There was a nice outdoor patio, but it was a bit too cold and breezy, so we opted for a booth. We ordered arancini for an appetizer. Three on the dish, but they were big. The gravy/sauce served with them was warm and tasty...not acidic at all. They bring over sliced Italian bread with butter. Next up was a half pepperoni, half mushroom pizza. The crust was thin and crispy. It was a bit oily, but nonetheless, delicious. We were planning to order coffee and desert, but the server brought us the bill without asking, and that was the only thing we didn't like about this place. We will definitely try again.

Our experience at Short & Main was abysmal. The manager was at the root of all the problems. It…read morestarted when we got to the restaurant 15 minutes ahead of our reservation. He pushed us towards the bar and we ordered drinks. After our 7:45 reservation came and went, a dish of almonds appeared where we were standing with our cocktails. We never ordered these, as I am allergic to tree nuts. We just pushed them to the side and thought nothing of it. When we eventually sat at a table for dinner, we ordered drinks, oysters, and two pizzas. One pizza has cheese and the other pizza (the Rosso) is only sprinkled with Parmesan, and is commonly known in Italy as a pizza senza formaggio. After waiting over 40 minutes for our food after being sat late, only the cheese pizza arrived. We waited over 20 minutes and talked to our waiter and kitchen multiple times to see what was going on with the other pizza. Apparently the pizza chef kept burning the cheese free pizza, an item on their menu that he is apparently not able to make. Finally the pizza was made, and the manager delivered it to the table next to us. They asked why they were given a pizza without cheese, and we had to walk over to the table to grab it. Our waiter came over and asked if everything turned out, and we shared we were disappointed the manager gave the pizza to the wrong table. He told us he had nothing to do with that and was embarrassed. After we started eating, our waiter came back to tell us the pizza and the almonds were comped. We had never ordered the almonds, and shared that we were surprised we would have been charged for something we never ordered and shared my allergies. He said it was the best his manager allowed him to do. Not once did the manager come by to apologize for delivering the pizza to the wrong table or for messing up our order or for making our experience so poor. To be "comped" something we didn't order as an apology for our table wait was absurd. Terrible experience, mediocre food, incompetent manager. Would not recommend.

When you walk in, the decor is such that you feel like you entered someone's dining room. I even remarked to the waiter how much I loved the wood table I was sitting at. Everyone was dressed casual and seemed to be having a good time. There is a big bar that is separate from the dining room with a lot of televisions tuned into sports. If you are into that, this is a great place for sports night. Anyway, the menu has individual and family size pizzas, oversized sandwiches, salads and entrees. The kids menu is good too. I ordered a sandwich with mozzarella sticks, french fries, chicken fingers, w marinara sauce. It was an open face monstrosity and I loved it because I could take half of it home with me. My son ordered the kids menu hamburger. The waiter explained that this sandwich did not have lettuce and tomatoes, which I thought was nice of him to let us know. Since I was penny pinching, I said that was alright. The portion size on his plate was more than enough for a growing pre-teen. I ate the first half of my sandwich happily and it was more than enough. My friend ordered a salad with buffalo chicken fingers and a drink from the bar and she was so happy with her selection. Bonus: *Sports TVs had tennis, basketball, football, sport news and even a WNBA game on. Normally, you are stuck on one sport. *They have a lot of employees. They are employing a lot of people so service is fast and helpful. Support a Beverly business that is supporting Beverly people. I would recommend this spot as a great relax and chill place. Everyone was very nice and I enjoyed my night as a newbie very much.

They serve up a selection of signature pizzas or build your own pizza, salads, several flavors Richardson's Ice Cream & treats and cold drinks. The place is geared towards takeout with an inside counter/pickup area and covered outside takeout windows open during warmer weather. At the time of this posting in Feb 2026, they were open at 4pm to 9pm each day (winter hours). Recently, I decided to order a pizza from Salty's and placed an online order (Toast), which was quoted to be ready in 35 minutes after ordering. I was in the Merrimack Valley already and headed over to Essex. When I arrived, the place was very busy with folks picking up food for the big game. The staff in the open kitchen area were churning out pizzas. My pizza was boxed and ready to go. The Little Italy in Essex 14" Pizza ($17 plus tax) was topped with fresh mozzarella slices, ricotta, fresh chunky tomato sauce, basil leaves, minimal small pieces of fried eggplant. The thin crust was soft and chewy, slightly thicker edge crust. The pizza tasted just fine and fresh, but the toppings seemed uneven and no eggplant on a couple slices, probably because they were trying to get things done quickly with the influx of orders. Overall, the pizza tasted pretty good and would come back here when the weather warms up and I can try another pizza with some Richardson's Ice Cream on the same trip.
