I thought fish and chips with one side. I got fish with 1 side. I also got the medium, but it came with just 3 pieces of fish, average size. I could have clarified at the counter, but I didn't. We were driving through Payson, AZ and stopped by Mike's. The ambiance was beautiful inside and cozy, BUT don't let that trick you! We had ordered 4 different dishes. The fried fish and shrimp were really bland. I'm not being dramatic. We also got fish tacos and beef tacos. Likewise as another review had stated, the only flavor came from the "salsa". Except for us, there was no flavor present at all. No flavor or spice in the salsa and no seasoning in the meat. We all had to add a bunch of salt and pepper to our food. I used the sauce provided with the fried shrimp for my tacos. We literally seasoned our food ourselves... Portioning for the fish and chips & shrimp and chips were small for being pricey. PLUS we had to pay a 3% fee for utilizing card as a payment method. We're glad we got to try it. Now we know to not return the next time we're up in Payson. read more

We stopped around 5:00 PM on a Friday night. My husband and I split a 4 piece fish and chip meal and an order of cannolis for a little under $30. We got our food fresh and very fast! The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. Though the food was delicious, my husband and I agreed that it wasn't very much food for the price we paid. We ended up getting about 6 fish pieces and a handful of fries, and I was tempted to order more food after we had finished eating. We stopped in early for lunch, it was maybe just 11am. Not busy yet, so we were able to order at the counter quickly and grab a table. The place definitely seems like a local favorite, as the next two customers who came in the staff knew their usual orders. This is a quaint location that is bigger inside than it appears to be on the outside. The food is tasty. The service is friendly no frills here but you get what you order. We were surprised the crabcakes were pretty good. They're very firm and circular. But they taste very good. I wish they had tartar sauce that came with these. I've had the shrimp tacos, both fried and grilled and they are tasty. The coleslaw is pretty good, but you get a very small portion. The french fries are tasty. My teenage son certainly likes them. Very over priced fish. When they say fish nuggets they mean it! I was told that they weigh each nugget which 1 piece is 4 ounces and not an ounce more. I remember the days in the Marine Corps when they weighed all meat and only gave you that portion. Mikes should learn how fish and chips are made in Ireland. We have been trying to eat at this local restaurant for a while now and we finally made it. Hubs & I shared this combo. It was just enough for the 2 of us. Nice big chunks of white fish, crispy fries and nice shrimp. The spicy cocktail sauce could use a little more "bite" for my taste. I didn't necessarily like the little containers of malt vinegar. On a road trip up north it was lunch time and we had a hankering for fish. I Yelped fish places on Payson and stumbled across Mike's Fish & Chips. It was hard to review the menu online, it did take some searching, but eventually found it. We were going to call ahead and take it with us, but, ultimately decided to eat there. Mike's is right off the highway. You order at the counter, get a number and when your food is ready, you go up and pick it up. Upon reviewing the menu, I decided on the 7 piece shrimp and chips. The shrimps are large and fried golden brown and crispy. The fries were golden, crispy and not greasy! They offer spicy cocktail sauce. It was a great lunch to fill our bellies for the rest of our drive. The nautical decor compliments the restaraunt nicely and I loved the fish tank in the corner with colorful fish! Also it was kinda weird you don't get big pieces of fish you get more like fish nuggets. The fries were really good. I had the shrimp which I thought was great and I liked that the tail was off of them. The coleslaw was pretty good. I'm from GA so I make some pretty good coleslaw and theirs was really good. Was much better a few years ago. sorry to say it has hit a landslide and down the hill it has went. We were super disappointed we ordered 4 pieces of fish and they do it by weight one piece the only big piece wasn't bad but all the all pieces were super over cooked and dry. We also got 4 pieces of shrimp not fresh and again over cooked. Then the deep fried mushrooms I was excited about, well have to be the worst I have ever had. Everything was a let down...
