First Street Café is a nice restaurant that is very reminiscent of a diner that I frequented with my Grandmother when I was a child. They weren't overly busy so I was seated and served right away. One thing that I really appreciated is that the food came out hot, not just warm enough to be passable. My server was very candid with me when I asked her about various menu items. She steered me away from a couple of things I was considering. They weren't bad food items, just not what I was looking for after explaining to her what I was wanting. I very much appreciated that level of honesty. The food was exactly what I'd expect from a café like this - average food but good food. I really enjoyed the breading on my chicken fried chicken; and, the mashed potatoes tasted like homemade. I'll definitely be back! read more

Food was not good. Got the catfish special. I understand not being near water the 3 shrimp that came with it were frozen from Walmart but the rubbery texture of the catfish when there are catfish farms in the state is unacceptable. The lady waiting on our party did a great job of taking care of us. Service was the only high light. read more

New to this area decided to try a local business. I always try to support local businesses as much as possible and give a honest review of service and food. Had to walk past 2 servers outside smoking to get to the front door. Once seated, one of those smoking servers came inside and brought us menus and silverware (which she touched with her bare hands) WITHOUT washing her hands. She reeked of cigarette smoke and it's disgusting that she didn't even wash her hands (which is required by the health department). The last time I was there, the server was fighting with a man(who was seated in our section) the whole time. We will not be returning to this white trash restaurant. read more

Excellent service and great diner style food. This was my first visit and was impressed. It is a pick your own seat style. The waitress came up quick and we had our food within 5 - 10 minutes of ordering. I got the Bubbas Big Breakfast that was only $7 and certainly was big. I was wanting some Italian food so I went to Roma's but it was closed on Mondays. So, since I was already there and hungry I decided to just try First Street Café. Glad I did, the jalapeño cheddar burger was great! The best burger I've had in a long time! The waffle fries were perfectly cooked and really good too. The only negative is that they serve Pepsi instead of Coca Cola, that alone is enough to keep me from returning to restaurants. However, the burger was really good and the sweet tea was actually pretty good. read more

This restaurant was one of our go to for girl time luncheons. The food has a comforting vibe to it and it tastes like grandma just cooked it straight from her kitchen. They offer specials on the menu board which was always exciting to see what they had to offer that day. The service is extremely friendly and the restaurant is clean. The hours are a bit weird so make sure they are open before you go. read more

So I've passed by First Street Cafe a few times and wondered about, so a girlfriend and I decided to grab lunch there this afternoon. Walking in it was not what I expected at all, From the outside it looks almost a little bit dinghy but inside its bright and the walls are covered with license plates and different memorabilia, very diner-centric. We were greeted warmly and immediately and asked to grab a seat, they were pretty busy and our server looked a little harried but she came over and took our drink order right away. The menu shows that they only serve lunch & breakfast and are open monday-saturday something like 6-2 (dont take this for fact its from memory but I do know they close @ 2) The menu includes a great selection of burgers, salads, and sandwiches with soups and special plate lunches as well. The breakfast menu included all your breakfast staples- pancakes, french toast, hash browns, bacon, eggs, etc and I imagine they carry specials during the breakfast hours as well. I chose to order the chicken tender plate which included hand cut chicken tenders, fresh homemade fries and a side salad. My girlfriend ordered the chicken sandwich which also came with your choice of side and she chose french fries. The fries were phenomenal! Some of the best french fries I've ever had, you could tell they were fresh and handcut and just had really good flavor. The salad was fresh and really good and the chicken tenders were also good. I wish there was a bit more seasoning on the chicken but they were good. Can't wait to go back and bring the hubby, the burgers looked delicious and hes a burger man! The prices are very reasonable and I'm happy to have another breakfast/lunch option besides chilis or fast food in jacksonville! The owner (or atleast I think he was?) was also there and he let us know they've only been open for 3 months so I think for a new business they're doing a great job! We came in when they first opened and ordered we were the only ones in the restaurant. 45 minutes later we decided we needed to leave our food had been ready to come out but the waitress decided carrying on a personal conversation with another customer who came in later was a better idea than serving us. I was here for breakfast and it was amazing! If you are in Jacksonville and craving some breakfast grub, this is the place! Breakfast food is my favorite type of food too, so I'm not saying this lightly! Plus their customer service is wonderful, our waitress was attentive and even got us to-go drinks. It's been a long time since I've had an over-easy egg cooked properly and they did it perfectly! Also, most of the time they don't give you enough toast to go with the eggs, but they sure did; I even had some left over. If you like bacon (who doesn't), then you are in luck! My plate came with a generous portion of huge slices cooked to perfection. The person I was with had ordered a meal that came with biscuits and gravy and you can tell that it's cooked from scratch. We were surprised that they served the gravy on the side, which in my book is a major plus! Everything was SO delicious and their portion size was awesome. Our server was not happy that we needed to look at the menu befor ordering. I've had breakfast and lunch and both are very satisfying and familiar. They have the biggest chicken tenders, meat loaf on Mondays, dumplings on Thursday and home made mac and cheese every Friday. If I could, I would rate this a 3.5. It's not quite a 4... but close. My good friend and I went here for breakfast this morning. The interior is super clean and cute. There were only about 5 other couples there, but it was a Monday morning, probably their slow time. There is a sign telling you to seat yourself. Before we could seat ourselves the server warmly greeted us and asked if we wanted a high chair for my friends baby! Good service! We sat and got our coffee (she even brewed decaf just for me!). The menu is small and contains the breakfast basics. Biscuits, eggs, pancakes, etc... I had a western omelet with 2 biscuits, and my friend had the 'country boy' breakfast. Her plate was filled with biscuits, bacon, and 2 eggs, all covered in gravy. Yum. Both of us enjoyed our food. It was nothing spectacular or out-of-this-world, but it was good and very affordable.
