Cute little place for a quick coffee and small breakfast. The Salmon Lox bagel is great. Coffee and latte were delish. They have 7 or 8 tables if you'd like to order and sit but not quite a full-service dining type of joint. The cinnamon rolls and quiche also looked amazing so we'll have to come back! Also the brekkie sandwiches sounded tasty. Drive thru available as well if you are on the go.

Lemon Blueberry pound cake and apple strudel.

Soy Latte was good and hot. Lemon blueberry pound cake was distinctively lemony if not a tad on the too sweet and dry side. (Sugar free muffin available.) Clearly a local neighborhood shop with a popular drive thru. Apple strudel was fresh and flaky but filling tasted canned. Inside, the cashier was on the brusque-business like side of things but she kept things moving on a hoppin' Sunday morning in summertime Gloucester.

Oozy and delicious ham, egg, and cheese on an English muffin

Ham, egg, and cheese and a medium iced coffee. Done and done. The coffee is fresh and light. The service is always with a smile, and relaxed. The breakfast sandwiches are out of this world! It's thin thin sliced ham, but stacked nice and thick to really fill you up. It's definitely a pit stop when I'm in town.

I had visited a number of years ago I realized, and it looks largely the same, like a cozy surf shop within a café including merchandise and zesty decorations around. It's popular and can get cramped with everyone waiting, so there's also an outdoor patio kind of seating area too. The entrance is an unassuming storefront on the main street of Gloucester and down a set of stairs. I had to order the special golden hour latte, a sublime mix of vanilla, cinnamon, and honey flavors with vanilla cold foam. It was one of the best lattes I've had in a while! To eat I had the avocado bacon bagel, a wonderful menu item that hit the spot. Everyone there is very nice. Castaways is a memorable breakfast place, for sure worth visiting if you're in the area during the morning and early afternoon.

There's a ton of great food and drink options including fun coffee specialties. I was able to customize my iced coffee order and it tasted really good! Had to kind of lead him through the sale. He didn't seem to be much help. But, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that I walked in at a bad time because the shop was so cute. Lots of things I would look at if I had more time. The baked goods were wonderful! I had a beautiful, fresh, huge, strawberry muffin! Loved every bite! My friend got a lemon square and it was equally scrumptious. I'll definitely stop there again and give it another shot.

I really hate to leave a bad review for a small local business. But this was just inexcusable…read more Ordered two sandwiches from the menu. The turkey melt and chicken salad wrap. Was charged $10.75 + tax for chicken salad with a few stray cranberries, and a piece of lettuce. no salt, pepper, seasoning or even the walnuts that were stated on the menu. The turkey melt was supposed to come with turkey, swiss, bacon, tomato, and drizzle which I assumed was balsamic or something similar. It was a slice of turkey and cheese. Period. For $11.75 + tax. Same price as the sandwich i ordered, from the menu, which i ordered by the name as it is written, on the menu. Absurd. And waited 20 minutes, as they said that was how long it would take, and walked out of my way for this. Quality of turkey was good. Everything else about this experience was so incredibly disappointing.

They make a great biscuit, and I love how many seasonal items they have. In October I had the MOST delicious delicata spinach feta caramelized onion quiche, even at room temp. I got there around 10:45 on a Saturday and just beat a long line. Note the cinnamon rolls were gone by then. They had a ton of good looking seasonal hand pies and tarts as well. There wasn't any seating left, so I took my treats to go. The cranberry pear crumble was phenomenal- truly one of the best things I've ever eaten- and left at room temp the masterful layers in the crust were still crisp even the next day! My husband got a pumpkin muffin, which was very lightly spiced and had a moist crumb. Back in the summer we tried a very good zucchini pecan muffin, but there were not many options left at 1:00 on a weekend. In terms of coffee, they use Broadsheet beans. The cold brew is very strong. They don't use Oatly, but the oat milk cappuccino I got was still good (strong, but perfect once I added a little more oat milk) & at $4.75 it's totally reasonable! This really is a special place, and worth the trip if you are visiting the Rockport or Gloucester area! Be sure to check their hours on IG as they close for summer vacation.

Let me say that the biscuit itself was 5/5. It was crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside and it was massive. The biscuit was definitely the star of the show. We got the breakfast sandwich which had egg, cheese and arugula but I found it to be lacking in flavor overall. I think next times I'd prefer a plain biscuit or to order one with just jam and butter instead of the sandwich.

I grew up in Boston and went with family to Cape Ann many times. I recently met my cousins for a…read morefew nights and we stopped by this place our hotel recommended. What a mistake. All 3 of us ordered the egg sandwich. It's cooked egg (like a puck) on 2 slices of plain bread with about 1 teaspoon of cheese that is such a small amount that it doesn't cover most of the egg. That's it. Not enough cheese, no butter, no salt, no pepper. Nothing. They don't even toast the bread. If we had tasked our 6 year old nephew to making us egg sandwiches, this is what he would hand us. My cousins had coffee. One hot and the other cold. Hot reportedly is pretty good and the iced is not very strong. I ordered an iced tea. When iced tea is made fresh from actual tea (a good thing), then sits in the fridge for 6 or 7 days (a bad thing), it gets a very distinctive stale taste and that's exactly what this iced tea had. It was old and stale. I threw it away and since the egg sandwich was so dry, I pulled a bottle of water I had in my beach tote to wash it down. My cousin asked the friendly staffer (super friendly, actually, so a shout out to them) for some salt and this turned into a task. She had to ask someone else and that person had to go off somewhere to get some from a plastic container. If you're going to serve unseasoned food, have salt available, please. I ordered a croissant, which was OK and my other cousin ordered a blueberry slab dessert that was smothered in so much icing that it was sickeningly sweet. We joked that eying it from the side, the icing was thicker than the pastry itself. One of us grabbed a knife and tried to scrape some off to no avail. It fell apart, none of us wanted any more and we tossed most of it. I like to support small businesses, but this was not a good experience for us.
