Breakfast burritos folded, tight and perfect. Nice tortilla, while shy on the bacon it was very good. Chorizo burrito was great, not greasy at all. One of the better ones we've had in a long time. Burritos were about $7.50, great price.

Going through Payson and had a bean and cheese burrito craving....it wouldn't go away....I needed a fix. I'd liken Alfonso's to Los Favritos, but a tad bit better. Is it the best out there? Not at all...but it solves problems. The burrito was big, tasted good and satisfied my craving. The chicken taco was a toss in...it was ok. Both lived up to the expectations I had and I walked away full and happy. Plenty of seating outside...as you can see in the pics, it's a small place but enough seating for passers by. The staff were friendly and the store was clean. In a scale of 1 - 10, I'd come back for another.

This weekend was my second time trying Alfonso's. I had the California burrito both times. It was very flavorful and the carne asada was extremely tender. This time I added 2 cheese enchiladas as well. Another great item. I will definitely eat here again when in the Payson area.

So if you look at all my reviews you'll see that it's rare for me to find a dive-y Mexican food restaurant I don't like. Normally all my reviews are 5 stars even though the restaurants are a little grimy. However I did not like this restaurant! The reason is that the food just didn't taste good to me. The carnitas was yummy but was like 50% inedible fat in my tacos. No bueno! Also, I pretty much never meet a bean and cheese burrito that I don't devour - but here I left mine half uneaten which NEVER happens (and I live in Southern California where we have tons of Mexican food restaurants so I know what good beans taste like!). The flavor was just weird and there was also barely any cheese in my burrito. Instead of being called a bean & cheese burrito it should have been called a 'murky tasting beans only burrito'. Also it was DRIPPING in grease - I know these can be greasy but this one was swimming with grease so much I had to get extra napkins and get another plastic bag to contain all the grease. We also got a bacon, egg, potato breakfast burrito but it was really bland - even with the salsa. Overall, I was super disappointed with this restaurant despite all the good reviews. The only things that were good were the service and the fountain drinks.

For one of our last meals in Arizona, we had to get Mexican food. So after hiking around the Tonto National Forest, we drove through Payson and found Alfonso's Mexican Food, which satisfied our craving. Located along a major road, Alfonso's Mexican Food was easy to find as it's located in a small business strip with plenty of parking. There were a few tables outside, and the dining space inside is on the smaller side. However, we visited on a weekday in the late afternoon and the place wasn't busy. You order and pay at the counter and they will deliver your food to you at your table. It's a casual spot. There was a lot to choose from at Alfonso's Mexican Food, and it helped there were photos of the items posted on the wall. My partner and I shared the carnitas plate, the machaca plate, beef nachos and a side of green chile. Yes, we had hella leftovers! The food was delicious. Everything we ordered was definitely satisfying and filling, and I liked that there was a salsa bar here that we could help ourselves to. All of the meat was tender, the toppings were loaded and the tortillas were warm and fresh. It also made for yummy leftovers! If you're in Payson and have a desire for some classic Mexican dishes in a casual setting then Alfonso's Mexican Food has your back. It made for a tasty meal that ended up filling us up for days after. Noms!

My husband got the Birria tacos and consume. I had those last time he had them this time they are amazing super flavorful. I switched it up this time and got the enchilada trio. When they walked up with the plate I was in shock the plate was three times the size of my head. Those may have been the best enchiladas I've ever had. I'm very picky with my sauces. Trying enchiladas are always a staple for me that determines a restaurant for me. I usually like a darker red sauce. It was a little orange and surprisingly very pleasant very flavorful first time I've ever liked an orange sauce. The creamy white sauce was so flavorful and might've been my favorite enchilada. I've never been a green sauce girly but there's is absolutely delicious. The rice was a little bland for me but the beans were delicious. Our service was very attentive and food came out quick. I love the ambience there. Everything is wood lots of things to look at very laid-back and very welcominga bit western too . I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in town at Payson!

My wife had the enchilada special, but really nothing special, you can easily get meals like this or better at "order at the counter" style Mexican restaurants. Not crowded at all at prime lunchtime hour which should have told us something.

Turns out, this is the same chain that got its start in my California hometown! I grew up with Alibertos! Totally makes sense why I choose this place above all others in town. Tastes just like home. If you're from SoCal and need your street taco fix, Alibertos has your back. 10/10 no notes, I LOVE this place. Authentic thick and flavorful salsas, perfectly cooked carnitas, proper corn tortillas doubled up to support the toppings Just the best. This isn't your typical Sonoran desert or Tex-Mex Mexican food. This is definitely a taste of that Baja-style Mexican food found close to the TJ border - this chain literally got its start in San Diego California - and I'm not surprised they're still my favorite all these years and miles later. My Arizona burrito? Not as great as I wanted it to be. It's my own fault I suppose - the meat to filler ratio wasn't fantastic, but my biggest gripe was the very fatty meat - almost gristle in places. I was disappointed. Friendly service. Located in the parking lot of an antiques store with bathrooms inside, "Western Village Antiques" to be precise. One picnic table available, but we ate off the tailgate of the truck (which I noticed others were doing too). Tacos were great! Fresh ingredients. "Street tacos" sized. Should have ordered six for two people. My only recommendation: use double tortillas for each taco to reduce spillage and messiness. Otherwise, one can ask for a fork. Wife liked pork. I liked beef. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, with a golden crust that had flavor in every crispy edge. And the carnitas tacos? Authentic, juicy, rich -- exactly what you want in a taco. We literally turned around right after finishing and ordered two more tacos. No shame. Took them to-go and ate them lakeside at Green Lake -- 10/10 vibes. The guys running the truck are genuinely kind-hearted and personable, which just makes the whole experience even better. Why tacos this good are in Payson, I have no idea... but I'm so glad they are.
