Stopped by for a quick breakfast. The service was fast and there was plenty of seating inside. There's paid parking out front or if you don't mind walking you may be able to find a free spot a bit further out. Let me say that the biscuit itself was 5/5. It was crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside and it was massive. The biscuit was definitely the star of the show. We got the breakfast sandwich which had egg, cheese and arugula but I found it to be lacking in flavor overall. This was a spur of the moment find on our way to Hammond Castle (also well worth a visit). We were hangry and looking for breakfast-ish options and Source Bakery more than hit the spot. Their menu is centered around the almighty biscuit - biscuits/scones are one of my favorite ways to inhale carbs but they can run on the too bread-y side of the spectrum. These were fantastic: delicate crumb, beautiful golden color, and sturdy enough to hold in all the sandwich fillings. I went with the classic breakfast egg sandwich (scrambled egg, cheese, and arugula) and added sausage. This was one of those rare situations where the bread vehicle outshined the fillings. The egg, while nice and fluffy (and tasted like real egg instead of the diluted mix I've had elsewhere), could have used some more seasoning and was begging for a healthy dollop of ketchup or hot sauce. The only thing that came through strongly was the salt crystals on the top of the biscuit. Tried a bite of my husband's chicken salad on a cheddar/onion biscuit and had the same reaction - the biscuit overpowered everything else. Not that I'm complaining. The bakery is on a side street off the busier, more touristy Rogers Street. I had this idea too late but next time I'm in Gloucester, I'd take a biscuit sandwich to the beach area along Western Ave. The cafe itself is very, very cute, with little nooks and crannies everywhere for seating and even a comfy looking couch. We love coming to this bakery when we are in town. It really is phenomenal and deserves all five stars. I highly recommend their buttermilk biscuit. We had the sausage, goat, cheese, and arugula biscuit sandwich. It was amazing. We also had the miso breakfast sandwich, which was also excellent though it is just served on regular bread, which isn't anything remarkable. We also got a monkey bread which we had gotten before, and it was delicious. They also recommended a sweet hand pie, and we got the apple one. Stopped in before a work event and had the breakfast sandwich and a blueberry hand pie...came back two hours later with coworkers and had the coffee cake; this place is just that good! The biscuit is fantastic: slightly crispy exterior and fluffy interior. The hand pie was phenomenal as well. The coffee cake was good - the other two items stood out more - but then again, my taste buds may have just been desensitized by all of the carbs I had within a few hours. Finally a coffee shop w delicious coffee in gloucester!!!!!! We were in town visiting for two days and we went there total of three times! Their cold brew is pure bliss and perfect! So good i had to buy the beans to make it at home. The place makes their baked good from scratch and EVERYTHING is delicious! Their yogurt w granola and jam is to die for, their biscuit is so crispy yet buttery, their apple crisp pie is rich w apple gooey warmth w the perfect amount of crispy crumbs on top. Their reubin breakfast sandwich was one of the best ive ever had and loved that it wasnt so meaty but more sauerkraut-y ! Our favorite North Shore Baker now in Gloucester! Discovered this gem at Salem MA Farmers Market a few years ago. Everything we tasted was excellent. My favorite is the plain buttermilk biscuit. Tastes just like my Irish Grandmother's ones I watched her make from scratch over 50 years ago. I have been searching for this biscuit for over half a century. Love them so much I would mail order them or have several put aside at the market. The space they are in was once Alchemy. The space is great to people watch but it lacks a feeling of warmth and feels tired. Could use updated bench cushions and different colored paint and better lighting. The products are excellent. The lemonade is way too sweet. The hot coffee is superb. And those biscuits came with onions and cheddar this time. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. read more

The best option in Gloucester, period, for baked goods and a simple breakfast sandwich. Very cool spot that is off the beaten path. The menu is limited which is a plus in my opinion. They make a few things really really well at a very fair price. If you are looking for an oat milk, steamed latte and a crummy bagel, head to Starbucks but if you want an incredible breakfast sandwich at a fair price, then come here.
