I'm sad to write this. I've been going here since elementary school and it was always consistent and pretty good. My favorite was a cheesesteak because they were the only place in town using pieces of steak, not just a pile of chopped beef. They both have their places, but I just loved that. Anyway, went tonight for a cheesesteak and it was one of the worst I've ever had. It was soaking wet, all little tiny bits of chopped beef that were gristly and had some hard bits, and no discernible cheese? So clearly things have changed and based on that (and months back a friend getting cartilage in her chicken salad) I just can't imagine going back. It actually sucks to say that because there's so little remaining in the area that has any nostalgia, but this was just bad. read more

Where do I start with this place. I used to come here all the time and remember the food being enjoyable. However, more recently, the decline in quality is irredeemable. Everything tastes like it's been rotting in the sun for months on end. Absolutely disgusting. The owner needs to get it together, not only is the food beyond nasty, she is rude to the staff that works for her. The people at the front are so friendly and helpful and should find another job where they aren't treated as subhuman. Avoid this restaurant at all costs, there are plenty of other fantastic food options in Gloucester with competent owners and food that doesn't taste like they grabbed a handful of garbage and threw it on the grill. read more

I'm new to Gloucester and everyone recommended Yellow Sub to me. The first time I went in there, what seemed like the owner, was yelling at her employees and giving them attitude. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a fat yellow sub and it tasted like hell on a roll. I thought I would give this place another try because everyone has bad days however it was bad the second time as well. The owner made me and other customers feel uncomfortable with the way she treated employees. She treated them awful by criticizing them in front of a crowd of customers. Like the food but the prices are getting ridiculous. A small chicken salad sub on the online menu is priced at $9.00. I added one piece of cheese. I was charged $11.36!! When I called back I was told the price was now $10.00 and the cheese was an additional .60. plus tax. I have been going to Yellow Sub since the shop opened in 1972. I have been nothing but a loyal customer. Every week I'd go in and get a large tuna with extra pickles on it. Was the best sub ever for years on end. Unfortunately, the food has gone down drastically!!! The tuna taste like it came from babsons reservoir. Absolutely smells like sewer!!!! It's so watered down and slimy. I've noticed it's been like this since the new owner took over. She needs to hire a social media manager because the pictures she puts on social media of the food is horrible!!! She has no concept of good customer service and everytime I'm in there she's always side eyeing the workers and seems a bit rude. The workers and staff (besides her) are fantastic. I expressed my tuna concerns with the owner and she just claimed that there's nothing different with the tuna.... LIAR!!!! Excellent everything. Great service, too! Seriously - the deli items like macaroni salad, tuna, chicken, and egg salad are fantastic. And as far as the subs - these guys made mine with the lettuce and all the slippery stuff that wants to squeeze out on the bottom of everything else. Brilliant. No mess. Old school deli I wanted to be better than it was. The girl that took my order wasn't interested to hear what I'd like on my sandwich, I had to go back and ask for cheese twice and both times I was given American instead of cheddar. The girl was attentive to my boyfriend, his tuna sandwich was pretty good and she did ask questions as to what he wanted. read more

The worst Chicken Cutlet sub I've ever had. Not only was it over cooked and cooked in old grease, but if you zoom into my picture on the right you can see how wafer thin the chicken cutlets were. They were similar to eating beef jerky as far as trying to take a bite out of it. This was my first time there and will be my last time. read more

I'm so sad we found this place on our last night in town :( But this place's food is A-MAZING and super budget friendly! We ordered a large cold and hot sub and an order of chicken wings. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, with everything perfectly seasoned. The wings were pretty sizeable (not on the small side), and they definitely did not skimp on any of the meat fillings in the subs, which themselves were very filling. And on top of how great the food tasted, the staff were SO nice and friendly even though it was the very end of the day. I also loved the decor in this humble little restaurant (lots of Yellow Submarine references ;) one of my favorite songs). Next time we are in the Gloucester area, we are heading straight over to the Yellow Sub Shop and gladly eating here every single day!! ;D read more

I just paid 50 something dollars for the WORST food I've ever had in my life! Very small portions. Everything I ordered was dry and way overcooked. The home fries were basically french fries cut up into small pieces. The sausage and bacon seemed like it had been sitting out for a whole day. The pancakes crumbled as soon as I stabbed my fork into them, no amount of syrup could save them! The eggs were okay but still pretty dry and overcooked. I just don't understand how you mess up breakfast this bad and expect 55 bucks for such low quality food. They also forgot two of my sides and I had to go back out to get food that wasn't even worth eating. The throw up that this food caused tasted better than eating the food itself... Orders are often messed up, lady I just spoke with on the phone seems absolutely miserable. Did not have any manors at all and seemed quite annoyed when I asked her for a total. She should be fired to say the least, sorry you're miserable but working in customer service you need to at least pretend to be happy. Ordered a cheese steak sub with peppers and onions. Girl on the phone asked if I'd like them grilled, I said sautéed is fine. Picked up sub, got home and opened to find no peppers, no onions and hardly any cheese. I could understand a mistake like this if they were busy but I was the only one in the store and other than the girl at the register they weren't doing much.
