Wow, this was a fantastic family diner! This is one of those true country diners and you can feel it through the faith-based decorations, wood interior, and staff. The staff wasn't as upbeat as I would have liked, but the food made up for it. I ordered the Elvis French toast which was peanut butter, chocolate, and banana. 10/10. We also got the Pinon burrito and that was good. It was cool to see all of their Sasquatch merch. We came in without a reservation on a Sunday morning and got seated in about 10 minutes. Stopped by on a long bike ride up from Phoenix, through Young, AZ and into Payson. Zero research or reviews but I sure was pleasantly suprised by the sweet people working here, their warmth and genuine smiles, and amazing service. Hands down the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had and it isn't even close. If you are a fan, make the drive and enjoy. Their Denver omelet was also wonderful and they had solid coffee. We stopped in for a combination of breakfast and lunch. We got there about 11 and it was fairly busy, but there were tables available. The service was efficient and very pleasant. After looking at the menu, we ordered the 2 x 2 x 2 with scrambled eggs, link sausage and half a biscuit and gravy as well as their BLT salad. We got our food within 10 minutes. As you can see by the accompanying pictures, the salad was huge. As well as being large, it was also very very good. Different lettuce varieties and a good amount of bacon and chicken. The breakfast item was also very good. We recommend this place and will stop by again whenever we're in Payson. read more

This was such a cute little mom-and-pop restaurant tucked away in a small Arizona town on our way back to Colorado. It had that cozy, small-town charm that makes you feel right at home the second you walk in. I ordered the chili and cornbread to start -- the chili was phenomenal! It had just the right amount of spice to give it a kick without being too much. And the cornbread... oh my goodness, mouth-watering doesn't even begin to describe it. For my meal, I had eggs, toast, and sausage -- everything tasted homemade, like something your mom would whip up in her kitchen on a Sunday morning. Truly comfort food at its best. The service was great -- friendly and welcoming -- and the inside was exactly what you'd expect from a small-town café: super cute, quaint, and full of charm. This place has a real mom-and-pop café feel. The food is delicious, and the cinnamon roll is absolutely ginormous. Usually when cinnamon rolls are that big, the edges are dry and you only want the center -- but that wasn't the case here. The whole thing was soft, fresh, and delicious from edge to center. They're also very accommodating. If you want a half order, we absolutely loved that this way we could try a couple things each something sweet, something savory., they're more than happy to work with you. Has a great time after some snurr boarding (snow boarding) a friend in town recommended this cafe and we loved it! The burgers are really good and the fries are crunchy and taste like everything else they throw in the fryer (which I like) I do have regrets not getting the pancakes like my fellow yelp elite Jon but the biscuits and gravy were ok. (I would not get them again) Oooo also side note sometimes they use canned items so if you're not sure if you want to order something they can get you a sample. I wanted a soup but was a little cautious and got a sample thank goodness I did because I think it was Campbells a little dressed up lol Regardless the food is good the staff is welcoming and happy. The Piñon Cafe goes on my "top breakfast dives" list! Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food. We had the corn beef hash which includes a couple of eggs made to order, choice of potatos and toast and the full order of biscuits and gravy. At the end we had a blueberry muffin. All were very good. Booth, bar or table seating, but no outside sitting. Convenient location in the heart of Payson where families, couples or single diners can all enjoy the setting. The restaurant is clean, the service was friendly and fast, and the breakfast food was excellent. (wasn't there for lunch) The hash browns alone are worth the trip to this place. I've been to this cafe back in 2007 and it was OK, but now it's so much better. I'm sure the rustic decor appeals too, but to me the food and service are what counts. We basically made the trip to Payson solely because I saw someone on instagram post about the amazing cinnamon roll. And I'm sure glad we did wow that was delicious! There was a hit of a wait on a Saturday morning but it wasn't too bad, like 15 minutes. Service was great even though they were pretty busy. Everyone was very nice to our almost 16 month old! Cute and very small town ish in here. In an old building but very well kept. We ordered the cinnamon roll, I got the yogurt bowl with a side of potatoes to share with my son, and my husband got the eggs with toast, hash browns, and bacon. My was impressed with the amount of bacon they served him and how crispy it was. My yogurt bowl had yummy fresh fruit on it and the country potatoes were perfectly seasoned. The cinnamon roll was the star of the show, massive with a delicious cinnamon gooey center. They also serve locally roasted coffee and my husband enjoyed a couple cups! Visited Friday morning and we were seated right away! Friendly staff and our drink were brought out super quick. I got their Denver omelette and my husband got the meat omelette. On the side we got the gravy and biscuits. VERY cheesy omelettes, I will say I did like my husband's food a lot more than mine. The slices of the bell pepper were pretty big. The coffee and orange juice are okay. We spent about $40 for the both of us, not including tip. The pinion cafe is decorated vibrantly with lots to gaze at and read, lots of fun signage. Driving through Payson to do a little 4-wheeling in the Jeep & fishing....had to stop at Piñon Cafe! One of my favorite breakfast places in AZ. The inside of the cafe feels like a cabin and they always treat you super nice and friendly. I went with the 2-2-2 - 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and 2 pancakes with a side of hash browns (and as you can see in the pic, extra butter for the pancakes). Absolutely loved it! And you can't come here and not get one of their gigantic cinnamon rolls....as in if you don't get one, there should be a penalty or points taken away from you, or your taste buds are put on mute for a few days as punishment. Love this place. The waitstaff are all super nice. It's got a mom and pop vibe to it and it's very cozy. We go for breakfast every time we're in town to visit friends. You could barely hear the young boy speak and when he asked what he wanted to drink, we said two waters. He came back two minutes later saying, "what did you guys want to drink again?" Which made sense because he didn't seem like he was listening when he asked us the first time. Our waitress was also unfriendly, making no eye contact when speaking to us. It was almost as though none of the workers wanted to be there. They didn't seem mad or annoyed, they just seemed like whatever kind of attitude. Not sure if this is good news or bad news but I was paying attention all around and they were treating everyone like this so it wasn't just us, which made me feel a little better about it. read more

