I was really surprised the day I went in the fish wasn't greasy this time. I think they might've taken the request to just hold back and drain the fish better. Don't drain it in a drainer where there's fish below dripping grease on top put something to catch the grease or get rid of it and serve the fish hot The day I went in I was so present I just wanna say great things about the food that day the service they're always good you know it's not excellent but they're good and I don't want to rate them any lower because I was really happy. We were in town for a baseball tournament and did the drive thru on a Friday night. We don't have many LJS's anymore in Houston, so was happy to see this one in our travels. I stopped in today and grabbed the $1.99 special of fish & fries. It was delicious and satisfying. The woman who took my order was nice. The only reason I get this place three stars is because of the atmosphere and what looks to be a building that needs to be renovated. Not dirty, just a poor exterior. Went in once during a 30-minute lunch break, ordered a fish, fries, and hush puppies combo meal. Waited about five minutes to have them hand me a tray with fish and fries, no hush puppies. I asked them, didn't this come with hush puppies, and they said they'd bring them to my table when they were done. I sat down a proceeded to eat my lunch. About 20 minutes later and no hush puppies ever arrived, I went to the counter to tell them and the woman looked back at an employee and told them to bring hush puppies. If you are looking for a place with a lot of atmosphere this isn't it. If you are looking for good food and a place where the kids won't embarrass you then this is the place. We hadn't been in in nearly three years due to the bad food but with the new owners, the food is amazing. The hushpuppies were better than my grandmothers and that is saying something. Their fish and chicken were cooked perfectly. The coleslaw is comparable to KFC's The fries are run of the mill but not overly greasy. They staff is friendly. Someone came in just before us and ordered 12 pieces of fish and we didn't have to wait on our order.
