Tried to place a delivery (cheese steak, wings, etc - same order roughly every 2 weeks). Gruffly told, "we're not delivering". Very strange. I've been ordering from Mike's for 4-6 years now... what's going on? Edit ------------- Mike's now appears to stop delivering approximately 30 minutes before they close, which is fine, but they won't acknowledge or publicize this fact... I have no issue whatsoever with the practice, but why do I have to figure this out for myself, after repeated specific inquires? For the record, Supreme's, down the street (another local institution specializing in roast beef and pastrami sandwiches), is doing the same thing ("Well, I'm closing tonight at 10, but I will be open tomorrow until 12am"; "Okay, but what are your hours? When do you typically close during the week?"; "Hard to say; usually around ten" (though they're listed as being open until 11); "Yes, but when are you actually closing..." "-- silence --"). C'mon, this isn't Speed's. I realize that the bad economy has hit everyone, but get real! If you're closing early for financial reasons then publicize it and reassure long-time customers that the situation will change when the economy improves. It's that simple. We will understand. Jerk me around however, week-in and week-out, and I'll start looking for other places to eat... read more

Food is decent to good but employees screw up orders all the time and delivery drivers man handle food! For the 3rd order in a row I got something slightly different than I ordered and part of the order was so squished it was inedible. Will never order delivery from Mike's again unless I have no other options. And likely won't order from there at all. read more

Worst food in Gloucester hands down. 1/2 price pasta isn't worth it at any price. Chicken is over cooked to the point where it's not recognizable. Made me sick within 30 minutes of eating, huge mistake to go here, stay away. Just awful. read more

MIKES PLACE IN GLOUCESTER IS HORRIBLE ! I just got served the WORST Burger that I have ever taken a bite of. I ordered it Med Rare and it came out like a hockey puck. The bun was so soggy that my fingers went right through it and couldn't stay together. The bacon was so rubbery that when i took the first bite the whole burger slide out from the soggy bun. Now onto the fries. Cold Cold Cold and also Rubbery. WTF I was so hungry and they ruined my night. OH YEAH this was after waiting 45 min for delivery. They did offer to make me another burger, his response to me "I'll have the cook make another one for you but it'll will be made the same way." When I asked how long for the new one to get here he said "I don't know we are busy" NO THANKS MIKES PLACE....... YOU ARE HORRIBLE !!! read more

Either a greasy hit or a miserable miss. If you are touring, this place will make you feel uneasy. Everyone is very laid back and lazy. So, I ordered a medium rare burger with lettuce. 40 minutes later a greasy styrofoam box arrived. The contents included some crinkle cut fries and a burger dripping with oil. The burger was... very very well done. Hockey puck style. The fries were surprisingly good. But the prices aren't too bad. read more

I placed an order for delivery. I was rushed on the phone and forgot I had to specify sweet sauce. I called back within 2 minutes, literally and I basically had to threaten to cancel my order to get sweet sauce. I specified which door at my house to go to and specifically NOT to go to the other door, guess which door they arrived at.. the one I said not to. My bill came to 16.47 including a 3$ delivery charge. I hand the guy a $20.00 and he just takes off, didn't bother to ask if I wanted change. I was giving the $20.00 anyway, but for it to be assumed that was his tip was just rude. They are lucky they make up for their bad service with decent food, otherwise, I can't see how they would stay in business. read more

Terrible manager, they delivered half of our 60.00 order. Well never ever use this restaurant again. They have many unhappy customers read more

Worst experience I ordered online 2 sandwiches and fries was given a time for pick not only did my husband get there before the time stated he paid and was told they would call his name after waiting 10 mins or so he asked about the progress of our food they said oh its right here and he asked how long it had been sitting there they said everything is hot the fries were not so when he let them know they asked him what do you want us to do really then said they would remake our food if we wait 45 mins he gave them back the fries and left will never eat here again not to mention our food was gross not good customer service what so ever read more

Mikes Place is the perfect late night, drunk, or hangover fast food. With a huge menu, delivery, and cheap prices (you get what you pay for) it can really hit the spot sometimes. They have weekly deals on pizza and pasta dishes. They don't have a public restroom. read more