We placed our name at the register, was told it would be a 30 minute wait. We were willing to do that, so we stepped outside. Only for the waitress with the terrible eye line to come out 20 minutes later & tell everyone they were closing the kitchen bec the staff were overwhelmed. & that we couldn't even sit inside bec "it's better for us if you wait outside".... My husband and I decided to take a day trip to Winslow. Along the way is Payson, and since it was breakfast time, we decided to stop in to eat. This is a cute place that was busy, but we were seated immediately, and our server was by right away. I ordered on and water, and upon reviewing the menu, I decided on the gluten-free French toast, sausage links, and 2 eggs. Not long after ordering out, food came, and everything looked delicious. My French toast was so good, and the huge sausage links complimented it well. Our server cane to check on us frequently, and overall, the service and food were great. A very pleasant experience in an old fashioned cafe. We did not experience any of the issues in the negative reviews. We were seated promptly, our order was taken within a few minutes of arrival and the food was brought out quickly. My wife ordered the Huevos Benedictos. It tasted good. She particularly liked the verde sauce. I had a cheeseburger. It was cooked as ordered. I had hash browns in place of french fries. The hash browns were not mush. In short, an excellent meal. The waitress came around numerous times to refill coffee. Good Service! Good Food! Be forewarned, there is an upcharge if you pay with a credit card (posted on the cash register as you walk in). It's a typical local diner showing a bit of wear and tear on the booth fabric. The tables were clean and the other customers seemed to be enjoying their meals. We were seated, then waited almost 5 minutes before they brought water to our table. The table next to us was seated after us yet our waiter waited on them and ignored us until we brought the matter to his attention. The bacon, avocado burger was unimpressive. No seasoning on the meat and the bun was something I could get at the grocery store. I expected much better based on the reviews. Perhaps breakfast is better. read more

We were starting to get hungry on our road trip so when we were at the gas station (across the street), I looked this up on Yelp and I was happily surprised to find that it had pretty good ratings. It's a solid diner with the breakfast and sandwich options you would expect. As a bonus, I thought we were given a bit more choice than I would have expected, too. For instance, I was asked what type of cheese I wanted on my burger and there were a decent amount of options when I was just expecting American cheese to be the only option.
