Located inside the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino in Payson, this restaurant is a diner's gem. They have a wide variety of entrees & meals on their menu. There were four of us having lunch together & three of us had the soup & salad bar while the fourth had a patty melt sandwich & cole slaw. We've stayed at Mazatzal hotel and casino a few times so we decided to check this place out for my birthday dinner. The buffet was closed by the time we went so we just chose from their dinner menus. I went with the shrimp scampi pasta. I wasn't disappointed. For $2 more you can add the unlimited soup/salad bar. The salad bar was great and had plenty of options along with pasta salad. The soup today was cream of chicken and turkey noodle. There are three options for dessert: chocolate cake, carrot cake, and strawberry shortcake. Stopped by this casino on our way back to Mesa. Friends of ours had been here previously for the breakfast buffet, and it was very good she stated. We had the Friday buffet - fish. The salad bar was very good. The Mac and cheese was yummy. The white fish was ok, first three or four bites. After that was rubbery and bland. Service was good. He was very attentive. Went for my friends birthday celebration dinner. Had a great server who was very attentive to our table. I ordered the prime rib petite cut medium well with a baked potato. The most of dinner entrees come with the salad and soup bar. The pasta entrees do not but you can add it for a couple dollars more. My meal was so delicious and perfectly cooked. Restaurant is located inside the casino. We just wanted soup and salad and this place advertised what we wanted. When we got there it took some time to get someone to set us. No one at cash register. This person acted like we were interrupting something. The person that seated us did so in a hurry. No pleasantries, just here is the menu and away she went. Then our waitress came. Wow what a difference. She was very nice, cheerful and helpful. The place could use a face lift. Not really dirty in any way just worn. This place does get a lot of traffic being at the casino. We had a choice of two soups and both were excellent. The salad was make your own and there was plenty of ingredients to make what you want. This place is definitely a place I will return to for more soup and looking at the menu the food looks to be fairly priced. May have to try their prime or a nice steak. I have ate here several times. The food is always good. Service, is hit or miss. They have a wonderful salad bar. We started w/that. Also shared the coconut shrimp. The shrimp come w/a orange marmalade kind of dipping sauce. Very tasty. The dipping sauce was sticky and all over the place, I asked the server for more napkins, and she brings four paper towels, that she got from the kitchen. They use cloth napkins here, are they numbered? Do they have a strict one napkin per person policy? Give me a break!! I decided to do a review of the casino, as I am a local who visits the casino restaurant often - and feel that some of the reviews here are uncalled for. One reviewer said the calamari was just OK. Hmmm, it seems strange to me that this person had calamari, as I WOULD ORDER it if it was ever offered. Seems this was a fake review for sure. We frequent this restaurant for lunches or dinners, and at various times in the day. When the restaurant is very busy, we might wait for our food order perhaps 15 minutes, but rarely - not a half hour! Soup and salad bar is fresh, filling and a good value received. Dinner items and special salads are large and fully satisfy one's hunger. You won't be disappointed. Also, both the casino and the restaurant were remodeled in early 2019. read more

Very disappointed in our experience at Cedar Ridge. First, we waited about 10-15 minutes just to be acknowledged then seated during a non busy time of day. We were able to put in our drink order (nothing fancy, just sodas) and waited for another 10 mins. After ordering, we helped ourselves to the salad bar and snacked on crackers while waiting on our combo appetizer... a platter of fried foods that shouldn't take long to get out, took another half hour. By the time our entrees arrived, we were already agitated and perhaps our server could tell, as he seemed to avoid us altogether. They call this fine dining. The waiter took 5 minutes to get to us after being seated. The place was pretty empty. I ordered the prime rib, the specialty here, before knowing the truth. While ordering I asked if the broccoli was fresh. The waiter said no. So I ordered a baked potato instead. Then I was told I could go get my salad from the salad bar. A buffet is NOT fine dining. The cauliflower was turning black. The prime rib came out and looked disgusting. It tasted gross too. I voiced my concerns to the Manager, who in turn said "We don't do fine dining" looking annoyed at me. She did take it off the bill, that's the only thing they did right here. I was going to give this buffet only 4 stars because i thought the dessert selection was a little weak, but decided the food was all 5 star,and they deserve a 5 star rating (put my sweet tooth aside). Well Rand H. and myself took a morning drive up there and it is a very scenic drive taking about a hour and a half from south mountain area. The restaurant is very comfortable and well decorated.Well i started with chili mac soup and it was probably the best soup i have ever had it was great. After that i had to try the other soup (southwestern beef) and it was real good to.they also had a wide array of salad items including cold cuts,potato salad,chopped egg ,pickled beets to name just a few. The main entrees included roast turkey ,stuffing, roast chicken,Italian sausage,mashed potatoes and gravy,sweet potatoes,green beans and a vegetable medley . All were very good. Came at 2:50 buffet offered till 3pm but took 10 min to seat. Then told us we where to late

I went with the idea of having a nice fish dinner for fish fry Friday. The evening started with a hostess walking up to the counter looking at there phone then walking away, not even acknowledging myself or my brother. Then a couple minutes later after she stopped talking with a colleague she returned grabbing 2 menus and walking away asking if we wanted a table or booth. After seating us at a table, she set the menus down and walked away as fast as she could. As for the food, The baked fish was quite good and the mashed potatoes and gravy were good too. The fried fish was not bad but could have been better. The fried popcorn shrimp looked a bit over cooked but I chanced it anyway. I was unable to eat a single shrimp. They were so hard I could not crack them open with my teeth. When dropped it hit my plate and I thought it had chipped my plate. The veggies were cooked well and had good flavor as well. But the real bummer for the evening was my server. He rarely came to my table for a refill and when he finally returned (remember it was not a busy time at all and there were several servers going back and forth) he got me a refill of Arnold palmer ( its half tea and half lemonade) I got a glass of lemonade with a shot of tea in it and 3/4 of my glass was filled with ice. I took 2-3 drinks and my glass was empty again (aside from the full glass of ice). I have eaten here time and time again hoping for better quality of food and service, but I am constantly given higher food cost, lower quality of food and staff who don't care about the costumer. And even when I receive such horrible service I am expected not only to pay my bill but also give 20% of my tickets Total order to this bad server as a reward? I don't mind tipping if the food is good, and the service is acceptable, but I hate it when I am required to tip a who is either bad at there job or just doesn't care about the people he is waiting on. Needless to say I wish I would have just got some foot food to take home would have tested better and gotten far superior service. If your looking.