I used to order food here and it was good. I recently ordered 2 different types of pizza and a Mexican bowl. THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE! The bowl was not good, but the pizzas were inedible. The family members that ate pizza felt sick. When usually we can eat 2 pizzas no problem, after a slice, no one wanted a second one. The next day I took the remaining pizza out of the fridge and decided it would be best just to toss it. The pizza had a thick layer of hardened white fat on top...and no, it wasn't the cheese. I can't describe their crust, but it was the weirdest texture and consistency...not pizza crust at all. I can't say anything good about the pizza at Mike's. It would be best to avoid this place. I just threw $45 in the trash. When I think of Mike's, I think of how sick we felt after eating there. read more

I literally downloaded this app so I could let everyone know how trash this place is. It sucks I even have to give it a 1 Star. I stopped ordering from them over a year ago. Stick to their pizza. The pizza's good. Can't make a decent salad, though. I've tried several times, through the years. Whether it's Tuna, Antipasto, Monterey... whatever, I haven't had any luck. For the money charged, the salad's need to be of better quality. read more

Very disappointing experience. We ordered 2 party pizzas IN PERSON mind you- for a retirement party. They completely butchered one of the pizzas. The order consisted of one half Hawaiian (ham and pineapple) and the other half mushroom, onions, peppers, pepperoni, and sausage. We received one party pizza half onions and mushrooms, and half peppers. This retirement party was taking place at lunchtime so everyone had a very limited amount of time to eat and enjoy. Upon calling the store the manager was EXTREMELY rude and difficult to work with. She said that in order to send a replacement out that she would need the pizza back- but its lunchtime in an office and people want to eat. We asked if she would like a picture because apparently she did not believe that they messed up the pizza. After enough back and forth she didn't even offer to refund the cost of the pizza and settled for a petty 15$ dollars. We frequent this place a lot, and we certainly will no longer order from here. Nor will our office. It was a 60 yr retirement party and they completely messed it up and did not care. BEWARE of using them for any special event because not only will they mess it up- but they will be rude and insensitive to fixing or making the situation better. DONE with MIKES PLACE! read more

If you don't like Mike's, your a dirty communist. Great food at bargain prices. Order for lunch, have enough for dinner.

We've been eating at Mike's for years, but as of today we have decided to never go back again. They are incredibly rude when placing an order and we've had enough. There are plenty of other places in Gloucester that have similar food without the bad services. read more

I just LOVE my "Mikes"!!!! Look at the reviews? Really... an overwhelming great reviews to maybe one or two bad.... those not-so-good reviews? I mean c'mon those folks don't know any better haha. My fave there are the of course their famous roast beef's and my other fave is their Italian subs .... made the old school way.... with chopped pickles, shredded lettuce SO SO SO good... ..I have heard their hot dogs are wicked awesome too. Haven't tried the Pizza but heard that is great there as well. Only thing I was disappointed in was maybe their salad I tried. otherwise...It's the BEST for roast beef definately... . I used to really like this place. We eat here once a week but probably not after tonight though. We usually do pick-up service. Maybe we need to get it delivered and have the delivery guy wait til we open our sandwiches and see if we got the right food... Our past 4 orders went like this: 1. - Egg salad sub was full of shells. I threw it away. 2. Ordered 2 roast beef 3-ways. Hubby got correct order, mine wasn't even close. Took it back and waited for a new sandwich. 3. Ordered steak subs and they were correct. 4. Ordered 3 subs, 2 of which were missing the cheese and mine had old, foul-tasting and foul-smelling roast beef. In the trash. It seems that I'm spending a lot of my hard-earned money on this crap and I keep throwing entire sandwiches away and end up with no dinner and no money. Maybe next Friday I'll just throw a $20 bill in the trash and go without dinner but without the hassle of calling in the order and driving all the way there and back. read more

Not the greatest takeout in the city, but certainly not the worst. But it is certainly one of the more infamous restaurants in the city. The food is decent, while some dishes stick out more than others. Pasta and chicken dishes in particular are very well done. Pasta due to a extremely awesome home made sauce and hand made meatballs. None of that frozen stuff, actual home made and hand rolled meatballs. Great stuff. Chicken dishes are amazing as well, especially chicken parm dishes which give you the best of both worlds as they use their awesome meat sauce giving you a bold blend of flavors. Great stuff. The pizza is above average, but some should be eaten at your own risk. A meat combo from here filled me in two slices and was extremely greasy, the overall food quality was good but not exactly friendly to the rest of you. The staff is friendly but clearly trying to get a lot of orders out at once so don't expect personalized and upbeat service, but you do get efficient service. Though many reviews on here do heavily criticize their delivery and I have to say that poor delivery is the norm, some worse than others obviously. The cost is pretty fair but shopping around their deals for pasta and pizza can end up getting you a very affordable and tasty dinner. read more

