As far as coffee shops go, this one is a little far for me to frequent. However, the seating is ah-may-zing, and I will definitely make the trek out here for the comfy couches to hang out on and do work. There are a lot of fun drink options as well, though I think the plain black coffee is just average. This is a great stop in the downtown Gloucester area with lots of other stores to wander around near it. There's really only street parking around here, but it's not too hard to find a spot. Definitely come here for local cozy coffee shop vibes.

Such a sweet place in lovely downtown Gloucester. Nothing fancy schmancy. It's the kind of place where you feel at home. A big sofa, local artwork on the wall, good easy-listening music...cuppa Joe or herbal tea and you're all set to work on your laptop, have a chat, read or just soak up the calm energy. Make no mistake: this place ain't boring. It's obviously a popular place among locals who get their caffeine fix or herbal tea accompanied by any of a good variety of pastry. If I'd live here, I'd be a regular. Now I just grab every chance I have to sit down with a cuppa herbal tea and "plain cookie," to soak up the New England feeling of this place.

The Lone Gull is like a breath of fresh air when it comes to smaller coffee houses on the North Shore. With an ever-revolving list of specialty coffees, and now an expanded menu that includes panini sandwiches, plus an array of delicious breakfast staples and bakery goodies, it's hard to beat the Lone Gull. The staff is great, and have never messed up my order. Depending on how busy it gets, they're cordial, friendly, and chatty. The line can be long, but that's a testament to how awesome the place is. Tip- go in during mid-day to early afternoon and you'll avoid the going to/leaving work crowds. I used to go to the Lone Gull every day when I lived just up the street. Now, not as often because I just don't find myself in the West End portion of downtown Gloucester. You seriously have to try it though, especially if you're a coffee addict like I am. There is no way you'll be disappointed!

Enjoyed the beautiful day, plenty of outdoor seating and seeing all the young baseball players and their families enjoying a meal! Drinks are inside at the bar, bathrooms could be cleaner haha. The food ran about $80 after lobster roll basket, clam chowder cup and two bottled drinks. Good amount of lobster, and picturesque for the amount on the plate. There was however no seasoning or flavor but some folks probably like the plain lobster itself. There wasn't much hot butter on our order, least none that we could really detect. Cooked well but super bland. The clam chowder was extremely watery and bland. Need like 3 packets of pepper and a packet of salt.. Everything else about the space, the view, the seating was great on a beautiful New England day! Staff taking your order at window was nice, pickup your food via buzzer at the further window!

Also seen on menu: lobster roll for $45. Not even kidding. But, a whole lobster for $25 and 2 for $35! Now that's a good deal. And they were good sized! Now that don't make sense. If I hadn't had pounds of lobster the previous week I'd have gotten that but I didn't have clams yet so that's what I picked. There was a live band blasting but luckily we managed to find a place inside on the veranda so it didn't bother us.

This was a spur of the moment find on our way to Hammond Castle (also well worth a visit). We were…read morehangry and looking for breakfast-ish options and Source Bakery more than hit the spot. Their menu is centered around the almighty biscuit - biscuits/scones are one of my favorite ways to inhale carbs but they can run on the too bread-y side of the spectrum. These were fantastic: delicate crumb, beautiful golden color, and sturdy enough to hold in all the sandwich fillings. I went with the classic breakfast egg sandwich (scrambled egg, cheese, and arugula) and added sausage. This was one of those rare situations where the bread vehicle outshined the fillings. The egg, while nice and fluffy (and tasted like real egg instead of the diluted mix I've had elsewhere), could have used some more seasoning and was begging for a healthy dollop of ketchup or hot sauce. The only thing that came through strongly was the salt crystals on the top of the biscuit. Tried a bite of my husband's chicken salad on a cheddar/onion biscuit and had the same reaction - the biscuit overpowered everything else. Not that I'm complaining. The bakery is on a side street off the busier, more touristy Rogers Street. I had this idea too late but next time I'm in Gloucester, I'd take a biscuit sandwich to the beach area along Western Ave. The cafe itself is very, very cute, with little nooks and crannies everywhere for seating and even a comfy looking couch. Bathroom was clean. We found a parking lot one street over in the other direction.

We had the sausage, goat, cheese, and arugula biscuit sandwich. It was amazing. We also had the miso breakfast sandwich, which was also excellent though it is just served on regular bread, which isn't anything remarkable. We also got a monkey bread which we had gotten before, and it was delicious. They also recommended a sweet hand pie, and we got the apple one. It was also excellent - not too sweet, not heavy, just flaky goodness. This is an absolute five star experience worth every bite of saturated fat, salt, and sugar!!
