I grew up in Boston and went with family to Cape Ann many times. I recently met my cousins for a few nights and we stopped by this place our hotel recommended. What a mistake. All 3 of us ordered the egg sandwich. It's cooked egg (like a puck) on 2 slices of plain bread with about 1 teaspoon of cheese that is such a small amount that it doesn't cover most of the egg. That's it. Not enough cheese, no butter, no salt, no pepper. Nothing. They don't even toast the bread. If we had tasked our 6 year old nephew to making us egg sandwiches, this is what he would hand us. My cousins had coffee. One hot and the other cold. Hot reportedly is pretty good and the iced is not very strong. I ordered an iced tea. When iced tea is made fresh from actual tea (a good thing), then sits in the fridge for 6 or 7 days (a bad thing), it gets a very distinctive stale taste and that's exactly what this iced tea had. It was old and stale. I threw it away and since the egg sandwich was so dry, I pulled a bottle of water I had in my beach tote to wash it down. My cousin asked the friendly staffer (super friendly, actually, so a shout out to them) for some salt and this turned into a task. She had to ask someone else and that person had to go off somewhere to get some from a plastic container. If you're going to serve unseasoned food, have salt available, please. I ordered a croissant, which was OK and my other cousin ordered a blueberry slab dessert that was smothered in so much icing that it was sickeningly sweet. We joked that eying it from the side, the icing was thicker than the pastry itself. One of us grabbed a knife and tried to scrape some off to no avail. It fell apart, none of us wanted any more and we tossed most of it. I like to support small businesses, but this was not a good experience for us. read more

We were passing through as I grew up in Lanesville and wanted to see how it looked lately and saw the Cove Cafe. I believe this location used to have a different name and am not sure how new this place is. The service was very friendly and it wasn't busy at all on a Sunday morning. They have a few iced coffee flavors, a few baked items (which actually looked really good and tempted us) and do various breakfast sandwiches. They also have a cabinet with quiche to go which really looked good. We went with the iced banana hazelnut and props to them as it tasted great - you could really taste the banana and it didn't leave a weird aftertaste at all. The breakfast sandwich was just okay. Basic egg and cheese (cheese only on one side so you have a plain piece of toast on the other) that was seemingly only available on bread and was toasted a bit too much so the crust was darkened and crunchy. The egg was nicely done though. Prices were fine - seemed on par with most breakfast sandwich and iced coffee prices. I'm happy to see a thriving coffee place in downtown Lanesville and I would definitely be back if I lived closer to it. read more

I was referred to this place by a good friend who lives in the area . I wanted a quick small bite to eat. However as soon as my family and I walked in we weren't greeted, rather that we got a "are you going to be together or separate" annoyed type of attitude. The older woman working the front made it seem we where a bother or as if she was just annoyed to be there. Kept saying is that it and just overall the energy was not what we anticipated. She was the first person we seen, I just thought a warm welcome was how we still Greeted people, especially being a friendly town.The other girls working seemed nice , but I probably won't go back. I was working on a training program in the area, and looking for a quick, QUALITY bite to eat for lunch, nothing too heavy. Found this place, drove over and it's a cute little shop right above the ocean. The cafe is really cute and homey, the people are super nice, and most of all, they have so many delicious options. They have plenty of bakery and pastry items, as well as a menu for all their breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I went for the Rachie, obviously, as I was craving avocado. Piles of turkey with provologne cheese, spinach, tomato, avocado, mayo, on a toasted everything bagel. I'm not too big on hot sandwiches but they toasted it and I don't think it could have turned out any better! Full of flavor, ingredients, and the type of place you WANT to spend your money, and will not regret it! Cove Cafe is right down the street from me, meaning I'm there a lot. The sandwiches are great, but where they really shine is their muffins. The blueberry ones are possibly the best I've had in my life. If you're in the neighborhood you can't skip them! Their Lanesvillian breakfast sandwich is also great when you need a hearty but quick breakfast. And of course, the staff is all great. It's a popular neighborhood spot and you can tell (in the best way). Anyways, if you're in the area, you should stop for some coffee and food! You won't regret it!! read more

We live in Annisquam, and the Cove Cafe is our go-to place for the best iced coffee on the island. Great options for something sweet (the raspberry cronuts are amazing) or savory egg sandwiches (the Lanesvilian special!) for something a little more substantial. So happy it's close by! read more

Well, a cafe with a small menu is not being stacked against Michelin star rated restaurant for example. Price range and genres against others in that class. Review: I've driven past the Cove Cafe many times before but usually when I'm going to Rockport in the evening or afternoon to shoot photos. My most recent trip down 127 took me by around lunch time and I decided to stop for a sandwich. This place is exactly what it needs to be and a great little cafe for a great little neighborhood of Gloucester. It's got a handful of sandwich options that cover most people's tastes, and breakfast sandwiches. You can also custom build a sandwich and they have a range of coffee and cold drinks. I ordered the Turkey Ranch wrap; turkey, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and ranch dressing all in perfect proportion. It didn't have much seating but there was room for maybe 10 guests. If you're out enjoying a summer drive along the Gloucester coast and want to stop for a bite in a small New England seaside neighborhood, stop here in Lanesville and hit up the Cove Cafe. read more

Although there is no such thing as perfection, the Cove Cafe certainly comes close to being the perfect place! I ordered sandwiches, quiche and fruit with yogurt last weekend for our daughter's bridal shower. All of the items were packaged superbly well, and they thoughtfully brought them and placed them into my car. The best part? All of the food was amazingly tasty, fresh and my bridal shower guests were raving about how beautiful the food looked/was presented, and how delicious it was too! Cove Cafe outdid themselves with their level of service, quality and professionalism. Their prices were very reasonable too, and I will be telling everyone to consider them when they need either a caterer, or delicious food and coffee to go too!