Poor service. Rude. Greasy food. Mediocre taste. Order here if you want to plan on an upset stomach. Tough to understand on the phone. No organization. I've ordered food, been charged, only to find out they never even started making my order. read more

Incredibly disappointing. I ordered two small pizzas and an order of mozzarella sticks and when my boyfriend went to pick up the food, they had forgotten to make one of the pizzas. He finally gets back, the food is cold (keep in mind I live within walking distance) and the pizzas weren't even cooked all the way. Completely doughy and soggy. The pizza practically fell apart when taking the first slice out of the box, which is weird cause it wasn't even hot and properly cooked. I really wish I read the yelp reviews before ordering from here because that was the biggest waste of $35. We're totally grossed out & will certainly not be returning. read more

We are new in the area, and we had the occasion to eat at Mike's a couple of times, both inside the restaurant and take out. The food is basically good, but not sure the chicken is always fresh. He has a vast menu including pizza. We ordered pizza twice so far and found it to be very good. Light crust, not burned, the sauce is tasty and good amount of cheese and other toppings. All in all good pizza. Salads are good as well. Roast Beef sandwiches are also good and full of roast beef. Generous with their onion rings and fries. Their Parmesan dishes are not good. They do not put any cheese on top of the chicken, eggplant, veal, etc. Most restaurant put mozzarella cheese on top of the dinner, or at least some "Parmesan" cheese. When we opened our take-out boxes, there was only pasta sauce on the chicken and eggplant. No cheese whatsoever. The chicken was not a breaded bake breast, but small pieces of breaded, chunked chicken deep fried and sauce put on top, and no cheese. The pasta was underneath. When we called to ask why there was no mozzarella, and no parmesan, a woman who said she was the manager, Shelly, told us in so many words, too bad, "that is how we make it". She made no attempt to try and diffuse our concern and to give curtious customer service. When we said, why don't you at least put some parmesan sprinkled on top as parmesan means cheese, she rudely hung-up on us. Hanging-up on customers like that is not only bad manners, but bad for business. Others staff behaves for the most part, politely. I wonder if the owner knows his manager argues with customers, and rudely hangs-up on people when they have a legitimate complaint. Perhaps he has a lot of money in the bank and does not care if his manager, Shelly, is rude to customers and chases them away. R.W. read more

I decided to give Mike's place another shot after having multiple less than stellar experiences here in the past. I feel like every time I eat here it's under new ownership, so I always hope for the best. If there is one thing I crave from Mike's it's the Honey BBQ Steak Tips. My order for this particular delivery was a Honey BBQ Steak Tip Dinner (Steak Fries only) and an order of Cheesy Garlic Stix. The steak tips themselves were great as anticipated. Ordered medium-rare and were cooked perfectly to my liking. Generous portion of about 5 to 6 good size tips. Props to Mike's for putting them in tin foil to make sure they stay hot, travel well and the juices stay with the meat. Steak fries included in the dinner were the real let down here. Soggy, slightly-under cooked. I ate just a few and tossed the rest. I guess I could have asked for "crispy fries," but I feel like that is implied? The cheesy garlic stix was the size of a small pizza and came in a pizza box. Pizza dough was crispy and golden, but the heavy coating of garlic spread and melting cheese made for a few soggy spots towards the middle. Overall I would say average. Not sure I would order this again. The total bill for this meal after tip to my delivery driver was roughly $28. Price point here definitely did not reflect my experience. If I decide to eat here again, I would get only a Honey BBQ Steak Tip sub. With that said I would probably think about all the other great food options in town and decide to go with them because I could get higher quality food at a reduced price. I really only recommend going to Mike's Place if nothing else is an option. read more

