What a great find this place was! Usually when we visit Payson we eat at either Mackey's or Fargo's but I had to stop at the Tesla charger and this place is located in the same plaza so we stopped in for a bite to eat while the car was charging. I ordered the Backwoods burger and subbed a black bean patty and I opted for steak fries. The burger was definitely top 5 burgers I have ever eaten. The black bean patty was something special whatever sauce is on this thing really brought out all of the flavors. The addition of the sautéed jalapeños really set this burger off as they had an amazing flavor profile. I'm serious when I say that I would make the 85 mile trek from Gilbert to Payson just so I can have this burger. We finished up our lunch/dinner with the Mogollon Monster dessert, which is an M&M skillet cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle. Of course that was really good too, how can you go wrong with a skillet cookie?! If I may make a slight suggestion, instead of topping the cookie with vanilla ice cream, how about blue cookies & cream "Cookie Monster" ice cream given the name of the dessert? The only criticism I have of this place is that the service was a bit slow. After we finished the dessert we sat at the table for about 15 min. before I finally got up and told our server we were ready to go. But, the burger was THAT good to where I have to give this place 5 stars. read more

Took my friend to her birthday dinner tonight. She had the turkey melt which was generously filled with meat and perfectly grilled. I had a the delicious Zona salad with the protein choice of pulled pork. The zesty ranch on the side was so good that I asked for another. Ricky, our server was very friendly and attentive. He served a yummy fresh baked cookie topped with ice cream and whipped cream complimentary for dessert. This is a sports bar and restaurant with many TVs. We like coming here for drinks and their chicken wings. There are different flavors and the ones we have tried do not disappoint. There are lots of televisions in the bar area. The name is perfect and this place is pretty cool. The menu is bar and grill food to a tee. Were were impressed they had cauliflower crust pizza. It's pretty good too. My wife loved the naked wings and they were presented beautifully. The server was attentive and had a good sense of humor. We felt welcome even though we probably didn't look like locals. While glamping up in Payson, we came into town for my birthday meal. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was awesome! My boyfriend got the fish n chips and also really enjoyed it. Servers were friendly and they allow dogs on the patio which was perfect for our pup! They have a bar inside, indoor seating, and a large outdoor patio. Man this Dirty Verde is one of the top 5 burgers for me. The flavor was unbelievable. I have never tasted anything like it. The peppers on it make it taste like there is actually chili on your burger. We split it but it was soooooo good. The BBQ sauce (I'm not a BBQ gal) was delicious I was worried with the low reviews but we travel and eat a lot and it was good. I'll go back for sure. My only regret was that I didn't slice it in half before eating to make it easier to handle. Steak fries were good. I sat out on the patio which was comfortable in the evening but is on the south side of the building so it'll get some sun. It does have both covered and uncovered tables. All of their TVs are glitchy. Literally herky jerky images, like skipping frames or something. Terrible. Unwatchable. It's been like this for a long time. Need to get it fixed. Tots are good. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because the employees keep the temperature down very low and the central fan system on very high, with frigid air blowing relentlessly on you. So wear a parka in there, and not just in the winter months. We had to get our food to go last time because we were so miserable. Burger buns were very stale, burgers were hockey pucks, lettuce was soaked in grease. Fries were soggy and cold. Wings were rubbery and undercooked. Even the Dr Pepper tasted nasty, like dirt. My boyfriend and I were driving back from Flagstaff, staying in Pine, and we were craving pizza. We wouldn't make it back in time for anything to still be open in Pine, so we drove to Payson and ordered a pizza to-go. Mind you, we had a 20 min drive back to our house in Pine, and the pizza was STILL amazing after that. We were starving so we didn't even heat it up. We got the jalapeño ranch on the side and I thought it was such a great addition to the pizza. It was close to their closing time, so the restaurant was empty but everything was very clean, the restrooms were spotless.
