BUT the shrimp and cheese appetizer was AMAZING.