Absolutely horrible. I usually order out but I've been there a few times. Recently I go so angry at the so-called manager that I called him a shitty manager. I swung in just because I was hoping for something quick for take out. I wasn't expecting a 4 star meal but just something quick. I go in and the cooler was broken, the idiot was behind the counter telling everyone how great he is, the wrong order was given to me and I saw a mouse run around from out of the kitchen. I finally got the correct food and I went home and it was horrible. It was just gobs of grease and bits of meat. I just threw it away and said never again. I figure they can't be in business longer so I will wait until it changes owners again. I was going to not say anything, but looking at Yelp these people bought the place in 2012. If you miss old Mikes place, do what I'm going to do. Go to Beverly. Maybe we can get delivery? Ronald Parker read more

The poorest attempt at customer service in Gloucester. Don't bother giving them your hard earned money. I've had several terrible experiences with Mike's Place, and I'm not sure why I've continued to support this horrendous excuse of a business. Often when you call, they'll pick up the phone and then hang-up on you. If you manage to get ahold of anyone at the restaurant (on the phone or in person), you're are met with piss-poor attitudes, ignorance, and a blatant lack of courtesy. The staff has clearly not been trained in food service etiquette. I've had food delivered to my household coated in melted styrofoam. Subs come partially flattened, and stale. Pizza has arrived with flies imbedded in the cheese, and drinks are routinely forgotten. As you may have gathered, I've given this company more than it's fair chance at redemption. If you have visited or lived in Gloucester, you've probably found yourself with a rather restricted list of options for fast food delivery. This fact gives Mike's Place an unfortunate near-monopoly over the people of this city and its frequent visitors. Gloucester deserves better than this. read more

If I could have chosen zero stars, I would have. I have eaten at Mike's pretty consistently for the past ten years, and I am let down by my lack of resolve since I have told myself at least 20 times "I will never eat there again" after disappointing and/or disgusting meals. I just ordered a buffalo chicken finger caesar salad, and not only was the chicken undercooked, soggy, and of horrible quality meat, there was a nice white hair right on the first piece that I went to eat. Oh man where do I start with this place? I've been a recent customer (past 3 months), and to sum up mikes place, their all about quantity and speed not quality. They're fast, have a menu which is wayyyyyyy too big and staff that are far too busy. Whoever owns this place thinks that expanding their menu would solve all their problems. Wrong. Mikes needs to focus on the basics before you expand the menu, pizza is decent, specials are good deals but making the menu 7 pages long is where this place falls short. The roast beef is good, and the girls behind the counter are sweet and efficient. The onion rings are horrible, clumps full of flour and not thick enough. Think beer batter. Chicken parm sub was chewy scraps of chicken, maybe consider thick piece of breast meat? House dressing is just appalling, a dressing should be one third vinegar and two thirds oil and some sugar, not just Sysco brand dressing with a couple of your own spices mixed in. Decent place but they need to dumb down the menu and focus on the simple things. Pasta calzone? 100 different wraps? How about just offer your subs as a wrap instead of installing SEVEN tv screens to display a bunch of dishes people never get? Who runs this place? I think they should hand ownership to the girls at the register who tell you what's good and what to stay away from. Destinos for this family... read more

Been giving the benefit of a doubt for years.. Last straw today. Although the person who barely speaks/understands English repeated my order correctly was indeed not correct upon pick up. When I called for a manager I was asked to hold and then the same person came back telling me that unless I wanted to bring the wrong order back for them to fix that they wouldn't rectify their error. Which I could not due because I had picked up my order and then left town. Even with that information they provided me with no solution. Despite ordering there multiple times a week because it is new my home; I will never order nor suggest anyone order from there ever again. They have no customer service standards and will be losing many customers due to their lack of sympathy for their error. Wasted my time and money and the food is mediocre at best. We are regular customers but are seriously thinking of changing our once a week takeout place. We get a pasta dish and you never know from one week to the next if the chicken will be tender or tough but what kills it is what is with the stale, awful bread that they serve with it. How hard is it for a sub place to serve fresh bread with the pasta. At least with the pasta there is a chance that it will be ok but the bread has never been ok. Tonight the chicken was tough and there was about 2 pc of broccoli. Ended up throwing the whole thing away and sharing my salad so he wouldn't be starving. You won't get many more chances. read more
