Passport Restaurants is one of the best restaurants in Beverly. It's a really beautiful restaurant,…read morewith white tablecloths, flowers at every corner, and nice jazz music. Really ideal ambiance. I like everything I've tried here, which has included the passport grilled chicken sandwich, burger, fries, power bowl, and house-broth ramyeon. They have so many options, anyone in your party would be happy with their selection of seafood, meat, vegetarian, pasta & more options. I ordered their harvest bowl which was really delicious, however the steak comes cold and i was charged $3 for not a lot of sweet potato, I would have preferred more sweet potato. I have now dined in once to get their house-broth ramyeon which is absolutely delicious. Their water is filtered with lemon & mint, and the restaurant is so pretty with white tablecloths for a "casual" experience with amazing food. passport grilled chicken sandwich 10/10 cheeseburger 9/10 fries 10/10 power bowl 8.8/10 house-broth ramyeon 10/10 Henry is back! He's incredibly hospitable and kind, everyone here has been but it's nice to see him in the front! We loved the Boursin cheese appetizer- the tacos and risotto were delicious! The staff are knowledgeable about the food and courteous as well. We saw all ages, 2-100 & all kinds of food choices. Ambiance 7/10 Food 7/10…read moreStaff 10/10 I got married in Gloucester a couple months ago, and we hosted our welcome party at Minglewood Harborside. As far as events, I would give HIGHLY recommend hosting here. The cost for the area was unbeatable, and the food and service was excellent. Let me break it down. We visited beforehand to try the food to make sure it was good to serve to our guests. We tried the bang bang shrimp, chicken tenders and calamari which were some of our potential options. The bang bang shrimp and the chicken tenders were absolutely delicious, but the calamari had absolutely no flavor. We were glad we tried it beforehand so we could make an informed menu decision. We reached out to begin booking about a year or so in advance. I will say, there were times throughout the planning process where my communications and emails went unanswered and I would have to send follow-ups to nudge for a reply. Other than that, our party went fantastically. We had about 120 people which was definitely maximum capacity. Its not the most visually pleasing room or lighting, but it did the job for what we needed. It got very hot in the room but we were able to open the windows which helped. The food was excellent and we could easily order more throughout the night if we needed it. We had cocktail shrimp as one of our items and the shrimp were enormous. We also had salads, charcuterie, bang bang shrimp, sliders, tenders, and more. The drinks were great and the bartenders and staff were so nice. Our party ended at 9 and most people left but we stayed until 10 with some of our friends to drink and dance and they didn't seem to mind at all. Overall it was a wonderful experience and the perfect start to our wedding weekend.

They have the best chowder in the downtown area of Gloucester if you are walking around the harbor…read moreand shopping but don't want to get in your car again. The restaurant is pretty big and the wait staff are really nice and friendly. The menu is good sized, reasonably priced for the portions and delicious. You can eat out on their deck or there's a nice view of the harbor. There are two bars and I imagine it gets pretty packed in the summer. I send people here when asked where to go for standard fish and chips fare and feel vindicated now that I've returned in the off season. On the negative side- the vibe is corporate- like you're eating in a hotel lobby in the Midwest. There was one piece of art that looked local and if not for that, you could have been anywhere. Not a damning criticism but also the music made me feel like I was in Ohio not Gloucester. Someone had the station on contemporary country and it was loud. Men singing about going home with drunk women with low self esteem and trying to win back custody of their kids- it's the worst vibe for me. I kept looking at the waitresses trying to determine which one I could pay to change it. If the food wasn't so good and the staff wasn't so nice I would have left. There were so few other customers compared to the other restaurants we passed by I wondered if it was because the music was the reason. There's a way to say "we are a working class hangout " without blasting music that glorifies heavy drinking and dim wits in the background. The restaurant owners have curated every other aspect of the experience- they should go to Oak to Ember or the Franklin at night and realize that the music in addition to the atmosphere makes it or breaks it.

Nice location and nice staff, but the food was disappointing…read more The seaside pub atmosphere made me optimistic and warm service made me optimistic, but as soon as the lobster rolls arrived I knew it would be underwhelming. The lobster was dry, gummy and the meat pieces were small and sparse. For $40, which is more than a lobster roll with 4 times the meat and 10 times the quality costs in Boston, it was a bit of a rip-off. On the positive side, the tater tots were great. They were crispy and served piping hot fresh. They probably came from a frozen bag, but they were made well. The fish chowder was not bad. Although the soup was not very rich and somewhat underseasoned, the fish seemed fresh and was flaky and tasty. Fries were not great (likely also from a bag, under seasoned, fast-food thin, and served lukewarm). The atmosphere may merit a visit for drinks, but food may be a gamble.
